Hi arcade fans and handheld lovers,
(https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/964511_342819172511822_295710117_o.jpg)
Last 2 years I have been working on my book "2kB of Fun". A massive book on our beloved handhelds. Later this week I will let you know when it is going to be released and how to get it, but for now, please support me by liking my Facebook page about the book:

Now that looks like a professional and tight design !
Definitely a lot better than what we've seen from some other books about videogames etc.
Still....don't judge the book by..... ;) ;D
-
Woow, I was waiting for that one! Can't wait to read it :-* :-* :-*
-
I tried to let the cover be a good idea of the inside. Clean design, lots of original research, nice cutaway drawings, great photos....
-
Looks very nice !
-
Wow, count me in for a copy. ;)
-
Here's a small video from an early sample print:

This looks really nice :spaceace:
-
Indeed, GREAT pictures !! Very professional and I really like the lay-out. Also looks like you went "deep" into the technology behind it. Very nice !
-
The material for the book will also be used in my 2 presentations at Eurocade (saturday and sunday).
-
Wow, count me in for a copy. ;)
+1
I had the chance to see a little preview some weeks ago, really impressive!!
We will also have some of the handhelds mentioned in the book on display during the Retro Game Experience.
-
Here some thumbs:

Remember any?
There are some oddities: to show the context, you also see a Speccie, a Videopac G7200 and a Casio calculator. The first kind of killed the handheld in the UK, the second is a nice crossover between table top game and console, the third is the calculator that inspired Gunpei Yokoi.
-
I look forward to your presentation @ eurocade
I had some handhelds BITD, but I think I gave them away or something
-
Yeah, looks great..... Bring enough copy's to Eurocade.

Very impressive. Great work.

The page you are looking for is currently in "DRAFT" mode and hidden from the public. Please contact the campaign owner if you feel this is in error!
-
No, somewhere in this topic I told it goes live tomorrow at 09.00
So before that, you see this.
-
 my bad, i thought 9:00 this morning..
-
Today the Americans have a day off.
-
OK guys, we're live.
If you want a special backers-edition with limited edition cover, pre-order today:

-
how does pre-ordering the book work exactly? do i have to become a part of that kickstarter campaign?
-
Yes, choose the perk you like (http://igg.me/at/2kboffun), order it and pay with Paypal.
-
I found out that money2.nl offers a great option to pay with iDeal. You still have to make a Paypal account, but you can skip adding a bank account or credit card.
We are at 1100 in 11 hours. Going great! Any DLF's on the project yet?
-
I really hope you mak it :spaceace:
I'm in doubt what package I'll take
-
I'm in of course! :)
Can't wait to read your book!

just to make sure, if i want a print of the book, i have to take the 50 euro package (or more), right?
-
That is correct!
-
Call me a cheap bastard, but what will be the price of the book without the goodies ?
-
The store price will be 49.90. It is a HUGE book. Have a look at similar sized titles from Gestalten. They sell at that price too, and this will be even higher quality print.
-
Cool, just asking ofcourse
I think i will pledge for the 50€ then ! ;)
-
And I'm doing the all or nothing campaign. I'm not going to make a half-baked book with half the money.
The supporters will get a special blue-metallic inlay version instead of the silver one.
-
I'm also in! ;D
-
i'm in with 50 :)
-
What, no DLF discount ? ;D
Watched the video, love the pro way you made the pictures. There should be a book with such professionally made pictures of cabs....
-
I am in also !
Ofcourse as a crazy kong fan, i choose the Crazy Kong variant ;D
-
here should be a book with such professionally made pictures of cabs....
One of the options for the next....
Do you know you all qualify to win a Astro Thunder 7 with your early support?
-
I pre ordered the book, hopefully you'll succeed
-
This is the cover of the backers-edition:

Custom made for the supporters on Indiegogo.
They will receive a green metallic version with the internals being shown instead of the silver one. Not available in stores.
-
Looks great!!
btw, did you approach websites like Kotaku, they write stories about gaming kickstarters all the time.
-
I did but they told they don't cover unfinished products. Maybe I contacted the wrong editor. Try again..
-
Just paid.
Have you tried on KLOV? I couldent imagine they arent interested in such things there...
-
Thanks!
Just recognised the avatar when I put your email address on Facebook!
I'll register on KLOV too.
-
Where can I pre-order?

I'm thinking about adding a huge perk on Indiegogo.
A 10000€ one: Handheld Museum in a box!
You get:
225 games used to make the book, about 11000€ value and about 3000€ saving on shipping costs as you get them all at once.
10 copies of the book
What do you guys think?
-
That is some what a good idea, if you want to let go of all the games......
But im sure someone with the right interest for these handheld games, and huge pockets would be interested in a deal like this.

i don't have 10.000 € to spare :'(
but indeed like muerto says, if you want to part with them, and you find someone that have deep pockets..
-
if you want to let go of all the games......
For the best ones I have doubles to play on! So I won't be doing away everything.
-
So your collecting was all about just writing the book ?????????
-
Yes, and to play the games. Buying things for gathering dust is not one of my hobbies.
-
It will be difficult to sell them all at once for a good price. People that are allready collecting just want to have what they are missing. Shops and traders would want to pay a lower price for the lot. I hope you can sell it for a good price but it will be a long shot...... That is the reality of collecting. :-\

Hoping for a spoiled kid, either from a sjeik in Dubai, or one that made millions in the Valley ;)
Also coming with a new perk: a full scale cardboard Retro Space.
-
Hi, just bought your book... I think. The €50 donation.
-
Just paid.
Have you tried on KLOV? I couldent imagine they arent interested in such things there...
Can someone recommend me there. Username is 2kboffun. I love to donate, but I never fill in my paypal address anywhere, so I'll do that anonymously then, and more important: can't find the link to do so.
-
Just tried to upgrade you at klov, but it says :
User is already in a usergroup other than "Pergatory"
-
I can post there, so maybe someone was really fast in recommending.
-
Did you include the Atari Cosmos in the book ?
-
Hi Blanka,
Can I ask what the status of your book is? Did you get the funding to continue?
All the best,
Si

Status update:
Follow the project on FB to get all the updates: www.2kboffun.com
I want to add even more depth to the project before relaunching it on Kickstarter soon. The main goal is to give insight in how these games made such a fantastic gameplay with only 1 or 2kB. So we are decapping, optical reading ROM's and disassembling code right now. It is really fascinating!
If you have any game wrecks that are FUBAR but still have an MCU, please check the brand and I would love to throw it in Sulphur Acid!
I'm mostly interested in NEC or Mitsubishi microcontrollers as those have proven to be easy to read and we know the instruction sets.
