Title: Retrocade Magazine......many more reasons why....
Post by: level42 on October 01, 2012, 08:38:55 PM
If you are tired of reading about the Spectrum, the Dragon and the Oric,
if you want a magazine that is "by the fans, for the fans",

try this:

http://www.retrocademagazine.com/issues.htm

I first bought the first two issues and I spent a LOT of time reading about each and every article including the classic advertisements. I loved them !

From a great interview with Atari co-founder Ted Dabney to an article about a mysterious yet non existing game from the Chech republic called Polybius...I loved about everything.

I must admit that I had a tough time flipping through the first 20 or so pages that contain hi scores of various tournaments and arcades, but don't let that turn you off ! The gold is behind those pages.

Well, for a couple of dollars you get to download the PDF so no buggy app that works like *{+{% and never gets updated, you just read the magazine on your favorite device, I use iBooks on my iPad f.i.

For those who want paper magazines, they seem to be working on it...

Rumor has it that there may be an extra reason to look out for the next episode.....

[Edit] ( Oh damn, there's an article about he BBC-I mean the computer-in #1.......I actually liked it ;)

For the first time Retrocade Magazine is available in print too now.

The downloadable version is very cheap, definitely worth every dollar cent !

Is there any other way to purchase the digital version besides the MagCloud? TBH I'm sick  and tired of registering/leaving my personal data on almost each and every internet site in this world  :-\

I fully agree with you, had the same feeling when I had to do it.....

However, don't think there is another way.

One big plus about this system/magazine is that you simply download the PDF file, so you can put it on whatever device you like (I got them all on my iPad). So YOU are in control over your copies, not, unlike that other retro game magazine where you are forced to use a lousy and buggy app. I think I have redowloaded the editions of that magazine at least four times now, which is an extremely slow process PLUS you do not want to do that unless you are at your home (or company) where it doesn't matter how much you download.
Also, I cannot copy that magazine to my iMac or anything else, I am forced to only read it on the iPad...

Downloaded them all for 6x$1.79...Bargain! :)

What makes me wonder is the difference in page counts....the actual issue has 36 pages, Volume 1 #3 had 128 pages  ???

Yeah, that totally flabbergasted me too, both ways. The first issue had amazingly many pages and articles....the new one was a bit shocking to see that huge difference.

I think the reason is simple: this is the first issue that also appeared on paper...
