Title: What else do you collect?
Post by: subzero1970 on June 29, 2012, 07:08:04 PM
Besides arcade machines or retro stuff is there anything else you guys collect?? I have a rather large collection of badges and keyrings, some from the 70's - my 2 favourite being a badge from when superman the movie was released and a badge from when star wars was released, what about you guys???

p.s. im always on the lookout for more badges n keyrings, especially from abroad!

My wife wouldn't like it of I collected even more stuff.....

I try to collect money, but For some reason the other hobby seems to be pretty hurtful for this one.... ;D

Love the japanese robots from the 70's 80's (can't really afford the ones from the 50's 60's).
I grew up with Grendizer on TV (we called it Goldorak) and was always a big fan of Popy toys (http://toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/popy_data/popy_index.htm) especially Jumbo Machinders (http://www.collectiondx.com/category/machinder) (or Shogun Warriors (http://www.wildtoys.com/shogun/index.asp) as Mattel rebranded a part of the line).
Childhood memories, huge size, bright colors, clean geometrical aggresive shapes = everything I love about them!

One of my graal, the Grendizer jumbo machinder Japanese version, you can start sparing money for my next birthday. ::)

I've got collections of various different things. First, I'm a big fan of Pearl Jam, and I've got around 400 bootlegs (audio and video) on my computer and on CD, plus of course all official albums and DVDs, numerous CD singles and a small collection of vinyl, t-shirts, stickers and tourposters. I also have a collection of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler CDs, videos, singles and vinyl.

Besides that, I've got a pretty complete Colecovision collection, 3 Commodore Amigas with quite some expensive add-ons and a lot of boxed games. Finally there's a few hundred books and comics, CDs and vinyl, and I've got 6 electric guitars...

I collect Everything about Atari for 15 years now  ::) ::)

And you can even make "memorable" RT with Atari ST games for instance:

RT UK - > France (I was a little bit worried at the customs  ;D)

Yeah, I used to be member of the Level 42 e-mail digest (which was great) and we did a number of fan projects. One of them was converting the Guaranteed Live video from Laserdisc to DVD....which was the best we can do I bet (at least better than VHS). The sound is awesome because it was digital. Excellent concert by the way and it has my favorite rendition of Children Say with the long out-tro....

A project that I did was Dreams & Visions. This was a VCD (DVD's was too expensive rare for that time still !) with a compilation of videos that were never officially released but that we had in one way or the other. Most had VHS as source, but some were promo tapes from the record company so pretty good quality. I reworked the video as good as possible at the time, and completely replaced the audio where possible with CD sourced audio. Sometimes a real challenge because often videos have edits that are not on any regularly released album/single.

I also made nice moving menu's, which was pretty advanced for a VCD at the time it was a lot of work but also a lot of fun to do. I even added two Easter eggs :)

Take a look here if you're interested: http://forevernow.com/music/digest/dreamsvisions.shtml

Yeah got a lot of stuff signed by Mark and the other members. When i order CD's or DVDs from Mark directly I always ask if he has time to sign it and he always does.

In fact the games were "free".
I saw a post on a forum from a seller that wanted to leave the business, the deal was: come next week end and take what you want/can. I contacted him on Wednesday and I went there on saturday. We filled the car with 996 games (with a lot duplicates), I gave to the previous owner 2 champagne bottles and later I found for him a nice boxed Atmos computer (he was looking for).

I did used to restore Old School BMX bikes (was a massive fan of BMX as a kid and wasn't that bad at freestyle even if i say so myself)...

It was mainly Raleigh Burners i restored as that is what i had as a kid.Would love to restore some very high end BMX eg..Skyway TA,Hutch,Diamondback etc...but majority of that side of BMX is way beyond my financial reach...

Here's some photo's of my collection (a few have been sold but i do still have a few left...).It was mainly factory spec bikes i liked to restore but i have done a couple of 'custom' builds as well

MK1 Supertuff Burner (Factory spec)

MK2 Supertuff burner (Factory spec)

I've never seen RAD the movie all the way through tbh (i do have it on bootleg)....The film has never had an official release on DVD (something to do with copyright and the director Hal Needham (this is what i read anyway)

I have the original VHS Tape here, bought it when the local videostore closed theyre doors..

I also just found it on Usenet, so there is a digital version of it.

I guess its fine that i download it, since i do own the original tape  ::)
