Title: Setup of a test bench for monitor testing
Post by: ckong on July 29, 2014, 10:38:13 PM
I need to test some monitors that I have around here, all of them are tubes with Hantarex chassis. So I want to setup a testbench. I don't want to use osciloscopen or other complicated testing material, I just want to connect a jamma game pcb to the monitor, through a jamma connector. That I can do. But what kind of power supply will I need for these Hanarex chassis? The game pcb can do just fine with a simple power switching supply, but the monitors will need an isolation transformer. I guess.

can someone give a short breakdown of such a setup and possibly a link where I can get those transformers suitable for connecting a Hantarex chassis? and Where are connectors for these chassis availabe, if any?

The 900, 9000 and 9110 need 135V which are usually generated by a Hantarex psu (US 250 or US 300). There also exist some heavy Hantarex transformers which were used in the Jumbo Quadro cabinets. Both the psu and the transformer blocks pop up from time to time on ebay. A friend of mine once told me the chassis also run on 110V, so maybe just a 220 to 110 stepdown converter is needed.

Don't know bout the 900 but the 9000 and 9110 don't need isolation transformers.

I've never traced the (green) connectors for sale anywhere, but if you need one or two I can look for you into my "Grabbelkiste":D for the cost of the shipping.

You'll need 220VAC for the degauss and 128VAC isolated for the main power on a 900 or 900E. The manual states that the minimum is 107VAC so 110VAC may work. The original connectors are long since gone. This place used to carry them: http://www.swallowam.co.uk/ but I don't know if they still do...

I have an extra powerbrick from a zacc here that i used for such a thing.

its the same way its working in the real cabinet  8)

So looking at blanbek's pic, this could help, as it looks like a oldstyle zacc PS

Note that old style Zac bricks come in two flavours - one for the Philips KT-3 and one for the MTC-900 series - that have different voltages.

CEC 084 - Philips
CEC 086 & CEC 109 - Hantarex

But the 110v should still come from an isolation transformer?

YES !

Hook it up to any of your step-down converters and enjoy watching the smoke......
