Yeahhhh! A new story 'Scratch Built' by Scr33n :-* This gonna be a 'kick ass' topic, as always :)
are you going to paint the artwork with stencils ?
Yes :? :ghost: ... I'll use stencils from Thisoldgame ...
   Sorry Bruno this time I need again your help
No problem Scr33n, I'll try to do it this coming week (I'm out of time this period  )
For information, the Burger cab' shape is not so far than a Pac cab', see
Yes I know  (Galaga - MsPac - Pacman - Burgertime) are very similar but there are small differences in measures ...

OK, but just in order to be accurate on this, here's the real twincab' 8) :
PAC MAN / GALAXIAN : 100% same cabinet shape
GALAGA / MS PAC MAN : 100% same cabinet shape
;)
40€ almost new :-*

Honestly, I'd much rather stock up on true arcade monitors.
Honestly, I'd much rather stock up on true arcade monitors.
agreed! but more difficult to find ...
Scr33n: congatulation for the choice of the scratch built replica cab: a must!!!
And awesom job maded on the Tempest cab ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
regarding the cab dimensions / shape: wouldn't it be easiest (for you ;)) if bruno put his cab on the side and traced the shape of it on a huge piece of paper?
sorry bruno for suggesting that ... ;D
Another package (from Thisoldgame - CPO - Kickarts and Stencils) and I'll be a happy man
what about the bezel?
When Asteroids is finished i think i will build a Pac Man or Burgertime, love to play Super Burgertime :wink:Yes yes another from scratch builder :spaceace: :spaceace:
oki, Wiki knows ;D
now i think he need you to measure the distance from the cab to the 1st screw...
How are the sides comming?? - cant wait to see those cut! :spaceace:
you should build something even more complicated the next time, like an R-360 or an afterburner cockpit ;)
looks like youre ready to put it together ;D
Go screen !
Looking great !
No no I don't like this kind of game (just kidding ;)) - maybe it will be a game with trackball...
Centipede..... Because many members on this forum got one!
wish you good luck for painting
Very nice, i will start to collect original parts too for next Project :spaceace:
looks like youre ready to put it together ;D
Go screen !
finally ;)
let me guess: this is going to become BURGERTIME? ;)
just noticed, there´s a pac-man on both the cab sides, is there a reason?
are you going to sand the edges before you do the trench for the t-mold?
it almost looks like you did this before ;D  ;DWait until the stencils then it's back to being novice again
yezzz, put some clothes on that naked lady :-[
Probably missed the post, but is it an original btime board or an advancemame PC config ?

if i were you, i wouldn't go with those measures, because they vary from cab to cab. remember, back in the days those cabinets were put together quickly to get them out into the arcades as soon as possible, so it didn't matter whether the sideart was put on perfectly. from my (minimal) stencilling experience, the stencils should be applied so that they look perfect and NOT to match the original. both my pac and my joust stencils as well as my centipede sideart are a couple of centimeters off from which their original position - and it looks much better!
i'd position the stencils so that they are in equidistance to the hat! but that's just my two cents 8)
Sorry Bruno another request (the last one :P :-*) - please, can you take these 3 measures - kickarts and sidearts position:
(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2673/sideartposition.jpg) (http://img215.imageshack.us/i/sideartposition.jpg/)
thanks !!! :-* :-* :-*
Sorry for the noob woodworker question :
There's no need to sand after the primer ?
Would it not be better to use a darker primer paint where you are going to overpaint in a dark colour?
I don't think this need 5 rounds of paint :D
yes i suppose there are light and dark bits on this cab, and 1 primer is easier than 2.Would it not be better to use a darker primer paint where you are going to overpaint in a dark colour?
Maybe a grey primer, but this is not the case ;)
if you can take a pic of the paint codes if you have them on the tin and post it if you are ok with me using the information. :-*
looking good scr33n !
i bet you use a fiber roller, and not the "sponge" variant right ?
No Etienne I use sponge rollers and they work perfectly :-*
if it's ok with you i will copy the photo over to my thread on BYOAC?

:spaceace:
this is the trickiest part - good luck!!!
are you going to roll on the paint?
Hey screen, when you've done those cabs (and when you've found more space for your game room) :yep the thing he needs now are either a trackball game or a steering wheel game (mame'ed with pole position, out run a.s.o). But let him finish of this first ;)
-Marble Madness
-Out Run

The only problem I see with this picture is that he has not covered the floor. Find a corner in your apartment and cover the floor and walls...
i didn't cover the floor because the paint i used came out almost dry and it wasn't too difficult to clean up later. however, i'm still finding residues of that blue paint in room faaaaar away and on objects way out of sight, that's why i haven't had the energy to do the red ;)You also have seal of the back with plastic. ;D the floor, the walls, the sealing and the back. Create a small room covered with plastic. And the cabinet have to stand on something that lift it up from the floor. The paint on the floor gonna be a mess. When you are finish painting for one day it is nice if the sealed of plastic room has a window (fresh air) behind one of the walls.
I should use synthetic-based paints, very difficult to find in cans.
Spray painter or foam rollers? This is the question ???
hmmm, difficult choice you have to make. i haven't had the best experience with those spray painters on my Joust 2.
Do you have the option of painting outside?
how thick is your white color?
Are you planning on evening out the edges with steel wool or something?
nice work! - what´s with the PAC MAN´s???
the edges are very smooth :-* :-* :-* fortunately
so you're saying you can't see / feel that there is a second layer of paint? it evens out with the background?
Yes ! Yes ! Yes ! :-* :-* :-*Bruno, doesn't make you feel a growing desire to do the same on your own cab? ;D
Yes ! Yes ! Yes ! :-* :-* :-*Bruno, doesn't make you feel a growing desire to do the same on your own cab? ;D
Next coat !!! Next coat !!!!! Next coat !!! Next coat !!!!!
;)
Aaaaarrrgggghhhh Pull it off scr33n , we can't wait !
looking nice so far !
How cool would it be to run an original PCB in this cab ? ;)
that is incredible - and all that in your living room! congratulation on another outstanding scratch-built, stencils with a roller obviously work. although i have to admit, the quality of that stencil material seemed to be outstanding as well.
a couple of questions:
- which games are you running on your burgertime now?
- how many more games can you squeeze into your gameroom?
- and - of course - the obvious question: what's next? i'm missing a driving game, q*bert would be a blast or what about berzerk / frenzy now that the repro control panels are almost done?
Regarding the T-molding, on most cabinet pictures I've seen (including my Burger Time cab'), it looks more 'orange/yellow' than red.
The flyer shows a red T-molding, so I presume most of the original 'red' T-molding are now faded...
- only Burgertime (midway version) :-*
- next cab ??? ??? Centipede or Defender (depends If I can find all the pieces) ...
why not running "peter pepper's icecream factory" as well?
Wow that may very well be a better job than I did on mine ;D
awesome work
I'm waiting the video now :-*
Fantastic video, I like your music! ;D ;)
can't watch the video because of copyright issues regarding the music. it's not available anymore for me :(
Fantastic video, I like your music! ;D ;)
I like :), please do a car game with gas pedal, brake pedal and steering wheel next....
eh... wait a sec... where are the picture with all your 'Scratch Built Replica' cabinets, close together ::) :P ;D
:spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
- next cab ??? ??? Centipede or Defender (depends If I can find all the pieces) ...
how did you get the slit into the panels to fit the orange trim
