I don't really, because the first point of developing these are militaristic
These funny looking robots are financed by DARPA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DARPA and I don't think I will have to explain what these guys are dreaming off: an immortal soldier...
....Cyber wars are coming....

Hey, to say stuff like that on the Darpa Net is verboten!
but seriously, the problem is much more that military is the only sector in the US not directly limited by the need to MAKE money with their products. Civil companies just don't have the money to do stuff like that, as they won't make any money back in time. So its much more of a economical system problem than a military problem IMHO.

Do you know that Samsung produces this ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5YftEAbmMQ
That's even worse.

See, that's why I buy Apple and not Samsung !! I never buy Samsung.
(OK,OK, I've got Samsung tubes in the WG monitors we bought in a "group buy" a couple years ago here....but I couldn't know/help that ;) ;D)
This is going to be funny....let's say it accidently shoots someone who does surrender, and next you will get a firmware update because they just ironed out a security bug.....
I bet it can even see the difference between North- and South-Koreans ;D
If you seriously think the military sector doesn't MAKE money you are a bit off I think...
The reason WHY they can finance research like this is that they do so freaking well !!!
But whatever, we people seem to go to our very limits to kill each other...
Oh, and I'm sure about every big electronics company in the world has some military related part....

You know that iPad and iPhone CPUs and displays are supplied by a Samsung division, do you ;)
The military sector doesnt make money, it BURNS it. But I was referring to edge cutting R+D anyway. This is traditionally done at universities, start ups started by university graduates and/or ex-IBM employees. In the US stuff like DARPA is necessary to fund R+D on universities AND start ups if they are not straight money makers aka the next big thing. I dont think that there is going to be an investor spending milllions and billions on this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu2IXk5Jbag), knowing that the stuff will take ages to develop and being too expensive for another couple of ages due to not existing demand/market/infra-structure and stuff.
Well, if military is the only sector really needing stuff like that, as its bombing the roads (a civilized human would use for transportation) back to stone age AND isnt supposed to brake even, rather just to burn money from a nations "defense" budget - what do you expect? The civil sector just doesnt care enough about being ahead of the future NOW to fund projects in the kind of way necessary. Military is about "burning money" (to secure) the civil sector/economy being able to stay "profitable". Nighty night.

Cant help it, but need to post the most mind shattering video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwa8m8VwhWU&feature=related) of their products to date. Poor Big Dog getting kicked and beaten. Its alive! And if you are not touched by how it manages to not slip and fall, then you dont have a heart/soul kinda thing in ya buhuhuhuhu :'(

Yep, Robocop p.o.w. of the topic is much more interesting than the Terminator perspective I think.
