These Zaccaria cabinets are so beautiful. They were built by Rumiano in Torino? Anybody know anything about it?

Especially the Super Cobra cabinet has so beautiful artwork on the front glass. I love that motif. I seems that it was made with the game Scramble in mind. Scramble is one of my favourite games of all time. Not only because I remember it from my childhood, but because the game is so simple and fun to play! I think that Konami should have used the Zaccaria motifs as original official motif for the game, although they have not.

Who will buy these games? Anybody from here? I live in Sweden so I cannot, I 'm sorry to say.

They just went for €62. Not bad for 3 wonderful cabs.

Super, thank you Any. You are in Italy I see. What type would you say your most common cabinets are in Italy? I know about Rumiano's cabinets because of the nice flyers they marketed themselves with here http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=5548

And ofcourse Zaccaria because of their fabulous artworks. I also know there were some french cabinet builders, I think Sidam? Or were they Italian? It is very hard to live up to the original artwork of Atari at that time, Space Duel, Gravitar, Tempest, Centipede, Asteroids Deluxe, even Asteroids artwork is still some of the finest I have ever seen. Zacccaria has next to Atari, the most beutiful artwork of all time, I think.

Sidam (now Sipem) is from Torino.

There was a LOT of cab builder in Italy, some of them worked under license and made the same as cab Atari (for example).
My Italian made Steeplechase is the exact copy of this http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=3586&image=2
My Sipem TopLanding and Operation Wolf are the same as original Taito, the only thing different are the world "Made by Sipem" or something like that.

The other builder made generic cabs. some of them are very good, IMHO much better than some original US cab.
I mean they used MUCH better wood then US cab.

I had some Zaccaria outside (covered by a simple tarpaulin) for 2 years, they are perfect.
In the same time a MK3 in the same place almost collapsed on itself, thank only to humidity.

ANY: Are there any books or web pages (even in Italian) which describe the history of Zaccaria?

Thank you very much, Any. And yes, I understand the quality would be better than the US cabinets as Atari built their cabinets with only a maximum 5 year life. It was their policy, they built things quite economically to make maximum profit, as any other company today does. They weren't built to last for second hand users like us.

But, no one can argue the fact that Atari-designed cabs had simply the best looking and most innovative forms of all times. Just look at the I-Robot/Major Havoc/Return of Jedi types of cabinet, or the Blasteroids and even Vindicators cabinets. Woodcrafting artworks, however maybe not as compatibe with many games/controls.

Italians always had a very developed culture in history regarding art and creative handcrafting. I would really like to see more italian cabinets and artwork. Do you have any pictures please?

And nice comparison with your Zaccaria vs MK3 cab about durability in outdoor environment. I think this may be thanks to Zaccaria maybe built their cabinets of 'lamell' panels? I am not sure that the word 'lamell' is correct in english, it's a swedish word, however it is a wooden panel which unlike normal chip-wood consists of several wooden beams glued together sideways, and then covered and glued with a thin wooden layer on both sides to stabilize the 'beams' inside. This type of board is without doubt the best panel to build *any* typ of furniture or cabinet. It withstands humidity, it is very light and very durable to impacts. But it is so expensive.

no histry but LOTS of pics from the net collected  http://www.zzzaccaria.com/

About Italian game the only site i know is http://www.tilt.it/deb/i-index.html

In a magazine I have there is an interview with one of the 3 borthers, maybe i can scan it but it's in Italian.

uncletom:
I understand what you mean by "lamell" in Italian it's "lamellare" :)
Back in that days there was not many dedicated (orginal) game here in Italy, so cab must last ages.
I know of some Zaccaria and some other mid '80 cabs still in location hehe

Many thanks, Any. Great links!

Aha! Italian Asteroids here http://www.tilt.it/deb/i-sidam.html#asterock , ... seems like this cabinet is a smaller verison of Atari's Asteroids/Lunar Lander cabinet. The artwork isn't as thorough as Atari's normally is, but it is also very atmospheric.

About the durability of Zaccaria and other italian cabs, simply the fact that they use metal 't-molding' gives a really tough impression.
