Yup....looking for an Atari Power Brick, Power Block or Power Supply to use on my work-bench.
Doesn't need to be in top condition. Doesn't need to be complete (transformer must be present).
-
and another label set ? ;)
-
Naaahhhh, this one will end up on my workbench.....
-
brought the other by the way, i was visiting my mother for christmas
its a standard switcher from Suzo 8)
-
Hah cool, I love Suzo stuff ;) ;D
Merry X-mas ! ;D
-
Thanks for the switcher Etienne, just tested it and works perfectly !!!!
-
Great, i have never tested it, so i am glad it works !
Have fun with it ;)

Hahah, finally I found one on German ebay and for a great price too.
It arrived yesterday.
It has an Epsitron ETF 562 transformer on it. I haven't seen this "brand" of transformers before on Atari Power Bricks.
Anyway, the Atari part nr. is A035888-02 which is listed as Centipede/Millipede brick, or according to Jed Margolin's list: Color Raster/BW vector international version.
It's missing the Big Blue, but I've still got a Big Blue repro from Bob Roberts in my spare parts so finally this will see some good use. Regretfully the ring that needs to hold the Big Blue and the included screws are missing too, bit harder to replace (US size screws).
I looked at the bottom. Everything looks to be there but there is no wire from the + of the diode bridge and the - wire has been cut. I have a feeling this diode bridge might be dead.
Should be easy enough to fix, still got a good old diode bridge in my spare parts.
-
I have "Taps" Metric, if you want to modify the screwhole..
A piece of metal strip bended to a clamp will not be a problem ;)
Or just drill through the hole and use a bolt and a nut..
-
Excellent McGyver tips. Since it will be my bench test unit anyway, I'll go for a very simple solution I guess :)
-
I checked everything on this baby. First of all it is in excellent condition. Way better than the one from Hungary ( not that it matters !!) but I well may use this one in my Asteroids project cab and use the Hungary one for my "workbench".
Now, the diode bridge looks to be fine. first measured it with the Fluke DVM and all measurements are fine.
Next I powered it up upto the diode bridge, get a nice 10,5v DC from it so that looks good. Next I dug up my Bon Robert's Big Blue to connect it. However, this of course also has those ^{%£#}_*^{%}# US sized connections. I went through about all the nuts, bolts, screws etc. that I always save (esp. the non- metric stuff) and I found ONE perfect screw for it.....why just one.....the irony.....
Of course I can borrow one from the other power brick but that will just postpone my little problem, o well, little choice...

I think this is easily the best looking/condition Atari Power Brick I've got. Cleaned it (just removing some dust really) and it looks great !

Something I haven't seen before: The fuse holder is raised for some reason. Anyone else seen that before ? I wonder why they did this ?

I also never saw an "Epsitron" transformer on one. Looks almost like new. I wonder (hope) that it's normal that the purple wire is cut...need to check.

Just my luck: finding just 1 fitting screw in my stack of parts.....:

They'd cut the orange wire going to the diode bridge so I put on a new clamp. The + wire was missing altogether (I think someone wanted the Big Blue and did a quick job) so I found a nice fitting wire in my work stuff that we normally use to connect batteries to fire alarms ;). Put a clamp on that one too and ready......when I find a correct screw for the + of the Big Blue....

That does look brand new !
could it be a refurbished one ?
perhaps the fuseholder was replaced, and they wanted to keep distance from the metal base plate ?
-
Wow! Looks NOS/NIB!!! :o
-

That's exactly the only reason I could think of too, preventing maybe the clamps/metal lips to short to the metal....but that's a pretty long shot, still maybe electrical regulations, no idea.
I found out that the violet (not purple ;)) wire needs to run to the minus terminal of the Big Blue....great.....I have very little to connect to near the transformer but I'll manage. This guy really needed that Big Blue quickly, he just cut off everything "holding it back".....
But indeed, it looks very very nice....
-
I don't quite understand the power selection connectors wire color though. I've seen Brown, Blue and Yellow and Violet is indicated too but I've never seen that AFAIR.
This one seems to have a "white" set. Anyway, going to go with the brown setting anyway, this is for 240VAC which I always prefer to use.
I'll just check the connections to see what the white one is set up for, my guess is 120VAC. Let's hope they didn't connect it like that directly to European mains....
-
Got this baby running just fine ! :):)
Fixed all the missing wires and temporarily hooked up the Big Blue just for testing with some crocodile clamps.
Used the brown voltage selection plug as that is what I need.
Get 13,7 Volts DC across the Big Blue, and an AC rimple of 0.00 to 0.01 so BRs BiG Blue works excellent.
I checked all the outgoing voltages AC and DC, all 100%
Very happy with this unit, next step is hooking up the spare AR2 that I bought earlier and then we have a full workbench set up for Atari games. Nice to be able to work on stuff outside a cab.
-
Just checked, the white color power adapter (whit wires/light gray) wires is set up as the Blue version, so it's 220V.
This means this Power brick was definitely for Europe/UK only since it came with only the connectors for 220V and 240V.

Hey guys......remember this:
The most beautiful Atari Power Brick I've ever seen and all it was missing (ok except of the Big Blue holder) was 1 lousy screw to connect the 2nd terminal of the Big Blue.
What do you think....this week I am working at a datacenter in 020. You know, these datacenters with rows and rows of 19" racks filled to the brim with servers and RAID harddisk sets on a raised floor.
Well, the "fun" part if that there are often smoke detectors under those raised floors as well and this means removing tiles, sticking your head through the hole, find the detector and test it. Luckily I have some assistance of a younger colleague but when he opened tile nr. 18 or so, I saw something.
There on the floor was.......................a screw.
Now, to fully understand: this datacenter was built following British standards. This means all electricity piping (incl. for the fire alarm) is METAL pipes and UK sized boxes, switches etc. etc. which is really weird for us.
Anyway I notice that screw....on the floor about 70 cm. below the raised floor and I was standing up....and I think....WTF.....that looks like the screw I need ! And this may be actually an imperial sized screw because of all the UK stuff they used to install stuff there...
So I get on my knees, pick up the screw....my colleague is saying, why the hell do you pick that up and I say....just wait, I'll tell you tomorrow :)
So I just tried it and it is THE PERFECT SCREW !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I guess the arcade gods have deep and strange ways...... ;D ;D ;D
-
Hehe, thats pretty cool, is it the one missing or present on the picture??
-
It's still missing on that pic. It is exactly the same as the one on the picture on the other terminal...
-
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!
:spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Awesome!

Must have been meant to be ;)
-
Maybe it IS the exact screw which used to be in the power brick  ;D
-
Uhhhh....yehhhh ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
