I would "Daphne" it instead of mame  8), or do you want to play onther classics on that cab, and not DL ?

Daphne is what i meant not MAME sorry my mistake.
I thought it would be a reasonable thing to do rather than have it just sat there gathering dust.
untill i source some (hard to get parts)
thx phil

exactly,  that is the way to go if you dont have the original parts
if you find them you can always put that in

Yes use Daphne, 100% accurate  ;) And it can emulate the Atari euro board, hurray  :)
Or you can mix the two worlds : using a computer to simulate the board but display the picture via a real laser disc player, hooked to your computer (I've done that for my Space Ace).
Believe me or not, but I've never seen an European Atari DL board for sale somewhere since many years... So Daphne may be your only way to go at the end.
You may use a Cinematronic board, but you would have to transform your euro DL to the US version, adding a score board (and so modify the cabinet itself ), use a different LD player... I wouldn't do that!

Hi Phil,
I would restore it using original hardware.
If the board is missing, you can contact Oll (see previous message in this thread) or this italian seller (http://myworld.ebay.com/alisupera/) through eBay. He should have some spare boards for sale.
For the laserdisc player, I would recommend using a LaserCon (http://wood1st.com/LaserCon/) conversion card and a european Pioneer PAL laserdisc player, such as a LD-V4300D for example.
Over at d-l-p.com (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/docs/edlschack.asp) we have modified ROM images that allow the use of Software Corner reprinted laserdiscs, which are hopefully laser rot free and will play like new in your machine. Just keep an eye out on eBay and I'm sure you'll be able to buy either disc and laserdisc player. You need a bit of patience but at the end I'm sure you'll be pleased.
Good luck,

Matteo

I recommend buying a repro Software Corner laserdisc and use the modified ROMs (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/docs/edlschack.asp) in your game. Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/DRAGONS-LAIR-LASERDISC-LASERDISK-LASER-DISC-/170673882650)'s an (expensive) example.

HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm... may have been a VERY NICE deal this your, forcefulfil !!!
Teo, could this be a Software Corner "1st press" LaserDisc ?
I mean a Philips disc with the SC adhesive pasted above the original...
Dunno, but the surface of the disc......... MAH ?!!
:)
If "YES", then forcefulfil could be the owner of the only probably un-rotted Philips Dragon disc (if the seller tells the truth, the disc is unused !) ... :D
( I think we all hopin' it ! )

I don't think so. I'm confident it is a genuine SC repro one.

When you have the disc, please TEST it !
Then tell us what's the frame number of the attract scene very first frame...

Ok, it's a repro.
This is a Philips disc which was re-marked by the SoftwareCorner "chief", a german man whose name is...

Hi Guys,
I made a little progress today i put the ar2 and game pcb in the cab, tested voltages etc so i switched it on and got a "P"on the game pcb, which i thought was a "PASS"
i have yet to finish servicing the laser disk player, hence not yet fitted in the cab.
there are a few questions to ask really, firstly is the display on the monitor the correct one to show the game PCB has booted correctly?

im also missing the video lead from the laser disk player to the game PCB (video),im sure i can make one of these.
Also i cannot easily workout were the laser disk player gets it power from?am i correct thinking it plugs into the power brick?
there is a spare slot on the brick although the plug on my laserdisk player is different.
its the VP 931/17 according to the label on the back 110v

That's "PASS", correct.

No, there is something wrong. The game without laserdisc player is supposed to stay on the "Dragon's Lair - Please StandBy" blue screen as shown in the first seconds of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqA9JFfZ5aE).
BTW, Bruno, when will we be able to embed Youtube videos in this forum?  ;)

Yes, there's a three pin connector on the Atari power block which delivers 115 V AC to supply the original laserdisc player.

its the VP 931/17 according to the label on the back 110v

Beware, the 22VP931/17 is a totally different player. It is NTSC only and has a custom parallel port to control it via computer. It was used in other games, such as Firefox, Freedom Fighter and Road Runner prototype.
Take a look here (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/ldguide/philips.asp).

Thx Matteo for your technical help  ;D
Its a shame then about the laser disk player as it was sold to me as from a Dragons Lair Atari, being a noob i took there word.
Its also bad my pcb is not booting correctly,i need to investigate this a little further.
Any ideas on what may be causing this?
I will have a look over the game PCB tonight and see what i can find.
many thx
Phil

Thx Matteo for the link,
I won the L.D.P. and it has arrived,it has a power pcb fault,so im looking it over atm.
There are 2 transistors dead on it so ive still got to check the whole pcb over, may take a day ot two.
Ordered a cap kit for the Game P.C.B. too and it has 4 damaged ceramic disk capacitors.
Im struggling to trace these as there 1uf 50v +/-20%

The power supply of those laserdisc players was a common point of failure. If the dead transistors are driving the turntable motor check if it is shorted or not before switching it back on, otherwise they will blow up immediately again. After years of running those motors used to develop worn out brushes that after a while broke down causing a short circuit.
About your game pcb, if you're talking about the disc orange capacitors that are all over the board, those are simply filter caps (0,1 micro F) and the board should work the same without them. They just filter inputs and Vcc on all integrated circuits. It is a good idea to repair the broken ones though.
Give a good check at all socketed ICs. Remove them from the sockets, give a good clean and make sure the sockets are good. I've had some pcbs in the past do strange things because of bad sockets. If necessary, replace them.
Good luck,

Matteo

I have spent hours on this pcb,but now is running and ready for the Lasderdisk player

I have here a Pioneer LD-V4300D and a Software corner  disk,My next Question is can i use this player??
or can i adapt the cab to recieve it?
I have sourced the Original Player but still requires work, lots of work >:(

any help will be much appreciated,im almost there!!

Good job so far. Good luck with the EuroDL, otherwise you can buy a LaserCon (http://wood1st.com/LaserCon/LDPC/index.htm) which is fully compatible with your LDP. Don't forget to double check the communication settings of the player in its service menu. They have to match EuroDL/LaserCon expectations.

LaserCon now En-route from USA!! 8)
Thx again Matteo
i have hopefully read up now,and am thinking all i need to do now is burn the rom @U45 to handle the Software Corner disk on my D.L. pcb
then check/adjust the Bauderate on the player, then simply connect the cables & +5v wire and were off to rescue the princess??

WOOT!!

Correct!
When you are about to hook up the +5 V supply wire, please triple check where you are hooking it up to. There is +12 V on the Euro DL pcb too and if you do the mistake of taking that as LaserCon supply you'll fry it.
Another one back from biting the dust soon hopefully, just in time for 30th anniversary  :spaceace:

They are different revisions of the same program. I would recommend version D1 if you are a novice, D2 and Sidam are way more difficult to play.

Sadly this has been on hold yet again!
i have changed the LDp over to the correct baud rate etc,re burned the Rom but yet still dont get the convertion pcb to flash like it should to communicate with the LDP
Disk player boots the disk from power on and runs through the disk from start to finish,
but no pic on screen, just the blue screen  "PLEASE STANDBY"
i will not give up on this till its working
so i will prob start a tech post after xmas,im wondering what this could be?poss a pcb fault?pcb passes self tests with P displayed on the LED
thx

At this point it's better if you post pics of everything here, to show how you connected everything together. We need to make sure you have everything hooked up correctly. If yes, then there must be a board problem.
Please post pics here when you can.
And merry Xmas! :)
