Title: What to do?
Post by: Tup on April 14, 2012, 10:50:34 PM
Hi people, I need your expert advise. I am looking for an original Donkey Kong (yeah right, who isn't). Anyways, I came across this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/DONKEY-KONG-NINTENDO-Japan-Video-Arcade-Spiel-/360450500386?pt=Automaten&hash=item53ec862722#ht_2310wt_1396
A lot of money but since I am totally not handy I know I will have to pay a bit more for a perfect working cab. Unfortunately, this one is not only expensive, it is not working. My questions are: is it very hard and expensive to replace a monitor for a DK? Do you think it is worth the money (cab plus new? monitor)?
Really need your input on this. I have been saving specially for this so I don't mind spending my money on it, but only if I can be sure that it can be fixed up and that I am not paying too much.

I think you won't have to replace the monitor, just repair the chassis.
The seller is Paul, he is also a member here, you should contact him via pm.. ;)
IMHO the price is not insane, if you add all the costs buying a DK cab from the States.
If you want to get it really cheap, ask Ully about swapping a mame cab for 2 Nintendos, lol. ;D(ok, I know it was a bit more)

hmmm, 950 for a non-working donkey kong in average condition is imho too much, BUT paul is always open for offers, so i'd send him one about 600 - 650 euros. that's the MAXIMUM i'd pay for that cab!

I agree with Ully, 600 - 650 is enough for this.

The 950 is ok if everything is working etc etc.

But this has a non working monitor (which could be as easy as a fuse, but we dont know that)
Then some idiot was creative with black paint  ???
also it is missing the sidearts , missing one of the original blue buttons, and the jump button has another plunger.

In general the sanyo monitors are fixable, sidearts are available, buttons; i heard someone on the klov forums was busy in reproducing them but i dont know the status on that.

The question is what is under the black paint, if there is alot of damage, you may need to repaint the cabinet.

Then the add states that the board is running and that the sounds are there.
It could be that its working perfectly, but because of the non working monitor that is also something to assume.
It could be that the board has issues.

So considering all this, that makes me agree with Ully on the 600 - 650.

I agree with that range of price 650-750€.
He have good relation with Paul here, following several bulk buy done with him in the past (and the famous Nintendo (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1911.0) one). Do not hesitate to contact him, he's usually very open to price negotiation  ;)

Ok, I didn't see that the sidearts are missing, agree with the 650-700 price range.

Thanks for all your input so far guys. I agree that there are a few uncertainties like the board working or not, the black paint (which I totally didn't see, thanks for that Etienne) and the side-arts missing (missed that the first time I looked at the pic too, Belike  ;) ).  I am going to follow your advice and contact Paul with the offer suggested here. Keep your fingers crossed  :!:

Sorry to hear it's gone :( That's the problem / risk with posting auctions or offers like this.
When I first read this topic I was already thinking, that's not a bad price, maybe someone else will get it first.
By the way, it wasn't me.
