Classic arcade games on Dutch TV !!!
« on: December 18, 2012, 06:46:23 PM »
I just fell off my chair.....

TV was running while I was at the computer.....and.....there is an item about classic arcade games on a news show called "1 vandaag" !!!!!

Bet it was inspired by Wreck it Ralph (which it also mentioned) but whatever, this was AMAZING.

Yes it lasted only a couple of minutes, yes it was only skin-deep but WHATEVER.....it - was - on - DUTCH - TV - TODAY.....

What they "covered":

- Bonami game museum.....mmm.
- Hall of Game from Tilburg, a recently (!) opened arcade: http://hallofgame.nl
- some games being bought by MOMA in the US
- Wreck it Ralph
- some old footage, one of the shots was the famous "pan" over all the games we know from the Driester-video that Gyruss dug up (I bet they called him for this ;) )
- interview with a guy from Gamekings I believe...

It was all way to little for us of course...

I totally hated the sarcastic remark after the item by the show's host....the TROS can expect a nice e-mail from me.

The item was about that these classic games deserved a spot in a museum because of their artistic value, and aparantly http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieter_Jan_Hagens didn't agree.....

It was triggered by the Moma announcement. The selection of the first 14 games for their museum is pretty weird.
OK, Pac-Man is a no brainer, but the rest of the selection is pretty weird. Guess aesthetics were the most important reason. I do love the pick of Katamari Damacy though, even though it is pretty standard to pic the first in the row (the second We Love Katamari is the best version). Also fun is the choice of Canabalt. It is one of the titles that run on the recent independent modern arcade system "Winitron".

And a pity they did not film at the BUMOMOGA* yet.

*10 points for the one that knows what it is.

Great to see they actually used the Driester footage!  ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o

Big things are happening on the dutch arcade/retro gaming scene, and team Eurocade is more then evolved!!

More about that very soon!!!!
