Here we goooooooooooo ;D
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_-UA8BV99Des/TVRd6jvNcwI/AAAAAAAACMw/Pton8wmIeFY/s576/Defender%2C%20Dodgem%20005.jpg)

Both cabinets have a built in Atari 2600, the Defender is working with an Asteroids cartridge, lol! ;D ;D ;D
The Dodgem has a monitor fault, but as I see for the first check all the pcbs are there in both cabinets.
I've got a bigger car since I took that Quasar (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1518.0), but still not big enough ;D
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_-UA8BV99Des/TVRe9lQfEjI/AAAAAAAACNg/Kqwf4-lsQuU/s800/Defender%2C%20Dodgem%20013.jpg)

The guy also took these 2 old pins, I like that James Bond:

If you can take a closer look at the Defender's cp it has an extra joystick on the right, but the cabinet is in great condition, sidearts are almost perfect, bezel and marquee are mint without any scratch.
The Dodgem's marquee unfortunately has a horizontal crack, otherwise it's also nice and it's a super rare Zaccaria! ;D

Ooh, Skoda Octavia wins over Ford Focus here....  ;D

But I always have to put the cabs on their side because of the relative low entry....

GREAT CATCH by the way you lucky b..... :)

You must have pleased the arcade gods by rescuing some of those cabs from that "warehouse" a while ago.....

And two free 2600's to boot ! ;)

That joystick is hacked in pretty badly on that Defender, but nothing that can't be restored....

Dodge'm is really a classic for me, I remember playing it (or one of the other likewise games) in the late 70's....and another Zaccy for your collection !!!

Maby some new pictures of the beast is in order??  :) :)

There are no pics of the upright Space Pirate either....but submitting pictures is (or was?) pointless. I've uploaded a number but they were never published.

wo-haaaaaa - what a catch! another zaccaria added to your collection along with the damn-freaking-hard-almost-impossible-to-play defender! just fabulous. have a look at those sizes: defender is a BEAST when compared to the zaccaria cab

Yeah , the "other" raider of the lost zacc is back from a mission  ;)

And what a mission !, Dodgem!, very rare, so its a great addition to the zacc collection !

Congrats !

I've never received a call from a friend telling me he has 2 cool arcades for me  :)
...and it's excellent that these 2 nice pieces landed in your hands too.
You never know what you're going to find in the bottom of old cabs, sometimes coins, sometimes old ataris  ;)

What James Bond movie does it refer too? Looks much more interesting to watch than the more recent ones...
Octopussy (8 pussys ) perhaps?

+1, I also uploaded tons of pics, but none of them were published. :-\
I will go back this morning for the Dodgem, more pics coming soon. ;)
To be honest, for the first time, I thought it's an early April 1 joke when I got that call, if you can take a look at my  vaps profile (http://www.arcade-museum.com/members/member_detail.php?member_id=416594), you can see, that these 2 games are in the top of my wanted list (alphabetical). ;D
Now the harder part follows, I will have to get these machines work somehow. ::)

the James Bond movie which inspired this pinball is The Spy Who Loved Me (I see Jaws and divingsuits  )

And what looks like the top of a Lotus Esprit.

That pinball was a major flop, it used an unusual system of timing the game instead of a number of fixed balls, you earned extra time through various actions.

I have a Pink Panther pinball that was a conversion kit for James Bond pinballs due to it bombing.

WoW Bela! A Defender! And you still have the (almost) COMPLETE pcb inside there! (only the PSU i missing but can be substituted with a switching PSU)

EDIT: maybe the one on the bottom IS indeed the original PSU!!

Duh, you guys manage to take a HUGE decision about introducing toll for foreigners (read Dutch-men) on the roads without having an official government. At least over here we have the decency to not take any major decisions when there is no official government...

Yeah, your government screws up the finances, and we can pay for it....

But uhm, what do you guys get for a message when you try to look up that video I linked ?

It's just a music video of the famous La Bomba song...oh-my god, the word "sexy" is in there, is that the reason for blocking it ?
Or is it the gorgeous Bolivian women dancing a bit sensual (decently clothed though)....

as far as i can tell from the pictures, everything seems to be there. however, it looks as if on the picture above one of the connector is NOT connected. i'm talking about the board in the middle and there the connector on the left). a connector with black & white wires needs to go in there. i can see the wires on your picture, but i can't see the connector? is it plugged in somewhere else or is it just dangling around? please take some closeup pictures of the individual boards so that i can compare.

first of all, however, i would remove that atari 2600 - as hilarious as it is, but it needs to go. then order a replacement overlay from arcadeshop.com along with a williams joystick rebuild kit. look for a williams joystick on ebay.com or ask around if someone has one and once you've gathered all of that, you're good to go. i'm pretty sure you'll have this up and running soon!

take the pics - i'll give you as much input as i can!

