Title: Calculation of what I put into Galaxian Nr. 815
Post by: level42 on November 16, 2013, 11:36:20 AM
I noticed Bruno closed my sale thread, and I agree with him, however he made clear enough in his last post there what the policy on this forum is.

Although I feel there is absolutely NO reason to defend my sales price, I just set down and added up all the money that I put into this machine. To be honest I was a bit surprised myself but I thought the end result was interesting enough to share it....

- cab bought for 175, transport (I then still thought I needed a van for such machines and had to pay gas and tunnel toll to my friend with the van: 10 toll, 10 euro gas)
- powder coating coin door gray 75
- powder coating CP, joystick base and marquee brackets 75 (each color requires set-up costs and yes this was an expensive powder coater, I was NEW in the hobby)
- brand new WG monitor 200 incl. transport (IIRC)
- paint, sanding paper etc. 20
- t-molding and new Midway logo plate 30 euro incl. shipping & import duties
- CPO from TOG 50 euro incl. shipping
- bezel was missing when I bought the machine, bought one from the US, I honestly don't remember what I paid for it plus shipping, let's estimate it on a low 50 Euro's
- new fluorescent ballast, holder and tube: 10

So that totals to 705 Euro !! I agreed on 800 Euro for Marco because I am pretty sure he's not selling it on tomorrow.

Anyway, so, I'm "earning" a total of 95 Euro on this, I think that is very fair for all the work I put in it.

And now I hope the price police shuts up forever. Man, you are not making yourself very popular here by doing that all the time....you are shooting yourself in the foot for sure.

you said it right at the beginning. there is no need to defend yourself.
even 900 is perfectly allright for a dedicated cab in such a condition and the given history of the machine.
i thought about getting it for my basement but i have too many games on my list at the moment.

I thought many times about doing this calculation for each of my cabs but was too afraid the result would scare me out of the hobby...  ;D

You're right Chris, but the thing is, I was new to this and striving for the ultimate perfection. I wouldn't put 150 Euro's into powder coating metal parts today, spray painting them is good enough. Also, then, and for many many years I was absolutely condiment that this baby was never going to leave my collection......that only changed when I bought the Jap Namco Galaxian.

Huh? Hope you don't speak about me I hope? Coz' I'm not for a price policy at all...
It's just that there's no reason to let a 'for sale' open, especially the the transaction is done, and when seller & buyer are both happy...
Want it open again, no problem...but just cannot figure out what else can be said on it?
Anyway feel free to continue the discussion here if needed...

No, no I didn't mean you at all Bruno, I totally agreed on your last post in the sales thread !  :) :)

Normally indeed the for sale thread could (and it still can) be closed since the deal is made, but I just started wondering what I have put into the game compared to what I'm selling it for now and I didn't see any harm in publishing the numbers on the forum.

No harm done. I think everything is said about this topic and I'm totally OK if you close both threads :)

I don't dare to calculate what's in my Lunar Lander but I have a pretty good idea....it's over 1k.........OMFG did I really do that ?!?!?

Just to land a tiny space ship on a line that is supposed to be the moon ?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

On the other hand.....it's probably the only one on main land Europe at the moment  ;D

Well detailed André, but you have forgotten that it's only a Galaxian, a common cab, and beyond 600€ for a minty one will be always too much ... you cannot calculate the whole value of your cab in adding all of what you have put inside, it's too easy !
With your kind of thinking, there is no limit of price.

Yeah well you know JCP.....I've arrived at the point to say: "Go fuck yourself" , but then I'm not that kind of guy, so let's just say that that is your opinion and I (and as it seems most others here) have a different one.

Fine with me.

Bruno....I suggest a lock now  ;D
