hey guys, some of you might have been wondering why i haven't been that active lately, so i wanted to "make a statement" here! 8)
first of all, i'm still suffering from my broken and dislocated finger injury which occured almost three weeks ago. my hand / arm is still in plaster and working / typing on the computer is damn tedious! here's an x-ray of the "candidate" - even an idiot can spot that something's not quite right here ... :o
(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5199/7196304100_b281ac2a56_b_d.jpg)
secondly, i'm caught up in an extremely time-consuming school project at the moment, i'm executive producing - together with my class - the school version of the german tv hit show "schlag den raab" where three pupils face off against one of our teachers in the ultimate battle for school supremacy! :P
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7080/7196304618_8bdb3a0957_b_d.jpg)
because of that, i don't have / won't be having as much time for the hobby as i normally do, but believe me, i'm still here and will return stronger than ever! :D
-
I kept telling you Ully, stop picking your nose, but you wouldent listen - and guess what happen......
No seriously, sorry to hear about te finger, what happend?? - something i missed??
Great to have you back!
-
Lol, nice Xray pic, I didn't know that there are 3 separate bones in that finger. ;D
Btw. we didn't realize that you are not here.
Seriously, I hope you get well soon and that school project will turn out great. ;)
-
Ouch... Hope your feel better asap!
That will be sore & sensitive for a long time. :(
-
get well soon Ully!
Did doctor mad checked out your finger ? :D

Gute Besserung, Ully!! :)
-
That looks like a Galaga-thumb to me !
Hope you get well soon !!

Maybe you can include some 'arcade stuff', somewhere in the background of this project? ;) As executive producer, you have the right to decide that :D
Hope you'll feel better very soon.

honestly, i've been thinking about putting an arcade cab in there and have them play it in front of the crowd (200+ people). the problem is that we would need a camera to get the picture on a giant screen. right now we're working on some kind of GIANT PONG which they have to play against each other, but we don't know how to do this yet ...
-
Simple..
Take this :
and this :
And maybe a old vcr to turn the RF signal into component video ;)
-
We've done this in an event 8)
Easy setup... a projector, a 'cinch' cable(video composite signal) a XinOne joystick (working on battery), like the Atari or Namco one
... and let's start the fun 'in public' :)
8)
-
That will give a shitty looking picture though. <edit, I mean Etiennes idea>
Better solution would be to get an Atari 2600 modded by Mr. Atari (or buy a ready modded one from him) so you have a composite video output and hook that directly into the beamer.
http://www.atari-shop.nl/avmod.htm
And for the controls you hack a pair of Atari paddles into something cool and big, it's just some pots :)
-
Oh, and dont try to find a Pong cartridge for the 2600, it's called Video Olympics :)
I think it is possible to play 4 player if you have two sets of paddels. (One set connects to one joystick port)
Mmmm, cant remember there was an official Pong for the Atari 8 bit machines. With an 800 in theory you could play 8 player games because it has 4 joystick ports :)
-
we want to have something more "active", where the players have to run back and forth to activate the controls, not just stand in one spot and move the paddles. we have to think in bigger terms, because we have a huge audience watching from the spectator seats from afar ... ACTION BABY!!!
-
I helped make the worlds biggest tetris for a tv shoot, we used an emulator to get a decent output image, we used touch sensitive pads from Maplins hacked into a PC joystick, pretty cheap and easy to make and it looked good too, with one person shouting instructions and four people on control pads it made for a fun and exciting game, the person shouting instructions gets really hyper excited, fun to watch and simple to do, but more about communication than a physical challenge in this case :spaceace:
-
Again super creative.. ;D
Change the potmeters for this kind of potmeters :
Add some strip with teeth and gears with difference sizes and attach a rope which they have to run with to move the paddles ;D
(http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/scenario/labman1/pulley1.gif)
i hope you get my principle... ;)
Or some sort of giant pivot system:
(could be with the slider pot, or just the beam attached on the potmeter at the pivot point.)
-
LOL, I thought exactly the same idea, but I also had another.
Howe about turning a capstan into a gigantic pot meter:
You know, these are the things they use on big sail ships to raise the anchor etc.
It will be hilarious to see 4 guys or so trying to "turn the pot", they will need extreme coordination ! :D
The biggest problem is likely to make a good stop at the end and beginning of the pot range because 4 man will easy run "through" the pots mechanical limit....
-
Or maybe something can be done with this:
It's one of those "barrels" that you have to run on while you support yourself with your arms. Would be hilarious to see them go nuts both ways to move the paddles......
Make a wheel that touches the barrel and turns the pot. Make it so it can slide over the barrel when it reaches one of the end-points....
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Or even crazier:
You see.....ideas enough for crazy stuff ;D ;D ;D
-
Those "speeltuin" items sure bring back memories Andre !
Makes me realise that almost all of the playgrounds that we used to go to are not existing anymore..
Exept for this one :

