Title: Forum policies/rules
Post by: level42 on February 08, 2010, 01:50:34 PM
IMHO this forum needs some rules so that is clear for everyone who registers what they are and that they agree with them.

May I suggest to use these rules (maybe adapted a bit here and there):

http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_message_rules.html

Esp. rule nr. 5 and rule nr. 10 appeal to me.

Rule nr. 1 is great too. It prevents a member to become called an Al-Qaida terrorist......

This would indeed be a good idea to get some rules, especially because this forum is growing pretty fast lately. When there are rules there is no confusion possible whether some subject CAN or CAN NOT be mentioned/written.

Andre, i agree with you that rules are important, but please permit me to say this without offence to anyone.

in my opinion, you and mav argued here first because of a poor choice of english from you both, i think you misread each others intentions and it causes you to argue.

please both of you consider this and kiss and make up :-* :-*

and im in no way criticising your language abilities, just as a native english speaker i understand the fine point of the language and can see where things may be mis-interpreted.

im sure mav will apologise for his al quaeda 'joke' and really understands that you just have an incredible passion for the arcade scene.  Don't you mav?

please take my advice andre and mav, i dont think two people so involved in the hobby need to argue, discuss yes, argue no.

@polaris: you are right, we all are involved in this hobby because of the fun of it, and we join forums because we want to share our fun, discuss stuff with each other, give your opinion about things, learn from each other, and sometimes also argue with each other as long as it is done politely. Arguments can be necessary to make one’s point. Webmaster shouldn’t be afraid of this to happen and that’s why a good set of forum rules is welcome. Every group of people needs them.

I would add rule number 14 though: Keep in mind that not everybody understands English as good as you do. Make the structure of your posts easy to read, it will help others to understand the message.

I have not attacked anybody

I just tried to explain to our friend level that he should calm down and see things from an another perspective

As you know the attack from Level 42 was directed against our chinese friend, not against me

and if you see the thread was between him and the chinese

I only tried to let "level" understand that a forum is a public place, where people has different ideas and most of all these idea must be explained politely and not imposed

Being always aware not to be at 100% correct or on the right side

nothing more, nothing less

But I think the main problem is not a word (that was just to let him figure out what he was appering - not to offend him - it is not my style), but the behaviour in which the whole situation degenerates everytime things ends (this time our new chinese friend) for someone not sharing his point of view

if he wants a 100% pure arcade collector site than should make one on his own,

it must be stated that on this particular subject I agree with level (I' m for the original hardware too 100% since my first day collecting)

but i don't condemn who doesn't (like bruno)

respecting others' ideas

"Live and let die"

You are completely missing the point Mav.

I did not attack anyone. The Chinese company put up a question with a link to the commercial site they have. In the banner of the site, there is a product that I did not like. I didn't like it because it looks ugly (opinion), has an LCD (I don't like that, opinion), has a 48in1 in it (I've got one, they're OK but still illegal) and uses a Galaga marquee(which I don't like either, another personal opinion).

I put up that image (the banner) and put another image of an emoticon that was puking. It expressed my feelings about that product. I did not ATTACK anybody. YOU always claim that I attack others, while in fact YOU keep attacking ME. YOU Keep telling me WHAT to do, I do NOT want that. I am a FREE person. I am NOT saying what YOU should do.

In fact, I've completely had it with a clown like you. You have contributed NOTHING of importance to this forum.

You keep babbling about being "civilized" while you do not even keep agreements with members here....talk about being civil HA !

The only thing I've seen that if somebody posted something that f.i. they would like to import a cab, or do something, you came up with a lengthy explanation about how much it will cost, and how impossible it will be. YOU always wrote that in a way as if YOU knew everything all the time, like you are fucking GOD !

I am completely sick of it, and have thus concluded to say farewell to this forum.

I liked this forum a lot, but I obviously have no place here, with a moderator that is protecting a Chinese bootleg company that fucking posted 5 posts since 3 days ago, against a member who has CONTRIBUTED over 1100 posts here, trying to help other people, contributing good stories etc. etc. AND TRYING TO FIGHT SPAM LIKE THAT CHINESE MANUFACTURER PUT UP HERE.

DO YOU HAVE A COMPLETE BLINDNESS ??!?!?@?@@?

I AM SICK OF IT. I'm gone.

O one more thing, here's a clip that I saved from one of Mav's earlier posts in our first "argument". This is from an e-mail I sent to Bruno before he deleted this from the forum:

Look what he wrote:

And by the way if you don't know I'm "quite" experienced on 1o1 (my passion for Japan did not started with videogames, if you don't know..

but anyway in case we meet someday i can even show you personally - few seconds make miracles in changing hot heads' behavours for good manners)

you don't scary me at all man

At least with your physic you just make me smile

Bruno, if you feel there is a place for this guy on your forum, I'm gone.....

