Title: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi
Post by: Etienne MacGyver on September 13, 2011, 03:23:59 PM
Hey guys,

As you know i have done a vector of the Crazy Kong CPO (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2271.0).

Last week i was at a customer (http://www.schuerman.nl/en/about_us.php) of me, who does plexi / lexan lasercutting.

I asked him if he could make the plexi part that is on the CP, and that was not a problem.

I also asked if he could cut the holes square for the bolts that mounts the plexi to the wood, and he responded;
For me it is no difference if i cut a circle or a square, so that is no problem.

I have made a template in Illustrator with the correct sizes and holes that match up with the vector that goes to the printer.

anyway, i asked if the price will be the same if i do for example 5 instead of one, and he told me that he could give a 5€ discount on every panel.

Long story short;

Who is interested in a repro CPO for Crazy Kong ? (or any other zaccaria CPO with the same hole setup)

The price is 40€ per piece and 35€ if i take 5 pieces.

I will post more pictures of my progress later, since i dont have them on my laptop now (still in the camera  ;) )

here is the example which i did for the lexan (the magenta part):

The edges will be routed and buffed so there is no sharp edge anymore.
Note that this is without the backprinted CPO

Later more on that..

EDIT:

People with interest:

Etienne: 1x Crazy Kong, 1x "mini Vanguard"
Blanbek: 1x custom Astrowars, 1x Super Cobra

Hello,

I would like one for my zaccaria cabinet "super cobra" with cpo?  ::)

Berny

scans of this panel available ? then i can see if i can match it and see if the holes are in the same position, an extra hole won't be the problem i think..

haaa ok...

the plan is made just for crazy kong.

because I also have a scan ( homemade ) astrowars for 4 button I want to put on a sticker beneath a plexiglass.

Mine looks like this (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2631.0) ;)
Seems like a Vanguard setup.
Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi
Post by: Etienne MacGyver on September 13, 2011, 09:53:34 PM
that has a very different hole setup, so that means its not only 1 extra hole, but a complete different plexi
i can do that, but it will not count for the discount , so i think its also 40€ or maybe because it has 3 extra holes it will be 50€

do you have your file in vector ? and can you provide me the measuements you need like i did in my example ?

Hello Etienne,
Here are the steps.
Would it be easier just to adapt the same format as the cpo crazy kong and change the holes?
if the final panel control size and position of the holes is a bit different it doesn't matter to me.

Thats fine, also i saw that your pdf is indeed a vector..
did you make it yourself ?
Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi

no, it's a girlfriend who has done for me...

this is not a scan, she designed herself...

I will check the measurements that you provided against the PDF, which i will send to the lexan guy after that  ;)

to be sure, you need 1 for astrowars, and 1 for super cobra.

Bela will scan the supercobra, and send it to me, so i can vector that.

I can (later when i am going to print the cpo's) also print the cpo's for you, but that will not be included in this price.
just to be clear, this prices is for the lexan only.

I will create an FTP acces to my server for you, (send you the credentials in PM) so you can upload the scans
in combination with the PDF it will be recreated very easy.

when you scan, make a straight as possible scan and also enough overlap to stitch it together (which i can do for you if you want)

Thanks !

Time to verify the template that will go to the plexi guys..
First i printed the template at 100% scale  ::)

After that i used some masking tape and lined the buttonholes up to see if everything matches up to the wooden panel

I tried to take some shots with a lightsource behind it, but the flash eliminates the "see through"  :-\

But my little helper checked and approved it  ;D

I have placed the mounting holes exact on the template, but there is one out of line in the real wood panel..
I decided to leave the template perfect and adjust later the hole in the wood because i dont like that one of the mounting bolts is out of symmmetry..

Hey dad, i see another printout here...

You're right son, that is from another game, i want to see the difference so lets cut that too  :P

Can i Play ?  :D

It is as i expected, the full uprights use a bigger wooden CP..

Also the vanguard setup (4 buttons) uses a bigger wooden panel, but the holes are present in my "mini"...

i will measure the holes and add them to a different template , its just 3 extra holes

Lets continue with the template that i miss.
The "Vanguard Mini" Setup.

I "marked" the existing holes in my paper template by carefully pushing the edges..

Then i used a knive to open the holes..

Lets put some buttons to check it.
They have a little distance between eachother, so that looks good..  ::)

Then i measured the distance between the holes and by that calculated the exact center of the holes..

You may ask yourself; why did he not just measure the distance without the paper on the wood  ???
I can tell you why, that is because now i have a physical reference to see if the holes match the graphics approximately  ;)

And i think they do  :P

Hello  Etienne,

Unfortunately I bought the cabinet without astrowars cpo, a butcher with a steel plate and holes no matter how ...
I know my cpo's not like the original, I asked 4 button because I have a pcb 60 / 1 arcade classic for this cabinet.
I think do the scan from side art sunday.

if you want to do something more beautiful with 4 buttons, I trust you  ;D

ps: the picture we see that the screen was not the right way when I bought the cabinet,

Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi

I'll get back to you about it, i might have some idea's up my sleeve  ;)
Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi
Post by: Etienne MacGyver on September 17, 2011, 06:47:31 PM
First of all a big  :spaceace: for our hungarian Zacc collector to measure and specify and later verify again all the measurements that i discussed with him in emails over the last day.

Not only that, he also pulled apart his Dodgem CPO and supercobra CPO and scanned it for me.

Now here is my plan, as Astrowars is the same cabinet as Dodgem and Galaxia, it also uses the same CPO setup.....

I stitched together the Dodgem scans and created an AI file with the dimentions that bela specified.

and here is the result :

My idea if you agree Blanbek, is to use this template and squeeze the custom graphics in there.

Then you have a plexi that has the original zacc shape for this cabinet.

Quote
for astrowars the size of the wood is 16cm x 60cm.

This is also perfect since the plexi is 14cm x 57cm

Let me know what you think  ;)

it's a big yes for me
Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi
Post by: Etienne MacGyver on September 17, 2011, 07:36:37 PM
I am happy you agree, i have a little weak for zacc's and i know its not an original setup you want / need, but this have still its authentic look  ;)

Same goes for my second zacc which i wanted to create a "mini vanguard" setup for. that is also not original in this cab.

Okay, let me adjust your PDF to this template, and i will post the results when its done, then if nessecary, we can still do some adjustments.
I will use the measurements for button distances that you specified, since you will make a new wooden panel anyway, so i dont need to look for the existing holes in the wood

When this is finished, i need to do the same trick for the Supercobra since that is also another size then the dodgem and CK

It is nice to see the cp scanned and stitched together, I love the arts of Dodgem, especially the bezel with that boy on the left buying a ticket.

Yeah looks great !

Thanks,

Great, but not perfect..  lets change that  ;D

I have done a adjustment, as you can see the outerbutton size is 36 mm.

and the holesize that Blanbek specified was 28 mm, when i measure my "zacc" buttons, i read 29mm..
(Thats why i used 30mm in my setup)
Anyway, it could be that he has different buttons than i have here...

So to see and check i placed some 36mm circles on the template and you see that it covers a bit of the rocket...

To solve this, i changed the size of the rocket a bit and turned it a bit.

Blanbek, can you please tell me your button sizes like i measured mine ?
Thanks !

waow great!!!!

blanbek boutton 28mm / 34mm

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

rhum rhum...  :?

I bonded quickly with photoshop like that to see the result

the result of the scan is not good...

Sometimes the colors are not the same at first glance there are errors on the bonding...

I will have to change the procedure I think  ;)

To keep it "general" do you agree that i make the hole 30 mm ?

The wood under you can still drill 28, so it will be centered, and the 34mm you mention, will still cover the hole completely.

Let me know please.
Thanks

Note that the astrowars is a custom button setup that i did for blanbek  :!:

I don't know the original setup, so if you can provide the measurements and positions of the holes, i can create another template
the size and mounting holes are the same.. (6 holes from 5 mm and 140x570 with 15mm radius at the corners)
Or if you can find cariage bolts M4, it will be a 4 mm square..

I'm afraid Astrowars's cpo is higher than the Quasar/Phoenix, afaik the same as Dodgem.
Let's see what Andreas say. ;)

The 60in1 had 3 bouttons setup.

For my astrowars cpo at the beginning there were 4 buttons for a Mame project, as my first Mame cab

You can still change it, its not in production yet, and deleting one hole is no problem before production..

after production its more difficult to close the hole again  ;D

Let me know what you want..

I have ordered the 3x Crazy kong Plexi and 1x custom Astrowars.

The other requests can still be submitted, since they are different in setup, i can always order them later.

Also i have ordered yesterday the matching prints for the CPO's as described above since i was at the printers yesterday for the Alurun...

Later more on that in the other topic  ::)

Plexi should be ready in one week from now, and the prints, i expect also somewhere next week.

Maybe I can use an AstroWars as well, also feedback on th weekend.

Hey Andreas, 2 weeks have past, do you have any info ?

And today i picked up the first order:

3x CK and 1x custom astrowars..

They look white, but thats the bottom protective foil, the top protective foil is transparant.
I did not want to remove it yet, and will do that when i am ready for CPU installation..

I tried to take a macro pic from the starting point where the laser started to cut, because there is a very small line..
it was not visible in the picture due to the fact that the flash reflects so much light that you dont see it, and it very very tiny.
I asked the guys about it and they say it is because it has round corners and not straight, that they could not position the starting/ending point "outside of the cutting area

Maybe i am just too anal/critical..

Anyway, these are here and ready !  :spaceace:

Did a little test today with a scrap piece of cpu and plexi:

First test.. Applying dry.

Not too bad, but when i tried to reposition, i needed to be very carefull not to "stretch" the vinyl

Time to try wet as reccomended by the printerguys..
Plexi ready..

vinyl dropped on the plexi..

After squeeging the water out..

Very easy to "reposition", which is nessecary since the holes need to match up later...  :P

Tried cutting too, with a exactoknive using the edge as a guide, very easy to do also  :)

Its acctually pretty easy to do, i expected to be more difficult..
Now i need to find some time to apply my CPU to the plexi.

What i will do in the next, is wet both the plexi and the vinyl, that makes repositioning even easier.

I tried to peel off the vinyl , and i can say that the wet method does not have any influence on the adhesive, it was attached very very strong to the plexi  :spaceace:

Nice to meet you by the way!

we did wet the surfaces and applied the CPU.

Here you see blanbek cutting the final stage, after i cut it roughly:

cutting very carefully the last micrometer off  ;)

And the corner is comming ...

Done !, protective foil removed..

if you look very very closely, you see a little moist residue, but that will vaporate very soon

Bubble wrap for a safe journey to belgium ..

Now it looked easy with my sample, but a bigone is a little more challenge..  8)

OK, here's a picture of my brand new controlpanel mounted to the wood :)  (some screws still missing)

Really great, Etienne!!!  The only thing is that the two holes (the ones for the screws) on the right are not exactly where they should be. I have decided to drill the holes in the wood so they fit. I guess that's because my panel was a starplash before.

btw...any known sources where I can get new springs for the buttons?

Thanks Béla :)

Next I will try to remove that black colour from the t-molding. I hope that the silver one will still be there then. I will try water with a sponge at first so it won't get damaged. If that doesn't help I will use stronger "weapons" ;)

Thanks Etienne. Don#t put too much effort in this. I think I have some old leaf buttons left with better springs :)

Not yet. I have to do the bezel retainer first. I already made it (thanks Etienne for the drawing!) but of course it has to be painted black. Btw....can somebody post a pic of the screws that are used to mount the bezel retainer to the cab? Maybe I have some of them.

Oh, and there's still that black painting on the t-molding that has to be removed  ;)

@Etienne: to be honest...I'd like to have the original buttons in the panel so if I ever get my hands on some nice springs, they will return there   :)  But there's no hurry at all.

I'm resuming this old post for a question:

Is this an original Zaccaria CPO or it is inspired on astro wars for other purposes ?

Is there a vector or hi-res version of that? I could find only the version with a lot of holes...
Title: Re: Zaccaria Controlpanel Plexi

Its inspired by the astrowars art, and its custom.

I have the vector here, have printed that and installed it together with Blanbek

I can remove the holes from the vector file, but the Original is different and looks like this :

Want to vector that one day  ;)
