Hi people!
This is my project in Cad. for italian cabinet Sidam (is one year that I'm working...)
Rom emulate -> Dragon's Lair ITA (Daphne emulator)
Program -> Open Arcade with interface theme customized for Dragon's Lair background, sound and cabinet marquee

Welcome here, spider_man :)
Nice project!
These Sidam cabinets looks great. I thing the only time I played on them was during the DL Euro Fans Meeting 06' in UK (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=171.0).
I see you printed the CPO 'without holes'. Are you happy with the print quality?
I'm also looking for an CPO uncutted for my second Euro DL cabinet project.
Good luck on your project!
Forza! 8)
-
SO NICE, SpiderMan !!!
We always missed the Sidam cabinet project, and you GOT IT !!!
I think it's time we "call" Mark (the one who wrote the Euro drivers for Lair & Ace) AGAIN (I did it years ago...) and tell him if he COULD complete the emulation :spaceace: !
Of course, please post some pics of your "Work-In-Progress" ;) !
-
Grazie (thanks) for compliments, boys!
@DarthNuno:
the CPO is a high quality file. Next week I'm going to print both the CPO and all marquees in a professional copy center.
I'll post you more photos soon.
Enclosures: photos depicting the player-selection buttons and I-PAC for configuration arcade joy/buttons with PC ;)
-
Hey, are you italian? Where are you from, if I may ask?
Would you share the AutoCAD project and hi-quality art files you're using?
Good luck with the project! :spaceace:
Matteo

This "project" takes me back in time a few year or so...
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=481.msg3534#msg3534
Let me say that an I-Pac/VE is enough (and cheap) for a "simple" laserdiscgames cabinet (and also for a MameCab, too ;)!)

Not sure but does the Sidam cabinet panel has the same size then the Atari/Cinematronic one? In other other, do you have to resize the file before printing?
Does your printer will also apply the thin protective layer on it, like the original have?
-
@DarthNuno
The CPO Sidam has different measures than the CPO Cinematronic. The file has been resized and modified.
When printing I will put a protective film

[ENG] Oh, the cabinet Sidam is difficult to build because we need to find the exact dimensions.
Go crazy with the hardware I do not really want and time... that's why I chose the easy way out: to insert a PC with Daphne and configuration commands to the I-PAC Arcade ;)

@italiandoh
[ENG] Yes I am Italian, I live in the province of Milan.
The project is being developed. The goal is to build a Sidam cabinet similar to the original.
The project is not easy and I know that some parts are not identical, for example the coin-door not be found and other details are detectable only if you have the original cabinet.
I was a child I always played Dragon's Lair on Sidam cabinet. Watching him play on another cabinet, but it is original, does not make sense to me. Do not give me the same emotions... ;)

I perfectly understand that! It's the same for me : I used to play Space Ace on an Atari Dragon's Lair converted cabinet. Sure I would like to own the original Space Ace *dedicated* for my collection, but playing on the converted one will always bring me to my youth best gaming moments.

I know of at least two original Sidam Dragon's Lair cabinets in Lombardia. As far as I know both are still fully working using the original hardware.

@italiandoh
Wow! Maybe one of the cabinet was the one with which I played... ;D
if I knew the people who have cabinet would be amazing to be able to see some details but it is still impossible to have copies of the coin door... :-\

Now I got it !
We already talked (also with Igorstellar who owns a Sidam DL) in an italian retrogaming forum...
The cabinet you played on several years ago in the "permanent luna park" it's the same I played, too (and also Teo did) :)
Then, you're SO right when you say that cabinet is DIFFICULT to reproduce !
Let me link you some interesting details...
Side panels (NOT PAINTED !!!... they're silk-screen printed)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefanocsw/5379434888/lightbox/
The marquee, similar to the Cinematronics/Atari CPO (but, as you probably did, it could be done with some "hi-level" photoshop modifies...)
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/italian.laser.games/SIDAM-marque.jpg
Sidam dedicate coindoor, almost impossible to find
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/italian.laser.games/gettoniera.jpg
The CPO may be the easier part to be reproduced
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/italian.laser.games/MY%20SIDAMCp1dl.jpg
Here they comes...
The metal rails used to retain the glass have "Sidam" writings on them, and they're forged.
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/italian.laser.games/SidamCPOaperto.jpg
An the internal artworks ? Where will you find scans for them ?
So, if you say you will do a Sidam-LIKE cabinet, then it's OK.
But a FULLY-reproduced is another thing.
-
Hahah great MacDLSA! I did not realize you were also in the forum! And say that you have the same nick! hahah
My city is not far from your city...
I can not see the link you gave me posted "la pagina che cerchi non esiste".
I would like to build a cabinet, "SIMILAR" (as I have already replied to Italiandoh).
It is impossible to recreate perfectly a SIDAM cabinet, but I'm happy!
Here I will post pictures of progress. At the end of work you judge the result ... xx fingers crossed! ;)
-
More photos of the project.
Tomorrow I will put photos of the new parts arrived. ;)
-
The pieces arrived today:
n°1 Ashtray
n°1 Glass
n°1 Cash Door
n°2 replacement speaker cover
n°2 Coin Mech 1 Euro (I will have to change because I do not like)
-
My project is finished. ;D
The photo shows all the pieces of the cabinet that the carpenter has to work.
In a month or two I'll show you assemble the cabinet.
-
New 3D rendering cab models ;)
Only wooden parts.
-
The project is progressing slowly.
I show you cab wood render and the side art files in HD Right-Left.
I must thank my friend designer Claudio F. He has done a very very wonderful job!
-
More pictures of 3D cad:
control panel with texture
upper panels with marquee

