Title: Joust: is this machine original?
Post by: baritonomarchetto on June 18, 2010, 07:24:35 PM
Hi all,

i have the opportunity to buy a joust, here... in Italy  :D

I only have three photoes taken by the seller, but i cannot state if the machine is original or a good copy...

The only things i can state ATM are:

- the cab is in good shape
- the CPO artwork is a little used (is it original? it looks different from the images i can find on the net  :-\)
- some wood work has been done internally
- at some point in it's life, it was converted to a joust 2 (the monitor is vertical, but it should be horizontal)

The cab doesn't work, but the seller says that only the wirnig and the power supply should be changed...

Well if the Joust 2 board still works you could make Ully a happy man with it.

I'd definitely convert it back to an original Joust using this:
http://www.jrok.com/hardware/wsf/

The side art is different in color but NOT in size luckily.....but it looks your sides are still in excellent shape, although the picture is a bit out of focus.
You also have the original buttons and joysticks !

Someone from Australia was once going to vector the marquee....but it never happened :(

indeed you would! i'll be reassembling my joust 2 over the course of the next week - let's see what happens when i turn it on. but in case you decide to get the joust cabinet and convert it back to the original game, you have a definite taker for the pcb!

not that f*** again! he seemed like a decent guy at first, but then he got caught in lies and promises - world of arcade reloaded :P

Nice to see i could help all of you two with only a catch  :D

The seller told me that the pcb works, but he is not a collector, so joust or joust 2 makes no difference for him (in other words he don't know what PCB is in).

i will keep you updated (unfortunately i am too buisy in this days to go and see the machine)

PS: how does the multi williams costs? If it's too expensive i am good on MAMErizing cabinets ;)

Supa, ther's nothing of bad on mamerizing cabinets!  ;D

Hey, i didn't say that i wanna put a LCD in it or modify the arworks  :D

Anyhow, do you know how does the PCB cost?  :-*

I think I payed $165

Worth every cent. NO EMULATION my friend, NO EMULATION. This means, the ORIGINAL processor is running the original software with an original hardware surrounding crammed into an FPGA chip. Plus you get a number of other great Williams games AND no boot time.

I'm sorry, but a booting screen and having to wait for the boot, it's just not how it's supposed to be..... just MHO of course.

Man, i absolutely agree with you  ;)

BUT

maybe you guys don't know advanceCD+ JammASD can make the difference  ;): no boot, 20-30 seconds to load, no frontend if necessary and almost perfect emulation (Bruno, advocate me  :D)

I'm using almost the same set up when I have to substitute a board : Advance Mame under DOS. It takes less than 20 seconds to boot.

There's no good or bad solution here. There's the solution that will matches what you're a looking for  ;) (the endless debate... (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=614.0) just in case  ;)).

Don't worry......when I was chasing my SW cockpit the meetings were rescheduled at least 4 times.....nerve wrecking but it worked out fine in the end ;)

I had to wait months before the D day... the day when I had to pickup the Galaxian Theater 8)
No rush... 'till the happy end  ;)

I had not to wait much  ;D ...dudes, just come back from the meeting with the seller and... I AM OFFICIALLY AN EURO-JOUST OWNER!

The machine is not in my home ATM, but tomorrow morning it will be delivered to me... i am so excited! It's in great conditions: the control panel is not as bad as it looks from the image, side arts are in a more than decent shape and... THE MONITOR HAVE NEVER BEEN ROTATED! The image he took is the back of another cabinet! Andrè keep secured to your chair: this does mean that the PCB inside is not the one i suspected (Sorry Ully), but a COMPLETE Joust PCB!

Sorry for the “vent”, but all those “Williams” icons in the inside, all with the same number (also on the monitor!) drove me crazy

In a couple of days you will have your tons of photoes ;)