Not only is he insulting me, judging me on my outer appearance, but also is he threatening me enough to sue him in my country....
I should have left then I guess... I knew it would surface again sooner or later.

Enjoy your troll !!

I did not ATTACK anybody. YOU always claim that I attack others,

Are you sure?

sunamusement felt attacked, telling you:

"I just want to express my think. If you don't like chinese products, It is ok, no body push you to buy them. that is very simple, you choose what you like. i don't understand why you make it complicated ??  This is becoming ridiculous!!!"

Is it enough clear to let you understand that your way of expressing ideas creates some problems?

while in fact YOU keep attacking ME.

No level, I just ask you since we are a community to respect other's opinions and point of view (if they like repro cabs or mame it is right they do it)

In fact, I've completely had it with a clown like you. You have contributed NOTHING of importance to this forum.

Are you sure?

why don't you ask to Finny, Any, James richardson, giddygoons,

I really think you don't much of what you talk about..

Anyway, I think you are too much of yourself to understand what i already wrote you: "we are all equal"

but you seems to claim more importance for you long term inscription than the people reckonize you

Anyway you talk about contributions:

Mhh... I'm very sad to see a such topic here  :-\

To make a long story short :

I'm not for or against Chinese arcade shops. I've just remove your post because it was out of topic. I've invited you to create a new post if you want to discuss about this. I use to give a nice Welcome to everyone who register here, and give a little more attention to the new members in the beginning... especially members from 'new' country like China... that's all  ;) Of course, with a shop link in the signature, I'm pay more attention about what's coming next, but in that case ... no spam or bad advertising so far. Just a simple question....

Come on guys, please spend you energy to the things you're so great in : helping people, great arcade stories, debate but still with the respect of all... and don't bring back old stories that was already discussed  :-\

btw, it's sad to see that a trusted member like andré who has contributed so much to this forum is being attacked that harsh because of some chinese dude who's done NOTHING but posting CRAP. this is absolute bull****!

hope you guys can somehow settle this and andré comes back.

@polaris, I didn’t mean you.  :)

OMFG, what the hell is going on here (I am allowed to say this as a non-believer, If someone takes offence of it, it's noted).

Guys, please relax and chill out

@André, you can’t leave the forum, you are much too valuable for it. Without you it would be much less interesting because I think that most of your input is very positive and really increases our knowledge. Besides, you are one of the most active users. I agree with you that you must have the right to express your feeling about something, even with puking emoticons. And if someone feels attacked by it, then it is because of that other person’s character, we can’t always consider that. Besides, you are from Rotterdam where people have a way of expressing their feelings, right to the point. Other people might be more cautious because they are afraid to step on toes (and very often make a mess out of it). Your way of reacting might not always be considered polite, but there is no way of confusion either. I like that.

@Maverick, no offence meant, but if one is out of line, it is you with your physical threat to André. I wasn’t on this forum yet when it happended, but André showed me a copy of that actual topic a few months ago, and believe me, what you said wasn’t polite at all. Besides, I don’t know you, and your contribution might seem impressive (at least one could think that you really know what you are talking about, and perhaps you do), but it’s my personal opinion that one hardly can call your input as being positive. You often spread your ‘wisdom’ as if it was the highest good, and you are full of warnings to all kind of people, warnings with a negative tone. Why can’t you be more positive? Oh, and please stop posting in lines, it makes your posts difficult to understand and it is foolish. Your argument that you do it for people with little knowledge of English is wrong: I never ever see it on any forum whatsoever, so please accept that you are mistaken about that. And to be honest, I often really don’t understand what you are saying, or what you mean.

Just noticed that you linked to a topic with your R-type photo’s. What can I say, they are crap, and André told you that with a joke, and he used the words ‘pictures are terrible’. Did he lie? No, he didn’t. But you reacted as if you were bitten by a snake. That was out of line.

@Bruno, please stop deleting replies much too easy. Don’t be afraid for a bit of arguments.

@Maverick, no offence meant,  Besides, I don’t know you, and your contribution might seem impressive (at least one could think that you really know what you are talking about, and perhaps you do)

I appreciate (even if I don't know you) your positive as negative comments,

I agree and may not disagree

but I always respect you and talk with you with manner

You are an another great example talking about my contributions

When for example you were thinking to import from USA games, you asked for help

and I helped you in every way (numbers, contacts, logistic, legal issues, all my experience at your service)

See here:

https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1092.60

but it’s my personal opinion that one hardly can call your input as being positive. You often spread your ‘wisdom’ as if it was the highest good, and you are full of warnings to all kind of people, warnings

Of course as I told you that day, as I appreciate much your tentative (because remind me the first days) as at the same time I try to avoid you the main problems I had to face as Jamma+ friends

Maybe, it can be seen as non positive out inputs

but it is realistic (as also on Jamma+ forum told you, are we all negative? don't think so)

but it is so because we know what means to be involved in a such big issue as arcade imports from USA (and believe me it is a headache as you'll understand the day you'll face for real the problems I had been to)

Never wanted to be negative (it is the opposite, also fully demonstrated - soon as asked by you - I sent you all my US contacts!)

