WOW, let's hope a couple make it over to Europe....this is what arcade games need: something extra you can't have at home. That has always been the thing that arcade games had making them popular.

Are there any REAL arcades left in Europe? Like with putting money in and play and stuff?

I am serious. I would like to know that and where they are!

...with the new information we have an idea of the price now (in a currency calculator its about$23,000 USD – not terribly surprising given it uses the “Gundam Pod” cabinet and those are always about $20k)

Oh yes.

There's a brand new one in Tilburg. There are still one's in Renesse, Vlissingen, Scheveningen, Zandvoort, Valkenburg

A couple of years ago there was a brand new one in Almere too but it already went bust.

The others are probably still hanging on because they have been around for decades and have relatively low costs I guess.

Of all the above, the Carousel in Vlissingen was the coolest, but it's already been a number of years that I was there.

I bet all of them are struggling though...

I really hope Namco will use this pod for other games, like the canceled Starblade : Operation Blue Planet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leT3saYfZr4)!  :P

I've actually been offered a set of these cabs. But in the Gundam version. They are sold in sets of 4 units and would fetch around 30K-35K euro per set. Problem is that they also need to be connected to a Japanese network to function. So just after informing me about the price they told me that it's useless for anywhere outside Japan.

I've heard a lot of stuff like VPN's etc. but in the end I never heard a concrete solution.
I've recently bought this beauty which has the same issue. The Darius Burst cab has also been released in the US where there is no network so I'm currently talking with Taito to get the US version (HDD) of the game. So there are solutions but probably none that'll work with the japanese networks.

I played this several times at IAAPA and man it is a blast. The huge screen really reminded me of a modern version of my StarBlade arcade, except that the computer corrects the graphics for the curved screen so there is no 'fisheye' type view. While the seat didn't rumble and there are no other effects, the screen and seating position keeps you so immersed in the action that some people had to quit playing early due to motion sickness (it almost got to me as well).

The game seemed fun for beginners but you could tell that there would be enough gameplay to keep those who want to become experts happy. Namco wouldn't comment on pricing when asked, but were happy to note the patents they have on the projection system and software.
