I received an original Namco Galaxian pcb from Oliver and I'm just wondering if it uses the same pinout as the Midway one.
I have a Namco cabinet, but there is Midway pcb inside at the moment and I'm not sure I could simply swap them.

Any input would be appreciated. ;)

the pinout you post here, dont match
based on those two , you cannot swap them, but i dont know it
they are talking about DC and AC setups, also here:

Dont know how your cab is ATM ?
-
The Midway pcb inside is working atm., but I don't know if it's modified or the cabinet's wiring.
I will make some pics tomorrow, but the pcb looks similar to the cabinet's exterior, so prepare for the worst... :D

And those pics:

I still don't have any idea, if the pcbs and the cabinet work on AC or DC. ???
There is something here about the AC/DC conversion:
http://www.jammaboards.com/pinouts/Galaxian.txt

I dont have a clue, maybe "galaxian Andre" can help you with this ?
what i do see is that they talk about shorting the diodes to make it a DC version
when i look at the Namco board i see that the red cable is connected at the spot where D4 and D5 should be, but they are removed, so i think the namco board is modified to use with DC
On the midway board i can see the diodes, so my guess is that that is original, meaning AC.
-
Galaxian (like Pac Man) is AC. However most boots used DC.
It's pretty easy to see, when you have those two big diodes, it's expecting AC.
-
so my theory sounds right ::)

Does it mean that both pcb is AC and if the Midway works in my cabinet the Namco also has to?
-
No, it looks like the Namco is converted to DC, and your cabinet is AC, since the midway has the diodes still intact..
-
I don't know if this has been answered completely, but ....
Robin can answer this question, he now has my 'unconverted' Namco Galaxian PCB (for a sound issue repair) so he can check. But yesterday we did swap the Namco board in his Midway wired galaxian cab, and the game played as it should (well, obviosly no sound, but that is why I brought the board to him ;D )
-
Same here, both pcbs work in the Namco cabinet also, but I can't remember if my old friend did something or not with one the boards. :D

This one
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_-UA8BV99Des/TYojl5wGWwI/AAAAAAAACnY/P6aRgFUkPwc/s800/Galaxian%20pcbs%20006.jpg) has been converted to DC.
The rectifier diodes were cut-out (D4 and D5), look where they hacked in the red wire...
You need those rectifier diodes if you want to get DC from AC...

It is sometimes weird that if you enter "Namco Galaxian PCB" you are directed right back here by Google ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Anyone of you guys willing to part from their Namco Galaxian PCB ? ;D ;D ;D
-
Sent you a PM.
-
Thanks !
So, did you guys find out if the pin-out is the same ?
-
If I remeber right, it is not exactly the same, my old friend rivired something on the edge connector when we exchanged the Midway pcb for the Namco, the screen was dissorted and there was no sound.
-
we need him as a new member here !
I love that dude ;D

Taking the liberty of sharing some info that Andy (www.andysarcade.com) found out about and shared on Facebook.
It's differences in the video output and causes the games too look a bit different (in color I guess):
-
There was a nice tutorial with pics about converting a Galaxian board from AC to DC, anybody have the link?
-
Found it here:

That's the quick and dirty way....this is the proper way:

Bob has a way that leaves the PCB completely unharmed: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/adaptor.html
-
Finally I had the chance to test the pcb with Andre's Galaxian adapter. ;)
Game keeps resetting, test mode shows bad rom for a second.
It is exactly this issue:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWMoIMuw5Pk
Reseated everything, tested the daughtercard socket's connection (all fine), nothing changed.
Anybody had the same issue?

Compare the ROMs with http://romident.coinopflorida.com

Compare the ROMs with http://romident.coinopflorida.com
Don't have an eprom reader/programmer. :-\
-
Need one ;D
Or send the ROMs to me ;)

Need one ;D
Or send the ROMs to me ;)
I think I will try this single rom hack:
http://www.arcades.plus.com/galsingle.htm
I just have to copy the wiring hack of my Namco Galaxian pcb and ask somebody to burn me a 27128 Eprom. ;)

I have a Namco galaxian board, but the game is set to very hard to play and I only get a bonus ship at 10k. I never get so far!
So I want to change the game settings (the board has one dipswitch bank with six switches) but I can't find a wwwlink to the setting combinations. Can somebody help me?
I found the midway board settings of course, but they are not the same.
-
It's not set to very hard, you are just a spoilt sissy Galaga player.
;D
-
Seriously: game difficulty is not set by dip switches, it just depends on the ROM set version.
The setting at which score you get an extra ship does not influence the difficulty of the game.
So.........my first reply is not just kidding ;);););)
I'm not sure about Namco boards.....why is that in your Bally Midway cab anyway ? give that board to me and I'll buy you a Bally-Midway one so we will both have the original combination :)
