Title: Road Trip - After Burner II

At last I could pick up the After Burner II upright which I bought mid december. The winter weather forced me to cancel the trip 3 times,  >:(  but today everything went OK.

The trip was not so exciting as for instance the Belgian Warehouse road trip, but I know that you like pictures and stories, so here it is.

Statistics:
Date: 17 January 2010
Author: ckong
Target: After Burner II ( http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6822 )
Trip: it all happened in The Netherlands.
Total length: 502 kilometers and 7 hours.

I left at 11.00 AM with a view on this sad weather, and fresh fallen snow!!  :

The temperature was +2 Celcius, and after a few minutes it started to rain.  :(

Halfway and still no weather improvement and a lot of places on the high way with frost damage:

I entered the town where the seller lives and there was a glimpse of sun shine. This has to be a sign.

Finally, after a little over two hours driving I arrived at the sellers house. We went to the garage where he had the game. His son was playing it, so I easily could check the working condition. Everything seems to work, red top lights, the lock on light, the fly stick rumble (man, what a loud noice), and the game itself. I noticed that the monitor had a bit of screen burn, also visible when playing the game. Cosmetically the cab was also in pretty good condition, there were the obvious marks and scratches on the sidepanels, and in the past little punks have scratched names etc. in the plastic of the control panel and on the monitor perspex. Not too noticeable though. The most noticeable are the two missing stickers on the frontside. Oh, and I sure didn’t pay the price on the price tag, it was much less.  ;D

I talked a bit more with the seller. He actually is more into pinball machines. He buys them, repairs them and sells them again. He had a very nice Star Wars pinball in his living room, and in his garage there was a Jurassic Park and a Judge Dredd. He also offered me an arcade game which is stored at a friends’ place, a two seater Indy 500. But I don’t have the space for that game, and I don’t dig it really very much. Then I played After Burner II myself a few minutes (lousy score), and soon after that we loaded the cab in my car. It was a good fit.

I didn’t went home right away because, unfortunately, I ran out of space at home to store more cabs. This game room of mine has to be built quickly now!! Because of a small home renovation going on at our place I rented a temporary storage a few months ago. Last week I went there, reorganized (I mean, threw everything on top of each other  :D ) the stuff already stored and managed to create free space for a few more cabs. And that’s where After Burner will stay for a few months. Oh, I also did have a nice warm meal at McDonalds Venray.

At the storage I managed to unload the cab on my own, but it took me almost a quarter to just get it halfway out of my car. Man, this thing sure is a very heavy beast.

To end this story I will show some more photo’s of the cab:

And the internals. As you will see the seller did ad a 220V-110V transformer to the cab, so I can just plug the power  plug in a 220V wall socket (it’s a US cab). I also got a few spare 110V light bulbs from him and the original owner’s manual.

After storing the cab I went home, where I arrived at 6 PM. Here is the route:

As I said earlier, this cab is technically very sound, and cosmetically pretty nice. Still I will do a bit of work on it:
-   Probably exchange the monitor for one with no or little screen burn,
-   Apply new T-molding all the way
-   Try to get and add new stickers on the front side. Does someone know where I could get replacement stickers?
-   Will do a bit of spot painting on some black painted parts
-   Will clean the cab and let it shine with car dashboard cleaner. This will make the black paint look like new.

That’s it.

I will post pics as soon as the drawings are definitive. Size of the shed is somewhere between 48 and 60 square meter. Depends on costs and licenses of local authorities.

I think you can built up to 50% of the total surface of you garden in NL.

In your case a couple of square miles. ;-)

Nice catch Erik! Love to see the plans for the gameroom.

Nice catch! Hey... at least an After Burner II upright without side art damage... red top lights and the "lock on light" working  :P congratulation! After Burner is a real must have game  :)

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the track
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the Danger Zone
I'll take you
Right into the Danger Zone

You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the Danger Zone
Gonna take you
Right into the Danger Zone

 ;D

No-no-no, the ultimate goal is becoming the next owner of Fun Spot  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Erik, why didn't you drive through Germany ? Looks shorter and it's sure faster ;)
Oh, and it's about time you get your tyres on the right pressure because I see that light on on _all_ your roadtrip pics  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nice catch. Not one of the games I'd remove another cab from my little gameroom for, but it's sure fun !

Isn't there a way to simply switch it from 110V to 230 V ?

Oh and I don't hope your City Box will be like this one in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago.....:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euN0HjFco3A

(See the office building on the right at 0:20 ? I've commissioned the fire and evacuation alarm in that building, and it was used to get everyone out of the building because of the smoke.....)

Whatever you do, DON'T put your SW there ;)

Oh and quite incidentally, this place is quite close to where I found my SW cockpit (Amsterdam-North, harbor area).

That's why it is so much fun to make these road trip reports, because of all the beautiful banners which Bruno produces. Very nice and thanks

Germany may be a bit shorter, but it will take a lot longer, believe me. That warning light is lit because of a computer malfunction,  :-[ the pressure on the tire is OK.

I read the article of the burnt down citybox a few weeks ago, a real horror story. Can't imagine how it would feel to loose my console collection and candy cabs which I have stored in there. I sure will not store the Star Wars cockpit in it. Although, it can happen at home also.
