As can be seen when the images are put together you can see the join, there is a discolouration in the top yellow bar. Funny though because the rest of the image I could probably get away with

Yep, I had 5 minutes to do this, this morning before I left for work. I'll try and fix up the image a bit tonight but I won't be able to trace it for a few weeks

Was wondering whether I should have a go myself. I'm quite a dab hand in paint shop pro

What software do the expects here use? Are there any tutorials online?

I use Adobe Illustrator  ;)

If you have the time, go for it. I was going to put this on my laptop and do it while I am away, but the mrs and kids may not like it

We'll see

Yes Dazza, I strongly suggest you to wait for the real & final 'vecto' file, and not trying to correct the 'preview' bitmap  ;)

lol, this is something I enjoy doing anyway. I am sure I'll have some time to do a bit on it.

I just want it made available ASAP

After reading the story (Impressive !!!!) about your world record on Rolling Thunder, you MUST have a real Rolling Thunder at home  8) There's no question about it !

The post on TG (here) is very interesting  :-*

Hehe, it was long time playing to get that world record, months, playing every night.

Well I'm pleased to say I got my own Rolling Thunder machine TODAY!  8) 8) 8) The board is faulty so I need to get that sorted. Overall it's a lovely cabinet, the side art is in amazing condition but has a repro CPO. The marquee is also a repro but we already know that story  :P

It's the first step in the right direction to get the world record on the arcade format!

I got a few pictures of the road trip so once I get them loaded onto the PC I'll start a thread to show you ;D

Thought I'd have a crack at doing a vector of this    Not doing too bad if I do say so myself.

How do I upload images so I can show work in progress?

For all the vector experts...I'm using Adobe Illustrator, which seems less functional than PhotoShop, but anyway... What is the best way of getting the colours from the scan? Even in PhotoShop colour picker (which you can select colours from the image which you can't do in Illustrator) depending in where I click yields massively different colours.

Well I'm loving this vector conversion work!

Progress so far.

1. Trace the black background of the main letters

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140258227/

2. Trace the bullet path and attempt to get some color matches

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140261695/

3. Trace our hero Albatross's black outline (takes a long time )

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140263611/

4. Add some color - The red and yellow background

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140266063/

5. Lets give Albatross some features - Hair and a face

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3141096704/

So thats the progress so far! I did have all his hands and gun done but Adobe Illustrator decided to crash on me before I had saved (is there an auto backup?!?!?!?). I have found getting the right colours is the most difficult bit!

I'm not sure how I'm going to do Albatross's trousers and the Enemy's hood and top. They are a dotted colour (can be seen if you zoom in).

Bruno is there any way to upload the pictures rather than post links?

Cheers

Very good job so far Dazza  :)

It's amazing to see how you're learning fast Illustrator... congratulation  :spaceace:

By the way, Zorg & Nikos are working on it too  ;)

Regarding the pictures, I've edited your post  ;) In order to display pictures from flickr, just go to your picture, select to display all the sizes and choose by example 'medium'. Right click on the 'medium' picture and you've got the right url picture.

Right click on the 'medium' picture and you've got the right url picture.

Excellent, I was looking for the actual file URL for ages, obviously didn't look hard enough

Made good further progress, now I have master bezier curves I've redone Albatross's outline so it's nice and smooth now. Also found out how to cut out custom shapes and colour them in so can do Albatross on a single layer now  ;D

Will get some more screen shots when I have reached a good progress point.
