Muerto started a nice topic of best cab finds in 2009. But I'm sure a lot of us still have a few (or a lot of) cabs on their wish list.
The following games are high on my list (I will max it to 10 :) ):
Star Wars cockpit
Galaga
Qbert
Qix
Robotron
Disc of Tron
Gravitar
Marble Madness
Defender
Tempest
What about your list?
-
I'll keep it small :)
- Operation Wolf
- Guerrilla War
...and a Sega Aero City candy cabinet to fit my trackball panel in, so I can finally play SegaSonic 8)
-
my list is long, but it starts with this:
A GIGANTIC GAME ROOM :)
gamewise, my top most-wanted cabs are:
- moon patrol
- pong
- tempest
- galaga
- q*bert
and many many more. i'll let myself be surprised by what pops up in 2010!!!
-

Ghost´s n Goblins and Ghouls n Ghosts in this cab: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7938 (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7938)
Tetris in the same cab as i got the BB and RI in (Moon Patrol cab)
but there´s always:
Tempest
PC10
SW Cockpit
EDOT :o
and as ully said, let´s see what surfaces...

Also I want to buy a Ketsui pcb I love this game :)

Why a egret ii while you can get a beautiful Sega Blast City from rene'?
it is cosmetically better and the monitor works with all the frequencies (15,24,31 Kz) and rotates easily
a Must have if looking for a Jap candy and shoot'em ups
Mav
and maybe another scratch built replica ..... Burgertime :-*
Let me guess who will work for all the measures.. ::)

Great choice, great monitor and monitor chassis, rotating mechanism (unlike other cabs), nice looks.
I have one for my cave games. But I recently bought also this one:
http://www.rklok.nl/pics/Cabinets/Pony1.jpg
I know that most of you think that it's ugly as hell, but it's great for vertical (or horizontal) SHMUP's. It houses a perfect 25" monitor, with a raisersharp and crisp picture.
It's funny, before I came to this forum, I was, and still am, pretty involved in candy cabs. I now have two NAC's, 1x E2, 1x E3 and the Jaleco. I plan to build a gameroom in 2010 with a Japanese section (cabs and wall art) and with a classic arcade section with my dedicated cabs. 'East meets West' so to speak.
-
I know that most of you think that it's ugly as hell
no offence, but i totally agree with "the most of us" ;D
Candies just don't do it for me.
again, no offence
-
I would love to have a candy too for them shmup pcb's ;D
They are the perfect cabs for those long shmup sessions :)

Not taken, at all :) It's just a matter of taste. Fortunately I like both worlds, although, if I should have to make a choice (forced by the one I love), the candy cabs would go.
-
- restoring the Pac Man cab
- get a (Japanese) cocktail cab
- refurbing all 3 New Astro City's
- refurbing the Aero City
- picking up a pachislo
- getting some more Cave games
- getting a 1L6B panel for 1 NAS (what else you gonna play them on ;-) for those long shmup sessions
- doing all this without people around me noticing how much time sinks into that
- actually playing some more than the last few months.
Nice thread this is, and love that Jaleco cab ..... but then again, candy does it for me ...... also no offence ofcourse.
-
Would love one of those Capcom or NeoGeo mini's for my son.
But I know what they cost ! :)
BTW ElPancho, is that your PacMan for sale on Marktplaats ?
-
Nope, that one isn't mine.
Looks like I'm keeping that cab. One ring classic woody to rule them all.
-
- restoring the Pac Man cab
That's good to hear. Do you want to bring it back in it's original state, including wiring, monitor, side art, etc?
But wouldn't it be nice if DK and Pac Man get reunited again? ;) :) No, just kidding, you should keep Pac Man, I know you love it. Does it work at the moment by the way?
-
It hasn't been fired up in 18 months or so, but I'm pretty confident that it will.
I know the pcb died on the previous owner, so he jammatized it in order to fit in an 300in1 or so pacman gamebox.
Thank god he did a tidy and pro-job.
I haven't decided yet .... leave it jamma and enjoy the flexability off that (even if it means wiring shot 1 to player 1 start) or go the hardcore dedicated way..... source an original Pac Man pcb.
Then maybe sending the monitor (which is the original one) to an expert for a capkit and sourcing a good replacement tv.
If I can get that done in 2010 that would be nice. Cosmetics later on ..... will refurb the candies first.

