Post by: DarthNuno on December 11, 2009, 09:11:01 PM
(http://www.arcadelifestyle.net/news/burgertime.jpg)

Friday, the 28th of August 2009. Tomorrow will be a very special day... I'll do a new road trip for a very special game.

Ok, let's check my camera, I would like to prepare some pre-road trip pictures with my latest t-shirt   ::) :P

...but ... what happens with my camera  :o ???

Jesus! My beloved CANON IXUS v3   the one I'm using since maybe 8 years for everything (road trip, restoration, holidays, ...EVERYTHING!)

is ... dead???  :o :'(

Arghh! It's now too late for buying a new one   Impossible to do a road trip without taking any picture! And especially for this one! ...OK... I'll have to use my mobile phone, a Siemens sgh-f480 that includes a 5M pixels camera. It's better than nothing  :-\

Saturday, the 29th of August 2009.... This is it! The D day  :P

Very early in the morning... a last check before departure : Dr Pepper? Check! Namco music CD? Check! Pac Man hooded pullover? Check! Food? .... Food? ... no food? OK we will have to buy something for the breakfast on the road!

For my road trip stats'

Once more... we're going to U.K. ...for the fourteenth time!  8)  :P

6:09AM ... Ignition!  8)

After approx. one hour of driving, first stop for buying our breakfast... in this AC Restaurant

Usual stuff  :D

...approx two hours later... arriving at the French border...

Since my first UK road trip... now, for this UK #14... I can tell you I know perfectly the road  ;D 8) ...

Do not be afraid regarding the channel tunnel ... just pick up your date via the website, select an hour, pay with your credit card, and try to be here on time. Don't worry, if you're here (at Calais) too early... or too late, you can use an other shuttle... without paying extra if you are less than two hours before or after the hour you got during your reservation. From my experience on this, I NEVER have to pay an extra... and sometime I was very l8te regarding my reservation time  ;)

Here, we put the credit card I've used for the reservation...Greetings Professor Falken, Shall We Play a Game?  ;D

OK... entering le Shuttle... we are in France...

Less than one hour later... exiting le Shuttle... we are in UK ... The road of the 'Lords'  8) ;) M20 !!  :-*

My navigation car system says : "One hour to go before your final destination". Usually, we eat AFTER picking the game, but this time... let's eat BEFORE...  :P ... Hey ... This is a road trip about an hamburgers isn't it?  ::) :P So this is THE road trip for such pictures

Darth Nunette : "Burger King? Not again?"

...but ... but ... This is THE Burger road trip! Come on  ;) ::) :P

How to resist to Burger King ::) ARGHHHH  ;D

This is ... a tasty Burger!  :-*

Listen Nunette... Since 1954...

...

...

Yes? ... and? ...what are you looking???

 :ghost:  ;D

Mhhh.... ok, let's go back to the story  ;)

Driving in UK is still a little bit dangerous... keeping the left... something it can be frightening

For some reasons... I'm now thinking about the game SPEEDWAY...

... and I don't know why ::) :P  :arrow:

We talk about the arcade scene... the difficulty to maintain these games alive... and many others things... I played some games too  :P ....but ... I'm a little bit sad for Rav' ... I know how he likes its games, such this BT, but now he's moving on something else...

Ok, let's load Mr Pepper :

Hey? WHat's this ... definitively not a DeLorean... but maybe a real time machine?  ::)

I'm very exited... I'm bringing back a BurgerTime  :-* ...but I still have to be careful ... Ok Nunette... Keep left... no problem  ;D

Each time I'm in UK... I try to bring back some local drinks & foods  ;D

Still in UK... but not for long... here's the last exit...

Ops... we've missed the shuttle. So we have to wait maybe 25 minutes... So we have some time to watch around... hey! rabbits here ;D

...Pepper has been 'Dr Peppered' by Darth Nuno  ;D

Ok, le Shuttle is ready... let's go in...

During the 'under channel' travel : I'm sleeping ... close to my ...  ::) :P :-*  ;D ;D ;D  :arrow:

During this road trip, a very special moment... see the counter ... what'll happen??? Back to zero  ::) ::) ::) ?

