Funny that you ask this, I was wondering the same thing... In my opninion the stroke of my jigsaw is big enough to do this in one go. So Muerto, is there a reason why not to do this at once?

If you have a router, it´s easyer to cut on side and make it perfect.
afterwards place the newly cut side under a new piece of MDF, then it´s simply to use a router with a cutting iron fitted with a ball bearing and you´re home free.....
