Title: Noob-Question: How to "wash" a board
Post by: Tyrem on January 31, 2013, 10:59:44 AM
Heyho again. :)

I  must admit... I am ashamed to ask this question but I´ve seen that some people offer to clean pcbs.
I wonder how to do this in the best way since some of my boards would need some cleaning for sure.

Any advice for me from you guys?

Greetings from Trier!
Stefan

put it in a dishwasher and give it a lot of time to dry afterwards!

If the dirt is not too bad you can use alcohol with a paintbrush.

Exactly, they must be really really dirty before I dip them into anything...else I use brush/alcohol on some paper towel.

'helped'? What do you mean? How should this help?

...by removing dust inside sockets for example, that may sources of 'bad IC connection' problems.

ah, I understand. I think the only way to get rid of such dirt is to use a very small flat screwdriver and put it in each pin of the sockets. A re-insert of the ICs should also do the job :)

Yes this was never meant as a way to fix bad contact problems, just to get a nice and clean looking board....

I use all times my dishwasher, only PCBs what i not put in there, are pcb with a suicide bat like the Gaeleco Rally boards. When u put a a pcb with a bat into a dishwasher u can be sure it not longer work after the wash cycle  ;D
I never pull the ic out of the sockets, only 2 weeks drying after the wash cycle, that is important :)

So after you washed them you don't do any manual drying ? Just let it stand there for 2 weeks ?
In those 2 weeks the water rests will be happily corroding any metal right ?