Nah, that's the batteries holder !!  Examine the PCB around it (both sides !!!) for any blue-greenish stuff....if it's there, it needs to get the "white vinegar" treatment !

Highly recommended to desolder the entire thing and get rid of it. Then install a battery hack (like the one I did for Ully).

And this, my good friend:

is a TV chassis !!!  ;D ;D ;D

I'm quite sure about this because of the two metal "boxes" on the left-side. Those contain the tuner part of the TV (the metal cover is for shielding off the circuits from any interference).

Nice old-fashioned hack there HAHA ! Only trouble is that the 2600 could be connected through the antenna input, and that's not going to work with an arcade game....(RGB output).....

That Defender had connector problems (see the soldering) very common on Williams games.

those are no fuse holders, but battery holders ;) and you can be happy, because the batteries have been removed. nevertheless, check the board around the holders for any acid damage and if there's none, ask andré to give you instructions on how to solder on a hi-score battery - or "rent" him to do it in person ;D

EDIT: andré, you were quicker - but we both wrote exactly the same thing :P

I found a nice joystick here (http://cgi.ebay.com/Defender-Joystick-Williams-NOS-Arcade_W0QQitemZ190499594453QQcategoryZ13718QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7064356210953087095), but USA shipping only :'(

looks like everything is there, you only need the stick (but check those metal parts for wear, because most of them have been abused because of the stupid two-direction joystick. speaking of which, ask someone from the forum (an american guy) to get and ship it for you)!

The Dodgem looks like it doesn't have the original monitor - guessing the op converted it to run the 2600 in colour. Is it missing the game board as well? Rumour is that it's the same or almost the same as "The Invaders" PCB that's more common to get hold of. Likely the monitor is the same as The Invaders also. There's another rumour that a player selectable Dodgem/The Invaders dual game exists.

Cool!

Paul.

Unfortunately there is no pcb in it. :(
I'm not sure, but as Dodgem is a copy of Head On, maybe it has to be something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/HEAD-BOARD-/270705715592?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f07516988)
I've got an Inavders pcb from Andysarcade today, I will compare those. ;)

"The Invaders" is completely different to the Sega/Taito/Midway 8080 CPU based Space Invaders platform. It's a small 2650 CPU based PCB.

ok bela, i've just checked your defender pictures and compared them to my machine. everything seems to be exactly like it is supposed to be. so remove that atari 2600, solder in a battery and give it a try. hell, you can even give it a try without the battery to find out what's happening ...

Andy Welburn (P-Man) might be able to help you out with a set of Dodgem ROMS to swap in - drop him an email and ask if it is a straight ROM swap and if he can burn some EPROMS for you for it.

don't know how the monitor is connected. it should get its power from the power supply (probably around 120 volts). And of course the pcbs need to be connected to the monitor as well, don't know where that connector is. Perhaps you could post another picture of the monitor chassis ...

I did what Ully advised, removed that Atari 2600 and connected the pcb back to the monitor chassis.
The neckboard looks a bit strange to me, I think it's some kind of a hack.

After I connected the neckboard back to the monitor, I switched on the beast and took 2 steps back :D
I've heard some starting signals from the game, but only this appeard on the screen:

I put the machine in front of a big mirror and started to adjust the pots, all of them seemed to be working (colors, screen positioning, focus), but nothing more happened.

I also tried to adjust that big black pot (I guess it's the monitor sync), the running lines stoped, but nothing more
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_-UA8BV99Des/TWZmSffUK6I/AAAAAAAACYQ/sStMz4-OlPo/s800/Defender%20Issue%20010.jpg)
Here is a video:

Is it a pcb or monitor problem?

O-my-god......I've seen some hacks, but this beats about everything !!!

That you even have the guts to power that up !!!

And it actually gives a picture too !!!!

The problem is 100% a sync problem, but ......holy macerony are you serious you want to keep it running like this ?

I think they put a different tube in that cab, one with a different neck-pin configuration.
That's why they used that extra neck-board.

BUT you lucky devil seem to have a working Defender PCB set there !! Afaik it is first showing the red/orange "rug" patterns (tests) and then seems to go to the atract screen....

You say the running lines stopped but on the video I still see a sync problem... ?

