Atari Centipede Restoration
« on: November 14, 2013, 02:50:11 PM »
Hey,

I`ve bougth the Centipede from Psykick and arcadegamegeek :)

https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=4727

Start was

- no marquee, no light
- PCB unknown
- CRT unknown, but neck lights up
- Game controls complete, but mechanics bad
- CPO Artwork and sidearts great
- PCB set complete
- Chassis unknown
- Cab wooden side damaged
- T-Molding ok

Not an easy start. But I had in my stock a hopefully working PCB and some Atari spares. So why not, I thougth myself.

Cebulba brougth me this cab to my home from EUcade, Thanks for this! Awesome action!

It looked like this when the cab arrived.

:)

Since I got mine from container #3, I can't stop playing it.
You will have fun with it, good luck on the resto.

Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

Finally I got a new marquee.

First I did some measuring and the PCB had no stable 5V. So I took a closer look at the ARII Board. Replaced LM305 and Q3 part 2N3055. Did the sense mod as well. After that voltage was okay again.

PCB didn't boot up. So I replcaed the PCB by a spare one I had in my storage.

Ended in this. The configuration of tube was messed up.

Pics of all connector between Cab, Chassis and Tube can be found here.

Measured the caps, replaced them, when needed. I`ve used one of this cap meters.

Next step the control panel.

Ok, I`ve to replace rollers and bearings. Neanwhile I did some cleaning.

Further the harness to the marquee light and speaker was simply cut ;)

I just fixed this.

to find out that the bulb does not work. :)

And the next bunch of pics.

- Trackball plus replacement of roller and bearings

New Button in red. I`d no one in white left.

I`ve used a led stripe for marquee bulb replacement

Finally it was a very short restoration because Centipede is one of my all time fav and I collected some spares in advance. It`s not a 100% restoration, because I left out the wood work which can be done later. So time for the game.

And Highscore with very first game, 59K points. At 60K is a bonus life. :)

Nice work  ;D Those old rollers looked well used!

Centipede is one of my Fav games, I've got a cabaret, but would like a full size upright one day.
