Hey guys,
is there some good advice for me to bring back the rich original colour on faded vinyl?
I have my Roadblastes and Brunos Moon Patrol that I would like to polish a bit. Both still look great but the colours faded away a little (which is perfectly ok with me). But if there is an easy way to deal with this... please let me know. :)
Greetings!
Stefan

If its because of dirt, the magic erasers do a good job, if its really faded, there is no way to bring it back i think...
i mean whats gone is gone..
i dont think colors are comming back by any kind of polishing :?

the cab is fantastic, bruno. :) it is still up here in my shop and people love it so much. you should see the eyes of the people in our age that enter the shop. :D
priceless!!!

Shoe polish ? Be sure to cover up the non-black parts ! AND be sure to COMPLETELY rub in and then rub out the polish so it won't stay on your hands when you play....
But I'd try the magic erasers first...

oh cool idea. i have some of that in my basement. :) fixed stick one of my mario bros cab with it in 5 seconds. it is a really universal spray. :)

good cockpit spray (i use the brand NIGRIN) is also a great product to bring out colors on control panel overlays and vinyl in general!
-
Ah !.......can't smell the smell though....
-
so many advices. i love this place and you guys rock.

normally i would agree, most cockpit sprays suck, but the one i have is completely different: fabulous smell, always my favorite part of a restoration!

Siliconen spray i think also work
-
Mmmm, maybe make a secret mix of WD-40, Silicon-spray, Cockpit-spray and black shoe-polish....mmmmm......sound like "Retro-black" instead of "Retro-bright ;)"

I did try the WD-40 30 minutes ago and the result ist amazing on the Moon Patrol. as you can see not only the black shines again.. but also the other colours. I will let it try even more now and we will see what is left from it. :)

honestly, i wouldn't use the wd-40. admittedly, it looks great on the pic, but since this stuff is made to lubricate / grease items and NOT to make them shine (contrary to cockpit spray or wax products), i'd be very careful with it!!!

Not so bad compared to what it looked liked when we picked it up. :)

i was very careful. this morning i used it on a tiny part of the panel... acutally on a place that you can not see because it faces the floor when you are standing right before the cab. after half an hour I thought that the result was good enough to give it a try.
I hope it was okay that I used it on ChrisChris Q-Bert cause this baby was gone for real. Turned out to be great.
This morning I also went on Amazon.de to buy the Nigrin you told me about.
-
Thanks so much for that!!!

Maybe I should leave my cab a bit longer at your place? ;D ;D

yeah... it might work again the longer it stays... cause i love q-bert, too. :D

hopefully you bought the right stuff (smell-wise), because there are many different brands. this (http://www.dooyoo.de/autopflege/nigrin-nanotec-cockpitspray/) is the one i am using - bought it at OBI ;D

What WD40 does is repel humidity but it does leave a thin oil membrane when everything else has evaporated, so, indeed, probably not the best place to apply it.
WD40 = "Water Displacement, 40th attempt". They didn't brainstorm long for that name :)

yeah... the people from bremen have seen it´s condition when it was stored there. it is a difference I can tell you. :)
since the cab is located in my shop I thought I give it a try. People love the 5 cabs up here. At least 15 people each day ask me how much they are and if they can buy one. :)

It was not pigeon shit, it was a very expensive product used to protect the CPO during the transport, the same they use at NASA actually.

Ah! I mistaken that shit for S.H.I.T.
Seriously High-tech Impenetrable Top-layer

Wow, and these NASA CPO's are quite impressive

it takes a lot of S.H.I.T.

Holy... got those magic sponge-things yesterday and I thought I would give it a try on the Moon Patrol-sidearts since they had those very common black dots and scratchmarks on it.
well... before:
