What do you think had the best ports of an arcade game
-
Too easy ;D ;D
-
I would say the C64 or Atari but even though the PC had limited hardware it had a great port of Frogger (Sierra On-Line!!!!)

In 3 colors ??

Alright it bites but relly i like the c64 or the atari port (both by sierra!). Speaking of c64 do you think dragons lair for the c64 had a great tape loading system ( the next level would load while you play a level)
-
On this list? the Amiga does, with the C64 close in seconf place.
But the überbest conversions were of course on the PCE, not listed though. :'(

I added pce as an optin

This poll can hardly be fair because the people voting have probably never seen a lot of the ports for the A8 system. Because the C64 was more popular ( because the guy next door had one too) it may win, but I am positive that of the golden age arcade games the best of them were not on that system....
Also it's unfair to judge a '86 arcade game ported to a '79 hardware, or the other way around...

No Sharp X68000? ;D

Most machines are pretty new. I would say the Colecovision had the best arcade conversions of early arcade games converted within 1-2 years after appearing on the arcade. Machines like the PC, Atari, Mac and Amiga were offering a total new game genre: the slow game that did not need quarters, but slow and steady progress to a goal that could be achieved in 50-100 hours of playing. An arcade port to such a system was kind of weird.

Hm, can I please chance my vote from Amiga to PCE?
Adding systems in a later phase makes the poll ... useless.

I second that. Donkey Kong (Jr) on the CV comes very close to it's original arcade brother, far better than any other console or computer imho. If you wanted good quality arcade games in your house in 1983, then the ColecoVision was the console you needed.
-
McVenco, did you ever play DK on the A8 ? It's FAR better thane the CV. Plus it has all screens.
-
Good one. Guess I did not think of the Atari 800, as I never saw that one here in the NL. I checked in on Youtube, and it looks very nice. The C64 is also funny, the sound is already "next gen" on that one. The Apple II has a very funny jump of Mario.

Gotta take you up on that one, I checked it on youtube as well and it sure looks the part. I do prefer the colors of the CV version though, it looks more.... happy I guess.
Also, I've never been into 8-bit computers much so I don't know all about them. I'm a 16-bit generation kid, and Amiga still is my main passion. I just happen to know the Colecovision very well. Plus, Atari was the enemy of course ;)
Bah, this Donkey Kong talk makes me desperately want to have a DK cab even more. One day it'll be mine, one day............ :)
-
Why not a CK instead of a DK ?
Everybody has a DK these days.. ;)
-
I have a Crazy Kong. Well.... the ubercool CK VFD game. Nonetheless, it is the best DK-like handheld ever made. Forget about the Nintendo clamshell and the Coleco table top. Gakken Crazy Kong rules! And the only one with the barrels and the elevators stage!

I had great moment on my beloved CBS Colecovision :-*
Zaxxon is an awesome port! Also had a lot of fun with Time Pilot, Donkey Kong, Subroc, Mappy, Star Trek, Turbo... 8)
-
I think the Atari 8 bit computers had the consistently best arcade conversions. Colecovision had some great ones as well but they had a much more limited selection and they were generally several years later than the Atari 800 counterparts.

We would make a nice row from these computers at next Eurocade, switch off all the cabs in the main room, gather all the arcade addicts to the "pc room" and decide it after checking with our own eyes. ;D
-
for older arcade game, i'd say coleco.
for newer (i means after 1985) X68000 is the best.

Exactly !