Sorry for derailing again...
-
would be a fabulous idea to power it like that, but i'm afraid my pupils and i i can't figure out how to do that. i might have to ask some oher teachers for help! keep the ideas coming, guys, one arcade game somehow has to be in there!
-
I do think all ideas would need a very slow version of pong.....the motion simply can't be fast enough to play a regular pong game...aye Video Olympics has a kiddy setting, although I think they only started including these much later in their games.
-
Or attach a dynamo to the wheel and let the runners "power" the game ;D

Yeah yeah yeah, Yar's Revenge !!!! One of the best games on the 2600 ;D

bad news, guys: today at around noon i was involved - or to be more precise - i caused a traffic accident in which my car was destroyed beyond repair. fortunately, neither the other driver nor myself was badly injured during the accident, just some bruises and some back pain. after being on the road for tens of thousands of kilometers, the accident happened in my home town at a spot which i pass every single day. well, stuff like that happens unfortunately and car body damages can be fixed, i've just been lucky that i got out of this in one piece, this could have ended so much worse ...
with that being said, i will probably slow down (again) for the next few days, settle the insurance stuff and try to find a replacement car - which of course needs to have "arcade transport capability"!
-
:-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Shocket to hear, but glad everybody got away only scratched but unharmed!!!
-
Nice to hear you are okay. :o
-
great to hear all the drivers and you are all fine.
-
Yeah, good that you and the orther people are fine.
Material things can be replaced, a life on the otherhand not!
-
Good to hear you and the others involved are okay! Sorry about your car though.
-
Indeed good to hear that you´re OK. Broozes will heal pretty soon.
About your ´new´ car, just get the same model, there are enough of them. Maybe another color for a chance.
-
Ouch! Get well soon :)
-
Glad you and the others came out OK !
Yes it's just some metal....but still...your trusty and very experienced Astra will be missed in your roadtrip reports !
-
I'm really glad you are (all) OK!!! as already said: don't worry about the metal.
Anyway we all knew that a simple car accident will never hurt an arcade superhero.
-
Good to see you are okay..

And how did this school project ended ?
-
hey guys - i'm back ;)
everything's fine over here, i just had to take a couple of weeks off to get back on track. i've been running on more than 100% for the last few months and needed the extra time to "fuel up" again.
And how did this school project ended ?
well, what can i say, it was a TOTAL WINNER!!! :)
our goal was to make the most memorable school project of all time - and i honestly think we succeeded! THE NIGHT WAS A BLAST!!! but apart from that, it brought us a little bit closer to our ultimate dream: a trip to the usa with my class at the end of grade 10. we've been collecting money for the last two years now, taking every chance we could get to raise money and although it's still a long long way to go, we're not giving up on our dream and we really believe we can do it!
here's a newspaper article about our school event
anyway, i hope you guys welcome me back with open arms into the community ... :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Congratulations for the project Ully !!! :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
... and WELCOME BACK ... we missed you so much !!!
-
Yeah, we missed you! ;D
Nice to see your name in the news! :D
-
Super welcome back!
-
Finally!! ;) welcome back the the A-scene my friend! :spaceace:
-
Good to hear from you and welcome back to the real world.

Welcome back to THE scene! ;)
-
thx for your warm welcome back, guys! :-*
-
Yes .....already mailed you this but this forum is not the same without you ;D
-
some of you guys might have noticed that i've pretty inactive over the last couple of weeks - which doesn't mean i'm not checking the forum regularly. i've got myself some nice modern gadgets (smartphone, tablet, wiiU and giant tv), therefore i'm somewhat occupied with other stuff. hopefully, i'll find the time to work on some arcade projects over the christmas holidays - don't count me out yet! :P
-
Great to hear something from you Ully! - what are you playing on your giant TV?? Skyrim??

I heard rumors that he was about to sell everything and go into a monastery........

He'd rather take all his stuff to the monastery instead of selling it :D
-
Maybe the barn IS the monetary ;)
-
Just to clarify: I'm also experiencing a severe arcade slowdown atm but that's just a coincidence don't go spreading bad rumors over the www ;D
-
I heard rumors that he was about to sell everything and go into a monastery........
actually, i am already IN that monastery! 8)
thx for your concerns / inquiries - i'm alive and kickin' of course, but still experiencing the arcade slowdown. nevertheless, i'm following every movement closely, trying to add some games to the second container while looking for a future home - as always. somehow, frustration has settled in, but i'm sure i'll get over that!
-

Me too! ME TOO am slowing DOWN!!111
Must be a virus or something...

