I have been offered this cabinet(s?) and would just like to know if there is any interest in 'm.
It's the very rare 25th Anniversary edition Space invaders/QIX.
I have no specific info about the cabinet and will post more as soon as i get more info.
A few were made. Duh...
25 inch monitor.
Built in 2003.
Currently in Japan
Rank 1 of 100 on rarity, according to arcade museum. (for as much as that is worth anyway)
Probably expensive ;)

Mmmm, I played one in Belgium a couple of times. For me it misses SI's biggest attraction: the half-mirror set-up with the moon lit by black light etc.
Expect to play SI like you would on MAME, black background.
Qix is an "acquired taste" game. Some love it some hate it. I played it pretty often on my A8 BITD but the arcade version is a LOT harder.

True. I actually love the game. It was one of the few games that me and my brother started out with on Ye Old C64.

I like Qix, but I like Gal's Panic even better. Similar gameplay

Yeah, you just want to see the dirty pictures HUH !!!
Jinkx, get some original Taito Jap SI's overhere and you'll sell them like hot cakes ;)

Yup i've realized that woodies from Japan would be a great score. I'm spamming my contacts with requests and they've promised to be looking around for me.

Great :)
And don't forget Namco P1 and P2 buttons ;)

I never knew that cab was rare... but I'm not really a fan of reunion cabs.
I see this particular one all the time in the ferry from Dover to Calais and I have a bunch of pictures if you're interested.
As André said: this version lacks the beautiful paper background and plastic moon which dramatically lowers the fun of playing Space Invaders.
My advice would be: for the same price, be patient and buy the real deal.

i have both qix and space invaders (have to make the road trip tough) but somehow i would like to own at least one of those celebration cabs. :)
don´t ask me why... of course the price has to be reasonable. i would not pay more for such a cab than for an original one.

No offence end no arguing about matters of taste of course, but to me they are a bit too Frankencabs.
+ In this particular case I don't get why they went for the Midway look of the cab (sideart, CP) instead of the "Taito look".

Thats because the Midway cab are cooler looking ;)

I LOVE both, that's why I have both, see life is easy sometimes ;)

Interestingly, the cabinets that went to Japan had more of the Taito look (still with the "layered" Midway style cabinet):

I believe they were all built by Namco in the US.

That one looks a lot better. It does look a lot more like the picture that i received although the picture that i've got still isn't an actual photo.
I'll have to wait and see.

Yes wow, better indeed ! I've always loved the Taito artwork much better than the Midway... (Even though I _still_ wonder what that walking monster has to do with the invaders-on-screen ;))
The bezel is much better too ! The SI logo is centered and it doesn't have the annoying "25th Silver Anniversary" in that yukkie font under it....
About that 25th....think about it this way: in 2028 the 50th Gold Anniversary edition will NOT have a real CRT in there...... ;)
I don't hate those machines really. I think they're neat. They have some drawbacks but at least they brought the classic games back into the picture....I remember landing at JFK in 2011 and seeing LOTS of isles with some arcade machines (already amazing for us Europeans) and in every one there was one or even two Reunion Ms.Pac/Galaga machines.
They deserve their own spot, we may look down on them now a bit, but I'm sure in 25 years they will be more appreceated.....these may be the last "standard upright sized cabs with CRT monitor built in series production ever".
