Phoenix Melody Chip Replacement - MM6221AA
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:43:25 PM »
Hi Guys,

on the search for a missing MM6221AA I found this,

a replacement with an EPSON 7910CG. Anyone knows if this a good Workaround?
Looks not so complicated.

Searching Zaccaria Stuff: Zaxxon CPO, JumpBug CPO or CPO Repro
next project: assemble Zaccaria Vanguard.

It works much like the Panasonic part, same music. Watch for the last letters of the chip code - it indicates the music that's programmed into it. IIRC I have one that plays different music tracks. The 7910 replacement is fairly common on 3rd party boards (none-US) boards.
Paul.

Hi,

you can buy it here:

I've already bought some stuff from them, very good international service.

Thanks friends!

I will try some chips from arcadechips.

When i find time i will make an ecad file from the adapter board to keep the layout for the future.

@vernimark, what melodies are on the MN6221AB chip?

I've got 2 Phoenix boards (one says GGI on the board, I think the other has GGI on the screen when you're playing). Anyway, neither melody chip works, one has the little daughterboard with the 7910, the other has the MN6221AA. Most of the Phoenix's I've played where the music works play Für Elise when you blow up the mothership and a different tune at the start. I've seen one that played Greensleeves when you started a game. I don't know what chip that one had in it though, but it was a real Phoenix machine, not a bootleg (although I have no idea if the board itself was original or not)