Love to see that materialize btw, I'm there should you want to do a 'grand opening'.
'East meets West' ..... you can't go wrong with this philosophy imho, just don't mix it up, that would be too wierd .....
-

I agree, no mixup, but two separate area's or rooms, don't know yet exactly.
And of course you're invited, as everyone here and on nozomi.
-
The ultimate would be the Dragon's Lair
BUT, I want to build a cab and put multiple games in it. Just to say I did it hehe. So..just being stupid here.. what do you guys mean by candy cabs?

like you sayd before, just a matter of taste ;D

Well, it's true they can't compete with a dedicated cab with dedicated artwork etc... It's a totally different style after all. But when comparing generic cabs (candy/woody) I prefer candies for their big beautiful screens and excellent controls ;D
...and playing Deathsmiles on a woody with a Suzo or Happ stick just wouldn't be right :-X
-
I think the candies are quite nice, especially when you want to play more modern games, may I ask what you paid for one?

Indeed, those cabs are great for modern SHMUPS and modern fighting games. I bought 16 of them during the insert coin '09 event and sold 14 again. Sales prices differed from € 570 to € 780 (Blast City) or so, I believe.
-
Ah, that's still quite expensive. I’ll be visiting Japan in 4 months, so I’ll get more than enough chance to check them out and decide if I’m ever going to buy one. Which fighters do you play on them?
-
Well, I don't have really a wish list (and no room too !), but if I can find a shmup/plateform game that I have enjoyed back in the days, maybe ::).
-
Which fighters do you play on them?
No fighters, I'm a fan of shmup's, classic and modern.
-
More classics for me in no particular order -
Asteroids
Tron
Space Invaders Part II
Astro Blaster
Galaga
Dig Dug
Gyruss
That's all I can think of for now ;)
However, I really should get started on my Defender project... :D

What game ?
Anyway, I can't think of a shmup that wouldn't benefit from a Suzo joystick, I hate those Jap controls, sticks _and_ buttons. The joys have MILES of travel and feel sloppy. The buttons....well the buttons......, candy indeed ! :D
I do see the candies as a practical platform for those later games though. I would never want to run any early arcade games on a huge monitor like that (because it looks bad) but the higher res games are much more at their place on machines like that.
Although candies provoke zero emotion with me, this is something you don't do to one of them:
It's a disgrace for Ms.Pac Man mostly, but it even hurts the candy machine.

Not quite true. If you want to play a frantic SHMUP you need a joystick which is light, travels light, travels short and is precise. And if you choose the right model japanese stick (both Sanwa and Seimitsu have perfect sticks with short travel), it will beat a Suzo stick any time. Suzo plays just too heavy for modern SHMUP's. And it is a monstrosity on a candy cab of course
Here is a link with some nice pics of a candy gameroom setup: http://forum.nozomi.nl/viewtopic.php?t=2327&start=25
On the last picture: the cab on the left is a Sega Blast City. Goatboy bought it from me (part of insert coin group buy) but I regret having it sold. It's a wonderful tri-sync candy cab.
-
My 12 month old daughter loves playing Mushihimesama on my Sega Astro City cab :)

There are companies who still make arcade games today. I know, it's weird but true ;)

I have to agree with ckong on this, Seimitsu & Sanwa are top notch brands for playing fighters and (modern) shmups.
Regarding that picture, that's like putting Street Fighter art on a Galaga or Donkey Kong cab... :-X Nobody that loves classic cabs and/or candy cabs will like that hideous thing.
-
However, I really should get started on my Defender project... :D
restoration?
'fraid so. It's a restoration of HUGE proportions! This baby has been abused :(
-
i would really like to get a dig dug too.... well, watta you know!
-
Great photo Joeks !
I find it harder to play Cave with Sanwa sticks I prefer Seimitsu LS-32 for serious serial cab shooting.
-
OK.. more questions.. Whats a shmups? sounds like an insult you give to someone who doesn't work and lives off his mom LOL

 ;D
shmup = shoot 'em up
Examples of some shmups are: Galaga, 1942, 1943, Fantasy Zone, Gradius, Salamander, TwinBee, Darius, Cotton, Truxton, Border Down, Under Defeat, Gunbird, Strikers 1945, Dragon Blaze, DoDonPachi, Deathsmiles, Ketsui,....
This list could go on forever, I chose some random old and 'new' titles to give some examples.
-
I'm a SHMUP then LOL
