The UK’s most diverse video gaming expo is back!

Play Expo returns to EventCity, Manchester on 12-13 October 2013 after a hugely successful debut last year.

Play Expo will expand considerably on last year’s show and will once again feature four distinct events:
■re.play (retro systems and arcade/pinball machines)
■now.play (previews of the latest games and hardware)
 ■pro.play (casual and competitive tournaments)
 ■cos.play (costume competitions and dealers/traders).

The re.play area gets an extreme makeover for 2013

We have been busy these past few months working on the re.play area of Play Expo. Last week we took delivery of 100 new LED TV’s to significantly increase the number of machines we can have on display at this year’s show and we have been buying many rare and unusual exhibits from all over the world. Play Expo 2012 saw over 300 classic computers, consoles and handhelds on display in the re.play area. This year we will increase that number to …

We will once again be working with JAMMA+ – the Arcade Video Game Collectors forum – to bring you an unparalleled selection of classic arcade games, all set to free play for the duration of the weekend. This year we will have over 100 machines on show, the most we have had to date. There will be a selection of rare …

Further announcements will be made as we get closer to the show, but today we can announce that Northern Lights Pinball will be returning to Play Expo and bringing with them an even bigger collection of machines than ever before! Any idea on what the cab selection will be like?

				check the website...

				check the website...

I did and it is all very vague:

"There will be a selection of rare dedicated arcade machines and JAMMA cabinets"
-
"We will begin confirming exactly which machines will be at the show from next week onwards, but for now why not have a look at this video showing the 2012 arcade and imagine this years show even bigger and better…"
...meaning "be patient for the exact 100cabs list."  ;)

Which was posted over a month ago  :)

most of the cabs come from the guys at jammaplus, the guys have an awesome selection of old machines, last years selection was fantastic, theyve also got ukvac on board this year too (i think)

I think that is unlikely, which is a shame

Agreed, the selection last year was pretty good.

I'm just hoping that the majority are not just Jamma cabs, and there is a good selection of 80's classics
-
Here's the full list of cabs confirmed from Jamma+ at Play this year. There should be something for everyone. We've got games going from Space Invaders & Pac-man, right up to Planet Harriers & OutRun 2 SP.

We are all extremely excited to have an incredible Nintendo dedicated row - which I don't think you'd have even seen back in the arcade heyday, 7 stunning cabs - Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, Punch Out and Super Punch Out uprights, Space Firebird and Space Fever cocktails.

We also have some rarely seen dedicated cabs, such as Taito's Ice Cold Beer, Konami's Gyruss and a Midway Pac-Land among others. 5 cockpit cabs, 5 twin driving cabs, all 3 operation wolf games, Chase HQ and the 2 follow ups all in matching cabs, a cracking line of cabaret cabs, including Phoenix, Bubble Bobble & GORF.

We'll also be having some live play on projectors from world champion gamers Jon Stoodley & Tony Temple on Pac-Man & Missile Command respectively. We will also have dbrown with his incredible mini cabs all on display and ready to play.

It's going to be an amazing weekend, you really don't want to miss it ;D

-
Wow, that list is awesome, beats everything I have seen so far.  :o

I wish that I could be there, but unfortunately my remaining hobby spending budget is almost gone.  :-\

Have fun, and please post some pics after the event here.
-
				nice gamelist :spaceace:

-
There will be plenty of photos, I'll be sure to post plenty here  ;)
We should have a pro cameraman making a nice video for us too if he can make it.
-
That is on tempting list you got there  :) to bad I 'm busy busy busy  :-\

-
It would be nice, if you can make some pics from yourselves also. :D

-
You need at least one original Space Invaders in that listing though... just invite me next time and I'll bring one or two along  ;)

Van is organised for Friday.  One slight problem of a SW cockpit non worker that my wife does not know about (yet) to collect from Edinburgh when I pick up IDchappy's and Cosines  candies before grabbing my 4 Defender, Stargate, Roby and Centipede and making the drive down to Manchester.

LOL and congrats. I feel a bit responsible ;)

Not at all mate, I stuck a bid in on it on ebay months ago (same guy I got the upright from), never dreaming I would win the auction.  Only now getting round to picking it up due to our schedules meaning we both seemed to be at different ends of the planet at the same time for the last 4 months.  Still need a 26" amp to go with it though.  She does not know about 2 williams cocktails and the other 2 cabs from the US either that I have bought either.

On the plus side, Defender, Stargate, Robotron & Centipede have all been play tested (briefly) tonight.  Sound was gone on Defender - mis-aligned plug on sound board.  New batteries fitted also as the existing ones were done.  Really looking forward to next years exhibition circuit so I can add Joust and Sinistar to the lineup, as well as a couple of williams cocktails.

What a great weekend! Everything went smoothly and there were a crazy amount of visitors to the arcade. We Ended up with 112 cabs, and through the course of the weekend only lost 8 which is pretty good as you guys know  :)

The hall was absolutely huge. Next to the arcade was the pinball section where they managed even more pinballs than we had cabs  :o

I'll add some pictures now  8)

Here is how the arcade looked just before the doors opened.

My Star Wars only lasted the first 2 hours of the day, unfortunately the small gear in the yoke snapped so it lost up & down movement. Luckily a spare was brought along and so we were able to look at it at the end of the day.

These next 2 pics of the consoles area give a pretty good idea of how big the show really is. These areas are next to the pinballs which then leads to the arcade. To walk from one end to the other took ages!

				Pictures from Sunday.

First task of the day was getting Star Wars working - and it just about did for the day, not what you'd call accurate as the crosshair was very jerky, but I don't think people who hadn't played it since the 80's really noticed.

The main hall lights were off for Sunday so the whole arcade looked much better.

We set up a large stage and projector in the middle of the arcade area. On here we had the Missile Command world record holder Tony Temple and UK Pac-Man champion Jon Stoodley playing on their cabs going for high scores. No big games unfortunately but it was great to watch them play.
