im currently making a 12" robotron model, as per a customer order, he intends on putting a 5" lcd screen in and attaching it to a raspberry pi - heres a pic. oh because of the size im making it from MDF instead of basswood - just need to paint it and add the artwork
-
It looks wrong ;D don't mean to upset but it's definitely not right.
-
Looks like the marquee area overhangs the rest of the cab?

it doesnt, its just the angle of the photo...
p.s. i know big jw very well, his models are of the highest quality :)

Starting to take shape :)

Sorry gotta agree with Alpha1.....which version should this resemble ? Seeing the black side-art I'd say it should be the UK/Euro version and in that case the marquee is WAY to far extended:

ITS JUST A MODEL FFS!!!

Urban Dictionary: FFS
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FFS
FFS. Acronym for, for fuck's sake. FFS! Shut up, woman! Just don't let him carry you down the stairs when he's ...
Tsk tsk... *shakes head*
They only shared their oppinoin, if you can take the critic, simply dont post here....
-
If you can't take any well meant criticism, better not post Mr. Subzero. (By the way, this is the 2nd time you loose your temper on this forum...)
I am probably going to hurt you even more, but I am also known to say what I think so here I go:
Almost nobody responds to your model threads because frankly, they suck.
You keep searching for admiration about them, but you fail to get it. I'm sure you have many talents, but this is not one of them.
In my eyes a "model" is a (smaller sized) replica of something, trying to resemble the original as much as possible.
On this one:
1) Is it the US or the UK/Euro version ? The shape hints to the US version, but the side-art is the UK/Euro version.
2) The rest of the artwork looks to be the US version...
3) the kickplate area is too wide, or not high enough
4) the overhang of the marquee area is too obvious
5) the sides are sloped on both the US and UK/Euro cabs near the conrol panel area, your "model" has a straight angle
All in all, it doesn't even come close.
Yes this is not nice to say, but it is the truth.

Forum rules being broken alert!!!
'1. Be nice to each other. I'm serious about this one. Disagree, debate, argue at will - but please be respectful. Messages that are flame-bait, hateful, racist, or otherwise pointlessly antagonistic will likely be sent to post-hell, and repeat offenders banned from posting.'
your above post is not nice and has been reported!
-
Ahh, and SHOUTING and saying FOR FUCK'S SAKE _is_ nice ?
oh and you reported me ? You sound like a little school boy, grow up and be a man already.
-
more insults!!!!

your above post is not nice and has been reported!
It might not be nice but it's honest and it's true!
Come on, don't you think a model should look like it's original brother? Sorry, but that Robotron header really IS far too large.
If you want to build a Robotron model, download Google Sketchup (there's a free but powerful version). Then go to 3D Warehouse and search for the Robotron 3d-model. This model is very accurate (US-version I think) and you can measure the complete cab with the tools in Sketchup. Same with other models, there are lots of them. You can even get most of the artwork from it's textures.

Its obvious to me that you lot care too much about 'perfection' yet the buyer has not complained-i think I've over stayed my welcome here,i'll not be posting anymore,i'll only return to view brunos lair topic.

I think people were only being honest. You say you are making models yet they look nothing like what a Robotron is supposed to be like. If I was your buyer I would be complaining right now... Unless of course it was for free rather than money.
If you can't take honest and friendly feedback I suggest taking a little time to reflect on yourself.
If you had said 'I know the cabinet doesn't really look right - but that's not what the customer wanted' then none of the replies would have happened.
Chill.

I would like to comment on this.... :-\
I really like to think we're all friends here willing to help one another with what ever project they're working on. Criticism should be given constructively, not rudely.
I belong to some other forums where people are just down right mean, and I don't want to see that happen to this community.
Typical responses that are given on this other board:
Fake and Gay, Stupid, Lame. Kill yourself. etc etc.... you get the idea. I just don't want that kind of mean stuff to filter it's way here.
What everyone here needs to remember:
1. Everyone is not a skilled woodworker. For some it comes easy, others never even picked up a hand tool.
2. Everyone is not an electronics technician.
3. Some on this forum are much more affluent, while others live on a tight budget.
An example.. I used to install car stereos for family friends etc. and one day a "professional" came over and saw some of my work in my own truck and made fun of the work I did with materials I had "around the house" Rather than saying something nice or just keeping the rude comments in his head, he just proceeded to make me feel like crap.
This is the same example of the Robotron model. SubZero was just enjoying what everyone else does here, and was just sharing a project with everyone. Like I said earlier, some of you have more skills than others, and some could do better and/or worse. Let's just give Positive Feedback to each other.

I'm sorry, but the one who started to be rude was Subzero (not for the first time by they way) and nobody else with his SHOUTING (for those who don't know internet etiquette, everything in CAPITALS is considered as shouting) and crying out "For Fuck's Sake".
Before that, only honest and constructive criticism was given. That happens all the time here, the idea is to try to help each other to get a better result, or just give one's opinion.
If you post things here, you can expect people to respond.
Yes this is a friendly forum, but it's not a Disneyland fairytale either. We are (mostly) men of at least progressed adult age and we should be able to discuss things in an adult way.
How about if he'd said..."hey guys, you have a point, but this is the best I can do" instead. Than everyone would have respected that and leave it.
-
I (almost) agree!
Nobody said "This is crap" or "better stop doing that" or criticised his craftmanship. The only thing that was discussed was the size of the header. And that was done in a 'good will' way and not agressive. Like Ol (Alpha1) said, one should be able to stand such a discussion without getting rude and being offended.

CAPITALS IS SHOUTING ;)

Explain to me how this is not considered rude, because where I come from it damn well is!
-
Tell me who was the first to be rude?
This leads to nothing but anger and trouble so let's stop it. Now we all know your models are not meant to be 100% copies of the originals. Acknowledged.

I sense a TROLL here. ;D
