Hey guys!
I just got a shiny new Defender but it has one little problem that keeps me from playing it. :)
The machine boots up and makes a self test. After that it jumps in bookkeeping mode. I have seen the manuals how to leave this mode but somehow this will not work for me. As soon as I press the buttons behind the coin door in the order that was written in all the manuals... it just does nothing except jumping into the next option in the bookkeeping mode.
do you guys have any idea? maybe i am doing something terribly wrong. i understand that there are some issues with the battery but the previous owner told me that he was allways able to exit bookkeeping anyway.
Thank you for your help!

I had that problem with a Sinistar I used to own and it was the battery which had a broken leg.
You may want to check it didn't get damaged in transport or it may simply have died.

I've seen this when the CMOS RAM is bad, the 5101.

Paul.

yeah.. i know about this and we will fix it. the previous owner told me that you can still play it though when you go into a certain mode in bookkeeping mode. this does not seem to work for me.

Very likely the CMOS needs to be replaced. Unfortunately the chip is soldered directly to the board ... place a socket for future maintenance ;)
What about the battery? Have you properly installed it?

will take a look at the battery first. maybe it did not like the transport. :)
but even a soldered chip would not be a real problem for us. ;)
thank your for your help!

Quick update:
Defender seems to work now. There simply was no battery on the board. :)
After installing the 2032 i found the Defender rebooting itself after a few minutes. I just checked all the chips and all the cables... and now it seems that everything is okay again. Played for 30 minutes without any problems. But boy... this game is a hard beast. I was so much better at it when I was a kid. :)
anyway.. thank you for your help. :)

Yeah, that for me one of the hardest game released in arcade! But it's a dawn cool game! Love these typical Williams in-game sounds! :-*
Game on!
