Title: I would not really call it a "Renovation"...
Post by: Tyrem on October 11, 2012, 02:28:20 PM
A few weeks ago I got this cute little cab from Paul via ebay.

It was still in a not so bad shape. Dirty as hell of course, the pcb was not working right (the graphics were messed up, sound was wrong and Mario did not want to climb any ladders at all).
I still liked the cab a lot and wanted to keep it for myself.

I did not want to change too much on the cab. Did not want to paint it because that would probably ruin it forever. :D So I decited to clean it frist. I bought myself a new Crazy Kong-pcb, new locks (the old ones were totally messed up) and microswitches. I made some stickers for it and today I got the last ones for the "bezel". I had the idea to make a semi-one because after i applied the sidestickers something was still missing, at least for me.

So this it what it looks now. Nothing I can be too proud of... but I love how it turned out. My very own Crazy Kong/Donkey Kong.

I like it too, just the combi Donkey kong art and Crazy kong inside is a bit strange to me, but still cool!

I reallly like these mini cabs more than the full size...  Never seen these before!   :D

The problem is: This cab actually was for real back when I was a little boy. We had this very same machine in a burger shop in my streets. It really had the Donkey Kong-artwork and the Crazy Kong PCB. I remember it because of the jump-easter egg in the first level. As far as I know this trick does not work with DK, right?

I took the Donkey Kong-artwork for two reasons:

1. I really don´t like the Crazy Kong-sidearts
2. The control-panel came with the DK-artwork

It made sense to me to do a Crazy Donkey Kong-machine. :)

Congratulations on the nice job! :)
I must admit that I thought it was quite ugly before you did your magic, but now it looks great! ;D

Hey Gerry,

great to see you here. :) Yeah... the old ST-dudes. I just infected Jochen Hippel with the arcade-virus. I gave him my other Donkey Kong-cab and now he is totally in love with those old machines. I am sure that we will post more in the future.

Greetings from The Respectables ;)

Yeah... it was. But it reminded me of my childhood and it was not that expensive so I thought I could give it a try.

And thank you, guys. I did not expect such a nice reaction from you. :)

no doubt about that. ;)
it´s just that this project was such an easy one. if i look at all the scratch builds or renovations for example... i am quite ashamed. :)