Oh, and please stop posting in lines, it makes your posts difficult to understand and it is foolish. Your argument that you do it for people with little knowledge of English is wrong: I never ever see it on any forum whatsoever, so please accept that you are mistaken about that. And to be honest, I often really don’t understand what you are saying, or what you mean.)

Domenico (manusoft - a new member yesterday who posted for a DL cab was able to understand easily with the help of babelfish on altavista.it)

I know it can seems stupid this way (for you guys all saxon native countries I know it is very easy to speak and write english, but for most of us it is not an easy task),

but there are lot of italians arcade fans who love this site but for the idiom barrier they can not join it easily as you do

So little patience, makes the world bigger

Just noticed that you linked to a topic with your R-type photo’s. What can I say, they are crap, and André told you that with a joke, and he used the words ‘pictures are terrible’. Did he lie? No, he didn’t. But you reacted as if you were bitten by a snake. That was out of line.

Right, because I did not know him first,

Soon as managed his attitude I get used with it

great topic guys!  ;D Here are my two cents:  :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

the Chinese seller would be deleted in 1 hour on ANY given forum online anywhere. He was spamming in topics and made topics about his cabinets, which obviously are not the most wanted original cabinets everyone wants and likes here on this forum.

So, he is at the wrong address, and is just annoying the most of us, in the hope he makes some money out of his crappy cabinets.

And for the online controversy here: I didn't read all the posts, because some members give a lay out to their replies that just gives me a headache, so I just completely skip what they are saying, for my own well-being.

do

you

understand me??

So, let's just play on everyone. INSERT COIN

If i feel the urge of doing so, i will use PM to speak to that person.

i have only this in my mind,

sometimes, (AND I AM NOT MENTIONING ANY NAME !!!) the "click" on the "Post" or "Send" button can have the effect like a few liters / gallons of gasoline on a burning object.

I hope that the involved people can work things out, i would not like to see members leave.

My last post wasn't for your, but in general...

Not easy to administrate a board (I hate that!)   :-X :

If you say something -> It's a mess

If you say nothing -> It's a mess

Something crazy happens here..  :-\

I close this topic... and I'll applicate myself my best advise : using Private Message...

honestly, i don´t know what to say or think anymore, but from my point of view, Mav´s head is so far up Brunos ass that you can´t tell which ass belongs to whom!
Yes, it´s from another thread, but wtf!

Maybe someone who owns an US DL cab can confirm exactly

No problem boss,

Bruno asks, Mav acts!

Now, this happend before i joined the board, but if you (Bruno) have delt with it at that time, there would not have been a problem now!
and im speaking of this:

And by the way if you don't know I'm "quite" experienced on 1o1 (my passion for Japan did not started with videogames, if you don't know..

but anyway in case we meet someday i can even show you personally - few seconds make miracles in changing hot heads' behavours for good manners)

you don't scary me at all man

At least with your physic you just make me smile

But i don´t know how you to are acquainted, but it seems like theres no rules what so ever!!

Sorry for posting a text like this, but im just fed up with it and had to speak my mind! - so ban me.

Me too. It's a pity because I did have a very nice time here. But somehow I don’t feel comfortable at the forum lately.  :'(

I hope that maybe one day I will feel comfortable here again, but something has to change first (read Muerto's reply).

Bye.

What a mess here  :-\

One precision : I've no common point with Mav' !

PS : Mav', avoid to speak in my name

I'm for original hardware 100% too not for roms, so what are we talking about?
Me and bruno just tried told him to calm down, trying to let him understand that it is just a passion and to take it easy to avoid flames

Bruno are you aware of what it says?
I have to add my voice here and say i'm really not impressed!!!!

I also had to read it multiple times before I actually got what he was saying.

So to summarise, if they ever meet he's gonna kick the shite out Andre..... nice.....

Exactly that is what he meant.

Mmm, maybe the native English people understand the message worse then the one's who are not native English.  ;D

And with Smile he meant Laugh.

But I'm putting this behind me. Bruno took action and I'm back for a last chance. I still do hope Bruno will consider my initial suggestion of putting up some rules here, it is in the benefit for all of us.

Thanks everyone for their support.

Yes, putting some basic rules will be useful in such case, even if they won't be necessary in 99.9%, because we are mostly gentleman here ;)
I'll work on that asap!  8)
