It was around 1982-83 when my parents bought the first handheld game for us.
We played it with my brother the whole day in our summer holiday.
I don't remeber exactly what happened with it than, I think it was sold or exchanged to a different handheld.
Almost 28 years passed and a few weeks ago as I checked the new listings on our auction site and I saw something very familiar.
It was a Tronica Goal Keeper, my first handheld game ever!!!
I think it was the first step to be an addict of electronic and later arcade games! ;D
It was in good condition and just 10 eur, I couldn't miss it:

Something else, I recieved a package today, it's the latest catch(6 eur):

Very similar aspect than the Game & Watch by Nintendo. Did you have them (original Nintendo models) in Hungary back in the days?

Yes, Nintendo handhelds were very popular in Hungary, especially the double screens(Donkey Kong, Green House, Mickey & Donald, etc.)
I have a complete collection of these (just Bombsweeper is missing), but my biggest treasure is this:

This was the first handheld game Nintendo ever made! ;D

My first is this:
Astro Thunder 7
(http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tandy/Tandy-AstroThunder.jpg)
Bought it last year in Osaka. The collection has grown since then. Compensating for stuff I never had as kid I guess ;)
It still has the coolest sound FX (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmUW_hKgIpw) of any handheld I know. The in-between level sample WOOT!
My treasures are these:
The Tomy Slimline Speedway
(http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tomy/Tomy-SlimlineSpeedway(Box).jpg)
In mint condition, this thing looks cooler than any phone made today! The fake leather case is gorgeous.
And this Mattel Gravity

Stunning shape!

I never had a handheld. I thought they were dodgy compared to the "real" game computers and home computers at the time.
However I did play DKjr and actually liked it a lot, those Nintendo's sure were the best around....
-
The best tabletops IMO were the Entexes (Crazy Climber, Spiders, Super Cobra, Galaxian, Pac Man 2), the Bandai's (Pengo, Burger Time, Zaxxon) and the Parker (Q-bert). Those were very close the real arcade games, and all have very nice looking VFD displays, a technology Nintendo never used.

Watching all these first G&W models recall good memories. I recognize them all, because we used to play them all at schoolyard, exchanging them to each other during the playtime :P
But to go back on the topic, the first G&W I personally had was this double screen Marios Bros
It was the best one for 2 players ...on the same time!
I guess I still have it ...somewhere ::)

I still have my very first handheld game (still with box and manual), a Nintendo Game & Watch Chef, bought around 1983(?) for I think 99.-- DM, I played the hell out of it :D. Sorry, no pic, it's currently still at my parents place, maybe I pick it up tomorrow.
Over the years I collected some more, though the collection is not complete. I also have a few other handhelds and tabletops (Coleco Pacman), but not many (also at my parents place).
I also still have a sales flyer from the time when I bought my Game & Watch, the german distributor then was callled Bienengräber, they called the games "Tric-o-tronic" :D
Here's the flyer:

Here's a Tomy Alien Chase Table Top that I found on the fleamarket last year, it's a two player versus game:

:P

Yes, but the gameplay sucks. Or maybe I'm too stupid. But it's boring because you don't shoot anything ;D
Seems you must steer you way to the top. Whatever, at least it looks cool and works, though I don't think those red stripes are supposed to be there... :-\
-
Et voilĂ , my first handheld, bought with my own money (I think) in about 1982(?), still in my possession to this day and still complete with box, styrofoam, manual, and even the protective plastic bag  :D
(http://abload.de/img/img_3954vmx7i.jpg)
Over the years I gathered a few more, sadly yet not properly displayed:

"Wie bewaart die heeft wat" ;D (can't translate that properly).
Nice, most with boxes. Don't get the second hand pricing on G&W though. That Snoopy, if it looks nice, you can probably sell for 200 euro! Rough estimate on the whole box: 1200 euro.
Game-wise, DK Jr, DK, DK II and Mario Bros are a few of the nice exceptions to boredom, hence they are so widely available, yet most G&W do ridicule prices compared to all other hand held brands. There is 50% Nintendo-brand tax on them at least.
-
From the little I played the handhelds I remember that I actually liked the Nintendo DK's and MB and all the others was.......yawn. The fact that Nintendo is still around probably also helps in keeping the value up.
I'd sell that box if I could get that amount of money, and go buy something from Paul....
-
No way I'm going to sell that, though I got them pretty cheap and would make a truckload of money. Actually there are some more in that box, you just can't see them all plus I also have one of the tabletops (DKjr).
I simply love collecting that stuff, it's a nice addition to the console and arcade stuff.
-

i couldn't agree more ;) ;) ;)
-
For that amount of money we bought out entire warehouses of stuff, I laugh at Pauls prices ;D 8)
