Last Sunday, I went back to FunWorld to see if Galaxian 3 was working, but it was not. :(
However, I asked someone if they could turn it on, and they did! ;D
As for the condition, it was the same, with the same sound issues present unfortunately (no music for most of the game and less voices), but player 5 accepted tokens. After 2 hours, the left laserdisc starting glitching again, like in FramedNiner's video, so it's probably an issue with the v-mix board that DarthNuno brought up. Hopefully they can fix it... :-\ but the game is still fun nevertheless ;)
-
Thanks for your feedback. It's really great that Funworld has persevered in repairing this game and that, despite the difficulties, they continue to want to keep it running. :spaceace:
You're absolutely right to make the most of it while you can, despite the technical issues. :)
-
As of now, the game is powered off. Investigation is being done into a solid state solution to the LaserDisc problem.
-
So it turns out that if you ask the technician there, he can turn the theater on for an hour. The reason it's not always on is because of a fault that develops on the left side, presumably due to a failing laserdisc player. The sound is screwed up too. However, the game is still enjoyable in it's entirety, and efforts are being made to fix the issue.
-
Thanks for the update. It's a good way to do things even if it runs into a small issue after an hour, it's really nice to launch the game anyway for those who want to. :spaceace:

As of right now, the left laserdisc player is totally dead. I was told that there are plans to replace it.
-
From a medium to long-term perspective, the most viable solution for them is to deploy a system such as a PC or Raspberry Pi capable of emulating laserdisc. Original laserdiscs players are not only increasingly scarce, but their mechanical complexity and aging components make them exceptionally difficult to service or restore nowadays. :-\
-
I mean, with the recent (and still ongoing) emulation of MegaLD games through Ares, it should probably open some doors for that possibility to become reality. Domesday Duplicator and LD-Decode really have done wonders.

Here's a post I made documenting the condition of the Galaxian 3 at Fun World as of September 20th, 2025:

This post explains its exact condition, as well as other updates regarding the cabinet.

Here's a Let's Play video of the Galaxian 3 made by me :) :

Not to mention, this the only recorded "Mission Completed" Attack of the Zolgear game outside of Japan. ;)
For some reason, the enemies felt WAY harder in the latter half of this playthrough, maybe because I won multiple times before. ::)
Perhaps there is an automatic skill adjuster programmed in the game during game play? Would you know this DarthNuno? ???
Video footage recorded October 5th, 2025.

Thanks for this footage. It's important to preserve records of this game in action.
I should dig through my old hard drives, I remember recording a lot of Zolgear sessions too, since that was the mission installed on my Galaxian Theater when I got it.
But I have to admit I quickly switched to Project Dragoon, as that mission left the strongest impression on me.

I don't remember any adaptive difficulty.

According to Fun World's Facebook, the Laserdisc player was sucessfully replaced today. Full functionality has apparrently been restored. I will report back when I have verified this.
-
Thanks to you for keeping a regular status update on the availability of it! :spaceace:
Honestly, the locals should take advantage of it : running a LD game, and in this case two laserdisc players, is nothing short of a miracle!
-
I can confirm that the game IS infact repaired, and all laserdisc video, sound, and music now works! ;D ;D

As of January 31st, 2026 (when I last played), the front speakers are now almost impossible to hear. After discussing this with one of the volunteer techs, he said it is most likely an amplifier issue. Here's to hoping it gets fixed! ;D
-
As of March 18th, 2026, the sound issues still remain. I'm unsure when Phil and the rest of the volunteer techs are returning, but after talking to one of them recently they stated they would relay this info to the others volunteer, so there IS progress being made ;D
Also, here is a video I uploaded showing said issues with the game (no music, etc): https://youtu.be/u8hhREjxCeo?si=g1QJM7IndGzCBuq5 (https://youtu.be/u8hhREjxCeo?si=g1QJM7IndGzCBuq5)

Thank you for the update.
It would be highly valuable to establish direct communication with the Japanese team and review their emulation approach for the laserdisc, as this remains the most critical and sensitive component of Galaxian Theater... :?
-
As of March 28th, 2026, gunner 6 no longer aims horizontally. I am not sure if this issue, or any other issues with the game have since been fixed, but this is most likely not the case. New updates will come soon if anything changes!

The gunner 6 is rarely used… especially in 2026 :pac: . On my Galaxian Theater, I had installed the flight yoke that was in the worst condition in the position 6… and anyway, that was the spot usually taken by the weaker players or the casuals. ;D
But well, for a public operation like theirs, it’s still better if everything works properly of course. :-\