Superully I can understand you, I have a similar problem to my left foot

Container #1 is the old one right? The one that is full for ages now. Totally forgot about it, sorry. Which makes me think why not ask for an update just for the fun of it...
-
some of you might have noticed, but i've REALLY slowed down over the last few weeks arcade-wise. this has nothing to do with me getting out of the hobby. although i swore to myself i won't do it again last year, i also convinced myself that i HAVE TO DO it again this year, so once again i'm organizing our school event of the year where three pupils face off against one of the most popular teachers at our school. it was such a huge success last year and the demand / wish was so big to do it again that i just couldn't say no.
when it comes to arcade stuff, i'm basically just reading quickly what's going on, posting a comment here and there, but that's it. no restorations, no real roadtrips, all for the love of god scool. it'l be over in three weeks but until then don't expect too much of me please ...
-
Hey Super, where are you?
-
Hey Super, where are you?
i will tell him to show up more often on saturday. :)
-
ok guys, after being on hiatus for quite a while, i'm slowly but surely trying to get back into the hobby. the reasons for my arcade vacation are manifold, don't want to bore you with details. i ALMOST bought a house, but skipped it at the very last minute because i realized it just wasn't right for me. i've sold quite a few cabs and i'm still trying to reduce my collection somewhat further, but just a few days ago i've also bought my first new cab in a long time, it's the one that andré almost bought, but then found one obviously more local. here's a few pics:

i'm trying to add a few more vectors to my collection, so if you have anything for sale (or know someone who does), please feel free to contact me. or we could do some kind of trade, i have still a few cabs i want to get rid off. on the top of my wanted list are tempest, lunar lander, black widow, star wars and space duel. and of course, i wouldn't mind to have a dedicated major havoc either - who would? ;D to top it off, cosmic chasm is my number one vectrex game, but this will be close to impossible to find, unless oll decides to sell his 8)
anyway, i'm kinda back, don't expect too much of me for now, perhaps only a comment here or there, but it's nice to be home again ... :-*
-
Good to hear from you Ully
Welcome back dude ! :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Nice comeback, welcome home my Friend. ;)
-
Yeah, welcome back! :)

Hide your daughters, the man is back in town ;D
Welcome back Super, great to read from you again!

Yeessss!! Welcome back Ully :spaceace:

He's probably responding to page 1 ;D
-
hey guys, haven't posted anything for ages and therefore wanted to give you a little update. first of all my apologies to everyone who tried to get in touch with me, but never got a reply. there's no real excuse for that other than the fact that my personal life has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride for the last six months and i've experienced / had to go through things you wouldn't expect in a 30-year relationship. i'm still suffering from the consequences, trying to get my life back on track slowly but surely, but this is going to be a long and painful process ...
however, one positive thing came out of it: i'm in the process of aquiring a house, something i've been trying to do for the last "i don't know how many" years. things are looking pretty good, tomorrow i'm having a walkthrough with an architect who hopefully will tell me this thing is too good to be true. there's only one catch: the price! in order to make the deal happen, it wouldn't be a bad idea to raise some more money just to be on the safe side ...
with that being said, have a look at my vaps account (http://www.arcade-museum.com/members/member_detail.php?member_id=401475) and check if there's something you're interested in. i will let go of the pac-mania and the pac-land for example and some other games as well, so feel free to contact me - perhaps we can work something out!
-
You still suffer that hard?
I hope this will come to an end soon.
A house will bring your hobby to another level as I am sure you have a special eye on the basement ;D
I will go through the list as I sold some games and have money at the moment, dont forget that the Asteroids DX is parked for me :)
Good luck for tomorrow ;)
-
Glad you are kind of OK.
Welcome back ! (again ;) :D )
-
Mail sent!
Head up Ulrich, better times will show up.... ;)
-
Glad to hear from you!
Come back to the hobby, buddy, that's such a great place to be!
-
It's good to see yo back, Ully! Fingers crossed for you that everything will go as you wish for your house and all of your private stuff! :)
That would be good to see you InRealLife during the next Euro5cade meeting for example ;)
-

+1!
Beers +pixels = the combo of the winners :)
-
Good to hear from you again Ully. I don't know what happened in your life but I hope that everything will work out OK for you. And another place to live is always a good opportunity to leave shit behind. Please tell us that it has the basement that you want?
-
thx a lot for all your kind words, guys, greatly appreciated! never been struck down by a failed relationship like that, it really hurts deep down inside ... :'(
That would be good to see you InRealLife during the next Euro5cade meeting for example ;)
unfortunately the date is against me - as i've already told andré :(
Please tell us that it has the basement that you want?
the house is big, REALLY big and it has a nice basement with a bar, BUT it's not the size i wanted down there, but i can live with it. the fewer cabs i have, the less work i have to do to keep my collection running!
-
Oh dear, when we 'talked' to each other the last time, it sounded that everything was going fine :-\
Crossing fingers you will get this stuff sorted!!
-
Nice to hear from you Ully, I'm sure everything will work out great in your life, just a matter of time. :)
I was in a similar situation (maybe worse) in the past 6 months, I know what you feel.