By December the cabinet should be ready... maybe ;)
If you follow the design and construction of the cabinet I suggest you visit, in addition to this forum, my blog:
http://dragonslairsidamcabinetproject.blogspot.it/
I would be happy if you have any questions or suggestions from myself.
Thank you!
Ivan
-
That will be a nice 'item' close to the Christmas tree if you can finish it in time. ;)
-
Surely the cabinet will be ready before Christmas.
I wrote it for superstition! ;D
NEWS:
The blog has just been translated into English and Spanish.
Please notify if you find spelling errors... ;)
Thank you.

T-molding is arrived!
-
It is so funny. It must have gone something like this BITD:
One Atari exec to another:
"Damn, we have a problem with production of our licensed DL game in Europe....what to do ?"
"Mmmmm, what was that damn bootlegger that copied our Asteroids, Missile Command and Video Pinball some years ago....they sure _did_ have great build quality....what was their name again....Adam....Bodam....."
"Yeah-yeah......mmm let's see....yeah, I got their number here from the law-suit that our distributor in Italy had against them......Ah, the name was Sidam ! Let's give them a call !"
Impressive work by the way !
-
hahaha great Sidam Torino...
Thanks for the compliments!
-
From today, in my bog, will be possible post your comments without being registered. ;)
-
After a long break because of problems at work, now resolved, today the project restarts! ;)

The project takes shape!

If you need the marquee I have done a good repro in plexyglass. One curved single piece.
I need the bezel just to finish restoration of mine.

;D
Ahhh good work :)

Some more

WOOW great cab xadhoom!
-
I'm known not to be a fan of LD games but this cabinet shape and art is simply awesome !
-
And autumn has not even started yet!! Great cab :)
-
For me, the SIDAM, is the most beautiful of all cabinet Dragon's Lair ;)
-
To all that love this game
https://www.facebook.com/bolgia.alessandro/videos/10153592760322645/
I have done a patch to fix the game to play correctly software corner press.
For me the software corner hack was some frame skipped forward.
Many times you use the sc press you'll see next scenes during death sequence.
Now not any more.
For those who want to try I'll put it here as attachment
Have fun
-
GREAT!
Ma sbaglio o ti manca il cartonato di Dragon's Lair attorno al monitor?
-
Yes! I miss the bezel. But Carlo send me his digital version, i'll do the repro now
-
It was like I told you during my "beta testing", XAD... Using a Software Corner disc, with both the original 22VP932 laserdisc player or a non-standard, faster player + conversion card (like in your cab), the altered "starting-frame" isn't correct.
Then, you'll have to decrease the target frame by one, so scenes would begin correctly (yeah, when I played this on your cab a few weeks ago during the RetroCampus "Garda Lake"event, I saw scenes that began a bit early so the very last "resurrection" frame is seen at the beginning of that particular scene).

Impressive build man, well done :o
-
Awesome job !
A really well done cabinet, and I certainly couldn't have done it in such a great way !
Only the sight of an expert would catch it isn't a "true" Sidam DL cab.
Congrats to the one who built it for you !!!
-
I really like the look if this cab. Very pretty :)
Great job :spaceace:
-
Man oh man!!! That's what I'd call a real beauty!!! As soon as I saw it, nostalgia kicked in! I remember spending all of my weekly allowance playing it at the idroscalo theme park in Milan, back in the late 80's!!!!
I swear if I hadn't read the comments above, I wouldn't believe it was not an original sidam cabinet!
It looks amazing, bro! I'm soooooo jealous!!! ; )
Great job bringing a piece of dragon's lair history, back to life!

One of the most difficult reproducions to do, due to the amount of proprietary parts... Simply beautiful!!!
Only for future reference, there is no sharp corner on the sides of the Sidam cabinet.
-
Thanks Stefano for the compliments ;)
The angle is not 90°, but has small radius.
Is my distraction in cad project... when I realized, the pieces were cut and mounted ::)