No!  ;D It's a modern car  ;D ;D ;D

wonderful job on that roadtrip report, bruno! and of course a huge CONGRATS for that burgertime game. the cabinet is one of the most beautiful arcade cabinets out there and it's nice to see a wish list completed. once again: congratulations! hope the game is working and you have fun playing it.

Nice little trip there

I gotta say, living in America, I can't even imagine driving your car "into" a train to go somewhere.  I would much rather just drive there HAHA.  Guess that is a piece of culture shock for me.  When I saw them do it on Top Gear I thought it was just for fun !

driving on to the train in a double decker bus is stranger, you would never think it would fit

The train connects the UK to mainland Europe via a tunnel. If you want to take your car to the UK (or the other way around), you either take a ferry (the good old way) or that train. There is no way to drive there directly. Because of the extreme length of the tunnel (over 50 km) that would be way too dangerous.
There are also hi-speed "normal" passenger trains using the tunnel.

Here's all info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_Tunnel

I've been to the UK a zillion times and I've travelled by ferry, by jetfoil and even hovercraft (last two are out of service since about 10 years), but never by the Eurotunnel train yet.

It seems to be the cheapest way when you do a two day (or one day) round-trip.

There are other (regular) car-trains in Europe though. You can use them to go on holiday from f.i. The Netherlands to France etc. but I would say that it's a very marginal number of people who use it. (http://www.seat61.com/Motorail.htm)
In Switzerland there are mandatory car-trains to cross the mountains. This is done to keep environmental pollution in the Alps in control.

REALLY? i've only checked it once when i wanted to go to england last year, but it was way more expensive than ferries ...

@bruno: what's the average fare you pay for a roundtrip? you seem to have some kind of experience  ;)

Title: Re: :: UK Road Trip #14 :: BURGERTIME ...it's time!!!
Post by: petieken on January 07, 2010, 05:38:55 PM
I don't know if this is still true, but last time I went to the UK by ferry (~7 years ago...) there was still an arcade room on the boat 8). I can't remember I was bored there ;D.
Don't know about the prices, but the train is more recommended (timewise) if you want to do a round-trip in 2 days.

@bruno: what's the average fare you pay for a roundtrip? you seem to have some kind of experience  ;)

Mhhh... just an example, I would say ;

EuroTunnel : 70 - 80  (for a car and without trailer... just double the price if you have a trailer)
Fuel : you can calculate ... but my average distance is ofter 1000km... Hopefully my car doesn't need a lot of fuel, and fuel is cheap in Luxembourg  :P
If you go further than London, you probably will pass the Dartford Tunnel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartford_Crossing)... and so, you'll have to pay 1 or 2 each time ... cheap
ArcadeLifeStyle things : Burger King, Dr Peppers, chips... any food... up to you  ;D

So as you can see, it's not too expensive... but it may be a far trip for some of you, and also a little bit dangerous, because driving on the left side of the road may be a little bit 'disturbing'... you'll have to be focus !  ;) Hopefully my wife keep an eye on the road all the time and she never stops to say me : be careful about this... pay attention to that ... blablabla...  ::) :P ;D

Roadtripin' is priceless  8) 8) 8) ...but most of you already know that  ;D

EuroTunnel : 70 - 80  (for a car and without trailer... just double the price if you have a trailer)

less than 100 euros for a roundtrip? that's cheap!!!

is that a special offer you have to book online or can you just drive up there and "hop on board"?

Paying at "the port" is almost always more expensive. The ticket is also pretty flexible, if you are earlier or later it doesn't really matter much...

Actually looks like the ferries are at least as cheap for 2 day round-trips:

It's the normal price, and you have to book online, just to be sure about the train availability regarding your schedule.
I think you can also drive up without reservation, but you take the risk to wait a moment there...

Here's a picture for Scr33n

...it's the original glass bezel on this cabinet. As you can see, the colors are completely washed... and it's even worst in real: for some reason, my camera seems to add more color, but I can tell you all the colors look so 'white'  :-\ I'm afraid this bezel will be useless for you.

For this cabinet, I'll use the NOS bezel I have  ;)

For information, I still did not powered the game...