From vague memory, I thought Defender outputs V/H split sync and in converted cabs I've seen the monitor sync boards hacked to accept the more usual composite sync. Thus, you may need repair the sync board back to original. The schematic for the monitor is available online for comparison.

That is indeed one super hack job on the neck board. Plan on fixing that :)

I checked Bruno's Defender topic here (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=107.0) and I think the monitor and the chassis are original, just they hacked a second rounded neckboard between the original and the tube.
Edit:I double checked it and I'm not sure about the tube, it could be a replacement.

Dont forget to discharge...

Why ? There is no need to discharge the CRT if you are getting out the monitor COMPLETE by handling it by the FRAME.

The ONLY time you will have to discharge is when you are going to separate the CRT from the chassis. All the other stories are BUZZ...and it's starting to annoy me a bit.

(OK, if, while removing a complete monitor you plan to stick your finger (or any other delicate part of your body) under the anode cup, then yes, it would be better to first discharge).

He is writing that he will remove IT tomorrow

That was a response on the message that Ully posted, wich is clearly talking about a Chassis, and not the complete monitor, so i assumed he is going to take out the chassis tomorrow, and in that case he will remove the anode cup, so an extra security warning is not too bad if you ask me...

just my 2 cents..

He started to repair video games and  pinballs in the 80's, he is a sorcerer but very busy, everybody wants him. ;D
He didn't do anything with that neckboard, just he was battling for breath when he saw it. ;D
He told me that the original was broken (cracked) and they hacked it with an Orion TV neckboard, that causes the minor vibration.
I will replace the cpo and also order a joystick rebuild kit of course, just have to wait until next month. ;)
Congrats !!! Great job !

And someone put a 2600 in it......can you believe it ?
I still can't belive it, but that's make it an unique arcade lifestyle story. ;D ;D ;D

Nice that you think of me, but i pass for 3 reasons
1. 511,8 km for just the bezel and the CPO...
2. already 7 bids and the price is climbing
3. it would be a crime to ditch the rest and only keep the CPO and bezel...

If someone wants to grab it, and does not need the bezel and CPO, then i am willing to throw in 50€ for that ;)

Went for 194, I placed  a bid from 250 eur in the last 30 sec, but the seller didn't accepted offers from outside Germany, damn. :-[ :'(
I think he could sell it for much more without this silly option.

Yes, the cp plexi on mine is broken and has a lot of serious cigs, if I could find a nice one, I would make one from the 2 and I would sell the other to a friend of mine, who insulting me all the time to sell him my Vanguard. ;D
This one on ebay was really nice and had the original Zacc joystick, which is also rare nowadays. :-\

Lol, maybe I already owe him one more, because the forwarding company that takes the Space Pirate home called me 15 minutes ago, that they pick up the cab in the afternoon, so I made a big rush and a lot of hassle for him for today. ::)

i need to replace those rams on my defender as well - and have to check the battery. for some strange reason it's draining power extremely fast!

congratulations on having the defender up and runinng, i wish i had a repair guy around here as well.

Ully, you should check the diodes on the board: if it's draining the battery fast (you have a battery hack if i remember well) there's more likely an "almost"  ;D short somewhere... i bet it's a diode  ;)

Great machine Bela!

On which board did I install the battery mod Ully, it was Joust 2 right ?

Is that still OK ?

You did the battery mod on J2 AND on Defender. Remember that we had problems with the J2 battery drainage as well? Haven't checked it in a while because it's at my mom's place. Will have to get an up-to-date reading at the weekend to see where it stands ... I'll keep you posted.

I did use the correct diodes right ? Those special one's (glass-type)....

It's working absolutely fine on my Berzerk, but then again, that one is powered on every once in a while.....not that long though...I think the battery is doing it's work 95% of the time...

diodes? didn't you just solder on a battery along with some wires?

you replaced a diode on the J2 after the battery was draining so fast - but as i've said i haven't turned it on in a while because it's not up in my apartment ... will check at the weekend!

back with battery results:

Joust 2 is down to 0.040 volts (basically totally empty), i didn't have the cabinet turned on a lot over the last year because it's at my mother's place, probably not more than half an hour!

Defender is down to 0.140 volts, i replaced the battery only a couple of weeks ago.

is it safe to say that the installed battery mod is not working as it should? but perhaps we should not discuss it here ...

don't worry, andré, we'll hopefully get there. honestly, i can't remember what you did, it just looked cool :) 8). i found this bob roberts site (http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/wmsbatt.html). it that what you did? did you also use a wire?

Yep, that's exactly what I did.

Maybe stupid, but what kind of (brand) batteries did you use. I know there are extremely cheap Chinese one's on the market that suck....
