Name your favorite video game music. I'll start with one of my favorites:
Gyruss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZOLpvwk1No
Is there an option to embed video on the site?

Is there an option to embed video on the site?
there is, only its not default on this forum software (SMF), and a plugin (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=936) needs to be installed by the admin.
As for your question, i got some favorites..
Arcade:
Outrun - Magical Sound Shower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfU5eYAoIVc)
C64:
Commando (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrQuR1LHAVI&feature=related)
"Ocean Loader 4" which was used during the loading of robocop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3hRcvPlMKk&feature=related)
International Karate Which you may know better as "Forbidden Colours" or the theme song of Merry Christmas mr lawrence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzlK_JNuOGE)
Maniac Mansion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YWNTOiJa5s&feature=related)
PC:
Unreal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utHahu-8NFQ)
-
totally L-O-V-E the arract music on reactor - this is kickass!!!
-
like etienne, i'm going for the true classic Magical sound shower. I'm even huming that song to my 9 months son to make him sleep ;)
-
C64 Trollie Walley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNs64G4uxpg)
Hyper Olympic or Track & Field (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10X6cFlWy1s)demo theme
And +1 for Etienne's both music. ;D
-
C64 Trollie Walley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNs64G4uxpg)
Hyper Olympic or Track & Field (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10X6cFlWy1s)demo theme
Lets make this threat a bit more interesting by also naming the original music..
Thats Popcorn for Trollie Walley and Chariots of fire for Hyper Olympic ;)
Both Super Indeed !
-
+1 for Etienne's choices, especially COMMANDO!
and I have to add the Space Harrier main theme both the regular version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Tam9lv1KQ) and Andre Duracell's wild version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2ApTedLItk) (already posted somewhere else on this forum).
and I almost forgot the last ninja (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1VKCXnNwHE) on C64, even the loading music was great !
-
One of the best *arcade game* music related would be :
Pac-Mania (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pImmgRjJaA4) :pac:
-
not arcade but from the NES and imo still the best music themes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPkhhLC1tf8
Duck Tales, The Moon theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgIaFz-tFTc&feature=related
Mega Man 2, Wood Man theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHDF7iqY7VY&feature=related
Mega Man 2, Flash Man theme (after 45 sec.)

Outside arcade:
Not from a game, but by FAR my favorite Atari 8-bit song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiX8Ba2L4u0
(this is faster than I'm used to though, the Euro 50 Hz Atari's played this slower...)
Esp. the part from 1.09 was impressive at those days ! :)
I still love a load of Mario music, IMHO still some of the best in the business..
Arcade related...hmmm, that's hard but I think it's the Ms.Pac intermissions Act 1 & 2. (3 was a real disappointment IMHO)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzZysHkdC6U
As you guys know I love BASS and this has about the BASS sound in any arcade music....only the real hardware and the real cab produce exactly the right "feeling" and sound.... ! :)
Also the "pop" sound is EPIC...
Act 2, the chase is my favorite, followed by Act 1. Act 3 is a real disappointment both musically and the animation itself lacks the "surprises" of the first two acts...
-
I think the best 8-bit music ever is the Sonic 1+2 for Game Gear tracks.
IMO they are way beyond the much slower pace 16-bit over-stylized versions. Also the tunes are more catchy.
Katamari OST's are also beyond coolness.
So far my ADHD choices.
More relaxing stuff I like:
- Golden Axe tracks,
- Darius II
- Donkey Kong Country
-
if you go with 8 bit computers, i love the skate or die title music on c64 and and internationnal karate
-
Oh, i forgot one very cool one..
C64's Maniac Mansion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YWNTOiJa5s&feature=related)
-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTrscZyvPrM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTrscZyvPrM)
-
PC:
Unreal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utHahu-8NFQ)
I expected this Unreal demo from 1993.
I have to say, your track MUST be inspired by this work I expected:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbyu3DJgD2I
It was made by the gods of the demo scene in the early nineties.

I only played SOTB on the Atari Lynx and although I think it was the best looking game on the platform, it sucked COMPLETELY, because it was the buggiest game I've ever seen on the platform too !

Well, since we're talking games/music here I'll do another plug for Electroid's great CD Rebuilt:
http://www.electroidmusic.com/

Some great songs on there built on themes/sounds of some great videogames...
If you order, tell me I sent you and Sam may be so kind to send you a couple of bonus tracks (ask for the great Ms.Pac remix !)
By the way, it's only 12 USD INCLUDING world-wide shipping...

Do you know which version of Xenon Megablast continues music during play? I have a version that only plays the famous tune at the title screen.

As far as I know it was an option, selectable before starting a game. If you leave music on it will continue playing during gameplay.
All the versions I have both 1 and 2 disks are like that.

Double Dragon - arcade version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1136QL5RWk Classic!

Not really a music but a sound FX on the C64 that really scared me to death back then.
You're alone in your room, it's late, you're not supposed to play videogames after midnight.
Suddenly, after the (endless) loading time of the game (on tape of course) a distorted monster voice SUPER LOUDLY screams the name of the game...
CHIMERA! CHIMERA!
Check it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEk-eKxgRyU) at 44'.

Thanks Béla... and even if you're warned it still works!
I'm like petrified in my chair atm after hearing that voice from the past... ;)

Libble Rabble has some great music.
A.P.B. has some great tunes in it - love the High Score Table song. Had to be the first arcade game to simulate a Hammond B-3 organ :D
I must say, U.S. Classic golf actually has some really great music in it
