...she's mine! :-*

;D
I'm a huuuuuuuuge fan of Commando! Damn, I didn't expect to have this one because it's bloody rare here in Europe...which is logical, this dedicated cabinet wasn't imported in Europe as far as I know (we played it on generic cabinets), but there it is, guys...Commando!
I can hostly say that this game belongs to my all time top ten arcade video game! Also played a lot the computers ports back in the Day, also 'who dares wins' on my beloved Amstrad CPC, which was a fantastic rip off of Commando. Me happy! :)
-
you totally deserve this, man! it was a blast to be at your place again. and it was great fun to move the bigger beasts around your arcade. :)
i had a crush on this cab, too... but you wanted it so bad. glad you've got it now.
-
One of the best game music ever !
I loved it on the C64, never played it on a cabinet.
Nice catch !
-
Great game, HARD game
have fun with it
-
One of the best game music ever !
Hell Yeah! I didn't have a C64, but I remember listening it to death at a friend's place...the music was just awesome, especially the 'high score/entering your name' one if I remember well! :P
-
The tape version had cool loader music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=w5LqD8tQhBc#t=62) too ! "Trans-x - Living on Video" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9xBAtCsCTQ)
The main theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrQuR1LHAVI) is awesome, and the Highscore theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La9XUa4iwpE) is not bad neighter, bit slow tho.
its amazing he (Rob Hubbart) created this masterpiece in less than 12 hours IMHO!
The Commodore 64 version's theme, a "funky" version of the arcade music, was created in less than 12 hours by Rob Hubbard, " started working on it late at night, and worked on it through the night. I took one listen to the original arcade version and started working on the C64 version. [...] By the time everyone arrived at 8.00 in the morning, I had loaded the main tune on every C64 in the building! I got my cheque and was on a train home by 10.00". The music has become well known among Commodore 64 enthusiasts and is available from the HVSC.

The C64 tune has burned into my brain since back then.
I remember rolling the score on that game while my father was yelling at me from downstairs because it was getting dark outside and i still hadn´t swept the road in front of the house, which was my duty every saturday ;D

it was a great day at your place, bruno. i really enjoy those sessions.
-
Loved that game on the C64 (the trick was to use the auto-fire on your joystick when you reached a gate) and of course I adored the totally unforgiving arcade version too!
Do you know the space themed version? "Space Invasion"
I discovered it in MAME years ago but never saw it BITD.
Great addition Bruno!
-
I just read that "Space Invasion" was made because the awesome german "Bundesprüfstelle" indexed Commando for "glorification of violence". But replacing soldiers with white robots didn´t help. They indexed SI as well.
Somehow this didn´t stop us from playing those games

The C64 version started to stutter when the soldiers ran out of the gates and there was a spot next to the right door where the enemy soldiers just could not hit you. So all you had to was staying there and keep firing. But you really had to stand exactly at that pixel, otherwise it would´nt work.

It never did.....Raid over Moscow, Beach Head, etc.
Does someone remember Paratroopers on C64? Well, this was a stupid game and indexed as well but we played it.
;)
-
We were addicted to Barbarian on the C64 and Golden Axe on the Amiga. Every indexed game was a magnet for all teenagers back in the days.
- "Look, I have this new game here, wanna try it?"
- "Never heard of it. Is it indexed?"
- "Yes, man."
- "Then it must be GOOD!"

All in all, it's a miracle I became a peaceful geek even after playing constantly games like Commando, Green Beret, Combat School, Rambo and many more during a period of time when my brain was very malleable...
-
Yeah, it's amazing that we all don't walk around killing people ;D
-
Because we killed billions of people, destroyed numerous cities, planets and whole galaxys on the screen, the real thing eventually felt boring.

you are probably the most aggressive guy i have met so far in this hobby!!1

Don´t want to hijack this one, but speaking of games banned in germany: i think everyone with who had a C64 or 2600 played and loved River Raid:
River Raid was the first video game to be banned for minors in West Germany by the Federal Department for Writings Harmful to Young Persons (German: Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften). The indexation notes of 19 December 1984 explains that, in River Raid, "minors are intended to delve into the role of an uncompromising fighter and agent of annihilation (...). It provides children with a paramilitaristic education (...). With older minors, playing leads (...) to physical cramps, anger, aggressiveness, erratic thinking (...) and headaches." (BPjS-Aktuell Heft 2/84)

(...) and headaches.
-
Awsome catch Bruno
i' have found an PCB last year and i was happy
you found a cab.. i'imagine your hapiness..
let me ask you a question ? are you a good player of this game?
because even if i love it i'm ridiculous, i 'm only completed the first stage (and not at each play...)
-
Being a member of a society with this kind of agencies gives the same symptons :D

Nice pick up Bruno, was one of the first arcade games I remember playing! Used to love the amstrad version too, and I wish someone would do a Who Dares Wins 2 Jamma PCB version :)
-
Hi Bruno,
thanks for the nice day and the Galaxian experience :)
Glad you like Commando.
Seems we need to come back soon, hence I forgot to take the EUROCADE stuff with me (CPOs).
@Tyrem? Check your calender :roll:

wut? i am ready when you are. :D
-

Same as you... only passed the first stage, and very rarely the second one...
But now I've the real think, I'll try harder! :)
-
OK, let's see what we have here...
During the transport, the inner monitor bezel has moved. Also a good opportunity to clean that area...
I believe this is the original commando monitor ;D
Let's also clean the main bezel, which is a simple piece of cardboard printed
Let's have a look inside the cab...
Original Capcom board, but weird they used this kind of adapter?
Sooo... the game works...
...but ... no sound! Basic checks done (speaker, continuity wires, dip swith, knob volume...) still no sound!
Must be a PCB issue. :-[
I've just bought another board. Waiting for delivery....
-
Same as you... only passed the first stage, and very rarely the second one...
But now I've the real think, I'll try harder! :)
That's the way to do it
;)
-
Got an other original board that should be 100% working. Let's install it :
Cool, it works...and the sounds are back...yehaaaw :)
Now the only thing to do on this cab would be to perform a monitor capkit, that would allow me to set a full screen picture (cannot reach the extreme top/bottom of the screen) :
But this absolutely not a problem for me... I'm now enjoying to play this game! Far better than the Amstrad CPC version I used to play loong time ago! ;D
I increase my high score at almost each game (and I go to area 3 all the time)...
Commando rulez! :)

Such a great game
i see it's close from your rolling thunder
;)
