Title: "[Roadtrip]" The Dig after Dug... A BIG SURPRICE!!!!!
Post by: Muerto on January 12, 2010, 04:33:33 PM
Last year i bought a dig dug in Germany, and heres how it went down.

Picked up the game at my working place..

Got it on a trailer, and drove home....  ;D ;D ;D

3 mins later it was unloadet, and in the Shed:

Started unwrapping it (nice wrapping job btw!)

At a distance it looks ok, but this will need some work!

Right sideart

Inside

And the best thing! - brand new monitor!  :o

Yes! - the real US stuff!

One Island, one town, 1.3 kilometers, 3 minutes on the road - this roadtrip is OFFICIALLY OVER!

Very nice Muerto, although I don't dig the gameplay much  :D  I do like the cab very much. Lovely artwork on it.

nice catch, michael! and the american version is so much nicer than the european woodgrain style. condition of the cab doesn't look too good, new overlay is the least it could use! nevertheless: great game. and: one down in your "cab style quest"  ;) (insider)

Got some time today, so i lined the Centipede and the Dig Dug up next to each other, because, they should match in shape like the US nintendo Dk and DKJ....... but NO!...???....!!!! wtf??

First i thought it was because the centipede was irish build, i checked KLOV, and.... it seems like the US version of centipede match the EU one..:

also Arabian, Kangaroo and Food Fight follows the Dig Dug style cab...:

well, so much for matching cabs..... :P :P :P

Well.... hehe, my brother visited me earlier today, and i told him the Dig Dug keeps blowing fuses...
so he had a look at it, and a look at the schematic for the power supply (he is a fly electrician)

First he removed the bridge who set up the power supply for 110W, and was about to change it to 240W (thats why there´s a leg pulled)

then i remembered that the same power supply was installed in my Centipede, and there was an extra bridge for 240W, so he used that... (Brown wires)

Though there was a thingy blown on the ARII board...

We powered it up, this was on the monitor:

HOLY SHIAT! - lol, i bought this as _NON_ working, so i guess the guy dose´nt know that much about power supply´s! (even i know more about them now!  :D)

Great! easy fix then :D

Though there was a thingy blown on the ARII board...

That is a huge burn mark! So the game works 100% with that burned component (diode/resistor)?

Post by: Muerto on February 07, 2010, 05:25:39 PM
yes, the game works 100% - though, it reset one time after 20 min. but run flawless again after that!
but i´m going to buy a new ARII pcb for it!

aren't those easy fixes simply what we all are looking for? somehow rewarding! congrats on the dig dug - and don't worry about the different dimensions of the cab  ;)

Regarding the different cab sizes, i really don´t care :) - however, i was planning to buy some Centipedes and convert them into Arabian and Kangaroo, but then they will have the wrong shape now..   :-\ :-\

i would look at the schematics and replace the diode, its not there for nothing  ;)

diodes are not expensive as far as i know

sounds good: "buy some centipedes". are they growing on trees in denmark? if so, do you also have trees with millipedes ;) you could put the dig dug into a centipede cabinet, then they would all look the same. or you could simply say "what the f***, who cares?"  8)

He he, I (_I_) care, want the rest of the ATARI cabs as close as possible, of course i could cut the excess material of at the sides.... nooooo, the horror! - can´t get myself to cut/modify a pede into Arabian/Kangaroo...!

Atari cabinet shapes for putting games next to each other

Centipede, Liberator and Asteroids Deluxe
Starwars and Xevious
DigDug, Kangaroo and Arabian
(Euro: DigDug, Fast Freddie, Black Widow, Gravitar and Kangaroo)
Gravitar, Black Widow, Space Duel and Quantum
Tempest and Millipede
Major Havoc, Firefox, Return of the Jedi and I, Robot
Asteroids and Lunar Lander
Battlezone and Red Baron

Crystal castles doesn't match any cabinets other than the prototype Cloak & Dagger and Major Havoc cabinets

I can't remember if Pole Position matches Centipede style or Digdug style, someone else can work that one out ;)

What you don't know Todd ? You newbie ! ;D ;D

Here's Todd:
http://www.tntamusements.com/media/

Be sure to watch ALL of the video's and for the entire running.....it's very funny and looks, uhm, very American in our European eyes.

I've bought a number of Suzo inductive joysticks from Todd. One time it took quite long for them to arrive. So when I asked around, Todd investigated and it turned out he had accidentally shipped them by surface mail. He instantly returned the difference in shipping costs and the parts arrived safely although it took quite some time, but I was in no rush. Anyway, he is great in comms and customer service.

The only bad thing is that throwing some old cabs over the edge of the roof......no matter what, that hurts but he says they were impossible to rescue.

Todd has an amazing collection of cabarets or mini's of you want to call them like that. He is also the proud owner of the ultra-rare (Australian) Berzerk cabaret:

http://www.habosarcade.com/Berzerk-Cabaret.htm

LOVELY side-art, much nicer then the upright IMHO.....

Todd had a Dominos PCB for sale on e-bay at one moment in time, but I thought the over 100 bucks it got was not worth it.....
He posts on KLOV forum every now and then.
