Title: which hex inverter chip do I need for my Qix monitor swap
Post by: ckong on August 17, 2014, 10:02:38 PM
I want to swap the WG 4600 monitor in Qix for another one. Qix spits out positve H and V sync, and I need negatice composite sync. Should not be a big problem, using this info: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/spies.cgi?action=url&type=conv&page=QIXtoJAMMA.txt

However, can someone point me to the correct Hex inverter chip, there are so many?

74LS04 should do the trick I guess. Or 74HCT04.

Or 74c04..... That one won't need a supply voltage:

I am going to use a Sony.   ;)

No kidding,  I am probably going to use a Tv.  In fact I already had it connected,  but no sync.  Now I know why.  A pos/neg Inverter should solve that issue.

Can you believe that I have no clue how to read that schematic,  let alone how to build it.   ??? The schematic where my link links to,  looks much easier.

its easier then you think, all the triangles combined is the chip, and the numbers are the pins  ;)

About the Sony....if you love pixel dots, you're not going to get that with the Sony because of the way Trinitron works (aperture grill instead of shadow mask). Save the Sony's for classic consoles, they look great on them.

Thanks, didn't know that. I also have some philips TV that I can use. Will go for one of them.

Thanks for that too, I had no idea...

I found a 74LS04 hex inverter at Conrad. I also need a 0.01uf capacitor, will this one do? http://www.conrad.nl/nl/wima-mks4-001f-400v-75-mks-folie-condensator-radiaal-bedraad-001-f-400-vdc-10-75-mm-l-x-b-x-h-10-x-3-x-85-mm-1-stuks-459980.html

and which voltage regulator do I need for the 12V scart 'mod', as described by Level42 in his 'famous' BYOAC topic.  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,62784.160.html

he talks about a 7810 in that topic, so i guess that outputs 10 volts

never heard of a 7810, i only know 7805, 7812 & 7815 which i used for 5, 12 & 15 volts.

As I wrote in that "famous" thread, SCART specifies a voltage between 9.5 and 12V. I just happened to have a 7810 around and since that is not a common voltage (indeed 10V) so unlikely I'd use it for anything else and within those specs I used it.
But if you have a 7812 it will work just fine too.

However, rumor has it I will be in your area soon Erik and I might be able to find back the old "set-up" I removed from the Galaxian board so I'll bring that, don't go buying anything :)

Yeah, I heard the rumour also. It seems that there will be opening a new B&B in the region very soon.  :) Must be a cheap place.
