The movie is huge, the game is huge, the cabinet is awesome! It's time for me to start a project I have in mind since I've seen the movie... a gift for my daughter but also for me ... a dedicated Fix It Felix Jr cabinet! :)
So following that story, my quest to catch an empty cabinet ...
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/news/Nintendo_jr_jr.jpg) (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=4871.0)
...the project is about to start. Here's the bad guy at the beginning :

General condition of this cabinet is quite nice as you can see :
Yeah, a lot of missing parts... but hey, that's a project cabinet after all.
Hey, something wrong about the front panel board?
It has probably been removed, and then re-attached... but not perfectly right... :roll:See

After removing the power supply :

SPECIAL FORCES KUNG FU COMMANDO!
LOL... It's the second time I've seen that marquee on a Nintendo cabinet!
Normal, this game has been released as a conversion kit for DK cabinets, see here (http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=5727&image=1).
Never seen or played that game so far?! Never mind, let's remove that marquee...
Hey, an unexpected gift behind it...a free tool, left by the previous owner... ;D

Yes, I've already seen your topic & the amazing job you've done. :)
Sorry, didn't mean to brag. Just send me a pm if you want to try the software.
-
Thank you, gladly appreciate your help on the software side. Few questions to come of course. ;)

OK, I can live with a *slightly* damaged T-molding, but this is too much of course
...so, let's remove it!
Although the pictures don't really show it, the cabinet need a serious cleaning... before :

It looks better now...

Had this bag since a lonnng time somewhere in my 'arcade mess', with no special plan for it...

I'm very tempted to make one for me too :)

Let's replace that horrible special forces kung fu whatever marquee. I need regular transparent perspex to build a a new marquee.
I use to think perspex is not easy to cut, but I would to give my jigsaw one more chance...
So, I bought a generic piece of perspex :
I found this blade...
...suitable for pespex! :)
Set the jigsaw blade motion speed very low and...
...no more fear about cutting perspex! ;D
I'm using this new FIFJr artwork marquee, part of a complete FIFJr 'full artworks package' I got from TOG...
...for a quick test 'on location' :)

yeah, a shame, because i had the same idea and had already located the winner of the competition last year, but since he was using facebook and i'm not doing that, i gave up on it. what an idiot i am in retrospect! i'm sure it sold for way under 1000 euros ... >:( :'(
-
if only it were a 1980s game :P
Cheers, Marco
-
I watched the film last year and thought it was a film of two halfs
The first half being the best
And I played the game last year too at revival meet and hated it
This cab had a flat screen in maybe this was the problem

Got the perspex/Plexiglas bezel :
For reference, I bought this one, right here (http://www.plexiglas-shop.com/BE/en/gs-allround-4aql41br8z4/plexiglas-gs-allround-grey-7c83-gt-cymfpo87lj7~p.html), it's the PLEXIGLAS® GS (allround), sheet, Grey 7C83 GT ref.
Now on location, after applying the bezel overlay :)

...and this project is done! :)
Here's the result

I've finally used a dead popeye control panel, 'rejuvenate/tuned' for Felix Fix Fr 8)
...and I kept of course the cigarettes burns on the plexi, buttons! ...and I even love the small 'cracks' in the CP plexiglas (around the 'fix' button)... which give a real 'used' appearance, like a real game coming right away from the 80s' :-*

Long live to RGB on CRT! :-*
Once again, many thanks to Sjaak for the software and his precious support! This game rulez and will be highly appreciate by many, but most important for me, by my daughter :)
I will shoot a video to show you how 'alive' this cabinet is now! :)

Another job well done

We should call you Fix It Bruno, but it just doesn't have the same ring as Fix It Felix Jr.
-
Long live to RGB on CRT! :-*
You did use a 31khz crt right? Can you detail more how you installed it? I think i tried to decase the same model for a project before, and ended up messing something up because it was hard to take out the tube and attached board from the shell
-
Absolutely awesome! Job well done Bruno!! :spaceace: :spaceace:

I had the same problem than you. Under the case, that specific monitor was the most frightening one I've ever seen : ton of boards, sub-boards...and yeah, mainly all use the case as their fixation. So this one would be too hard to integration without the case. I eventually installed it with its case. I've used angle metal brackets to fix it. There's a lot of space in these Nintendo cabinet ;)
-
As you can see I've used numerous strong angle metal brackets (some are hidden on that pictures) to fix the monitor, but also a piece of wood on top to maintain it :

Sorry for digging up this thread, but it seems like you miss something on the cab - the instruction sticker....

For the third time in 10 years, I'm having trouble with the computer running the game! >:(
I'm sick of using PCs, especially since the game is now emulable on Raspberry. :P
I've already completely replaced the computer once, then the graphics card, then the power supply, reinstalled Windows... In short, nothing but hassles that I no longer want in my game room.
So I've made up my mind...I'm diving back into this arcade cabinet... It's May 1st, and Darth Nuno Jr is getting impatient. ;D
Fortunately, in the game room, there's plenty to keep him busy! :)
So I'm now using the Raspberry to jamma Jr / Arpicade to play the game.
Many thanks to Dylon from Arpicade to provided me all the stuff needed :-* ...a ready easy and effective solution to play FFJr :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
