Title: Looking for ATARI Speakers
Post by: Alex_the_Kid on February 14, 2014, 02:45:48 PM
Hi Guys,

Would need such ATARI Speaker for my next restauration project - please look at the attached photos. It should have 8 Ohms and 10 Watts.

Thanks in advance

You could use a car speaker at the same size.

those two screws next to the speaker don't look original - and repros aren't original either. so an identical car speaker is nothing else than a repro :P

Mehhh, I love the three-way JBLs in my SW Cockpit. They are insanely much better than the original "multi-cone" speakers.....no-one can see them, but HEAR them all that much more :)

Oh and a tip.....IIIRC the size of speakers is measured diagonally.

Here - from the guy who ripped off the Asteroids (see other Ebay thread)

I just checked the other items that guy is stelling:

Wow, interesting coin door (well I mean the Atari/Bertolini sticker) never seen that before...

http://www.ebay.de/itm/ATARI-Asteroids-2-Slot-Coin-Door-Kassentur-mit-Munzprufer-Arcade-Automat-/390773083369?pt=Automaten&hash=item5afbe40ce9

It is also weird that it has a black ring, aluminum door and black coin-mech bezels....never saw that combo before either.....looks pretty nice actually :)

No intention of de-railing the thread ! :)

About that speaker: Atari just bought a speaker that was available, they didn't actually make speakers.....chances on finding exactly the same one ore extremely slim -> get a replacement that looks a lot like the original.

Judging by your pics, it looks like it is a 4" speaker (again, you have to measure speakers diagonally between the mounting holes).

Here's one from Suzo: http://eu.suzohapp.com/product/22-0143/shielded-full-range-speaker-10cm-%284%22%29

Looks like it has a nice big magnet on it which is (sometimes) an indication for quality and it is also shielded which is nice.

If you want to help me please don`t post endless alternate products....

i have only asked if anyone has the original speakers - no more, no less.

@Ully:  these screws are original screws used in many ATARI Cabinets - read the manual and you see these are the wright ones.

uh, alex, careful with your words, people are only trying to help you here and show you (better) alternatives in case you can't find the original speakers. i'm pretty sure some people might be offended by what you wrote and might think "good luck for finding those speakers, sucker!" :P

hrhrhr.
i must admit i felt uncomfortable reading alex reply. it can not all be because of the language barrier lately. i do understand that somebody wants to find original parts though i would not mind propper replacement when it comes down to invisible things like speakers... but i would be happy for any help i can get. it might not be the thing i was hoping and looking for... but you'll never know if it might help you some day.

Yes and this is a forum and not Marktplaats or Ebay or Google.

Why are some people so uptight lately. This is a hobby and on this forum we have a fine tradition of helping each other out, often people put in their spare time for free to get things done and arranged to help fellow collectors. It is just plain stupid to have this kind of attitude because you are REALLY not helping yourself, like Ully already pointed out so correctly.

What is the problem if i want fo find ORIGINAL speakers or parts ? I KNOW that a lot of alternative speakers are available...
I`m not a beginner in this hobby so i know what i want...no hard feelings.

I feel very little friendliness there, it's the tone, not the words. We, the _people_ on this forum are not robots, nor computers running search engine software.

And I didn't call you names, just suggested something to do with something.

Lat post about this, I wish you luck on your search. Now, I'm going to remove the Cinelabs HVT from my Star Wars cockpit and solder back in the red HVT (even though it's dead) because hey, my SW is not original anymore. Yes it won't be playable anymore, but who cares, as long as it is 100% original !!!   ::) ::) ::) ::)

Ahaha......I think you forgot a zero there and even then it still stays here   ;D

Seriously......let's put this behind us Alex, I may have been a bit overreacting too...I offer you my apologies for that. I just think more practical I guess. If something can't be find...use something that works, especially if it is so invisible like speakers.  Just MHO.
