That's hardly possible, the Japanese nuclear power plants are totally different (to say it nicely) than that old Russian stuff.

you're totally right, though, there´s roomers floating around that a meltdown has started, and at the same time the Japanese government says that the inner shell is intact.... though, they are still unable to cool the core due to the damage of the cooling lines......

Just read that reactor is 40 years old, 1971....

....Chernobyl reactor was built from 1977 till 1983 (4 reactors built)....

Let's hope the Japanese did a better job.

Let's hope the Japanese did a better job.

Chernobyl had no containment structure, it was an extremely flawed design. The Japanese one has containment. It doesn't have a core catcher if the whole thing decides to melt down into the earth though, then again neither do most of the ones around here either (only EPR type stations will have them I think and they're all under construction)

I'm told there is still a nuclear power plant in operation in Russia today who's original design was the inspiration for Chernobyl. There are also 3 reactors in the Ukraine with no containment structure. Politicians currently playing the voter game by talking of inspections and shutdowns in our own countries should worry about their sister reactors in the east first.

it´s terrible, it seems like a meltdown is under way.... :-[

And i´m sorry to say, but i think the Japanese government is withholding a lot of information regarding the actually facts on the Fukushima power plant...!!!!
