Hey guys,
Long time that i have posted here, but i want to take you guys with me on a journey that is waiting for a long time...
As you might know, my Zacc's where always at my mom's attic because of lack of space (and a complaining wife that did not want such a woodenbox in the house)
Well, as you also might know, that last barrier is not in my life anymore, so its time to bring the zacc that is left home.
The other dedicated Crazy kong was sold to CKONG, and he still has it as far as i know, leaves me with the 2e zacc which was parted out completely
Time to get this baby to my house as a winter project.
Moved the zacc from the attic downstairs, that was the hardest part, 2 narrow turning staircases, but its down :D
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/2.jpg)
After transporting it in the car, its waiting to enter the house
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/3.jpg)
This will be a nice spot to place the zacc
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/5.jpg)
Installed the bezel, which has a little flaking unfortunately, but it has the same style as the side art.
Years ago i obtained a bootleg crazy kong marquee from SuperUlly, it will do for now.
If anyone has a Vanguard Marquee, i am interested, because that has the same artstyle as the cabinet and bezel
Same for the CPO, but i think i will have one made by Barry.
I have a bunch of parts still here, and in the pile i have 2 MTC900 monitors.
Lets see if at least one of them works
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/8.jpg)
I have a Crazy kong Board set here, in fact, i have part 1 from Muerto many years ago, and i have a Part 2
The idea was to install both and use a switcher between them, but as i only have space for one cabinet, and i also like to play other games, i did order a 60 in 1, just to have some other games.
A pc with a mame setup could also be a solution for multigames, but to be honest, i am a bit tired of configuring the stuff and i want to use a real MTC 900, and thats also complicated with a pc setup.
Later more on this ::)

Hi Etienne, your our hero, finally a post of a project again. Super cool keep it coming :spaceace:
-
Hopefully you can find a better marque than that Crazy Kong one in the picture ;)
-
Nice to see you in action again :D
-
great, to see you back in arcade stuff.
If you need spare parts, I can send you nearly everything.
To my mind there is no Vanguard marquee available for this cabinet type.
-
Nice to see you back my friend, great project! :)
I have a vectorized file from the Vanguard marquee in pdf and a scan from the cpo in jpg.

That vector of the marquee i am very interested in, The CPO i also have in this format, but there are 2 different styles
Small and Big :
See the difference.. i have the wooden underpanel with the holes matching the small variant.
Looks like i have some vector work to do...
-
great, to see you back in arcade stuff.
If you need spare parts, I can send you nearly everything.
To my mind there is no Vanguard marquee available for this cabinet type.
I might need a powersupply board + Fan Assembly.
The transformer base i have 2 as far as i remember, its been a while :D
maybe a coin pcb, i have to check my inventory, its all over the place.
Coindoors, i also have 2 i believe.
Well i will see, good to know you have parts available. :spaceace:
-
I have all the stuff you need:)
-
great news, etienne, i've been wondering what happened to that zacc of yours. love the spot where you put it, looking forward to seeing more progress!
-
I think Digimon is right, the only Zaccaria Canguard marquee is bevelled and it won't fit on this...could be wrong though.
A far better solution to get lots of games into a cabinet is by using a Pi3+ with Pi2Jamma. More expensive than the 60in1 but waaay better emulation than the 60in1.
Have fun with the resto! :)
-
Thanks, well i have thought about it, but what i only play as a casual gamer are donkey kong, pac games and galaga and a few others, and they play pretty well on the 60 in 1.
I thought about a mame setup, but i am too lazy to figure it all out and configure etc. and then the hussle of connecting the arcade monitor...
Anyway, i messed around with the two MTC-900's i have here but could not get any of the two correct, so i guess they need work.
after some fiddling with the pots:
So i have made a big sin... i threw in a 19" 4:3 LCD....
The control panel was butcherd together with a bunch of crap buttons, but the mission was to play a game last weekend..
And you can see that my little helper, is not so little anymore after a few years... ;D
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/pics/zacchome/15.jpg)
Anyway, it plays, and now work on the other stuff.
PS. Digimon, pm me please, i need a powerboard with the cable to the edge connector. the one from the transformer assembly i have here.
The "regfrigurator fan" is also missing, so i need one of that too with the cage.
the coinboard i found, but its missing one connector, i need to figure out which one i have, the bottom or the top..
Thanks in advange
Marquee and CPO i will make, i have the plexi already, i just need to create the graphics to match the spacestation theme.
-
I thought about a mame setup, but i am too lazy to figure it all out and configure etc. and then the hussle of connecting the arcade monitor...
YES, I know exactly what you mean.....that's the best reason for a Pi2Jamma....no config hassle and it gives you superb 15kHz support right out of the box! :spaceace:
Donkey Kong is not good emulated on the 60in1, afair there are some sound issues.
LCD-Screen??? naah.....
;)
-
I have some spare from these types of coin pcb, if you need one ;)

I think i have the left coin pdb, but i see in the manual for the "Universal type" they used the right PCB
I have to check that, but good to know you have some ;)
-
Wait , what ???
-
what what ?
-
Looks like you're are missing sync on the MTC-900 - possibly the PCB is set the wrong sync polarity or the MTC-900 video input connections aren't correct.
-
That LCD is a sin indeed. :D
I would rather go for the MTC 900. :)
-
Wait , what ???
LOl, I was acting as if I didn’t know already that you brought it home and was working on it after all these years 😁
Goed for you my friend and remember any woman not loving that cab isn’t good enough.... (man, I’m SOOOO lucky)
Anyway, Etienne and I already talked about it, we are planning a day of Hantarex trouble shooting.....but.....I still have a Hantarex here which should be in working condition so if things are really messed up (Hantarex raster monitors aren’t the nicest to work on) we can always go that route.
I’m not even going to comment about the LCD...... 😁😁😁
-
Looks like you're are missing sync on the MTC-900 - possibly the PCB is set the wrong sync polarity or the MTC-900 video input connections aren't correct.
The dipswitch of the 60-1 was set to VGA in the first picture, and after changing that to the other setting, the best i could get it was what you see in the picture
The hanta's have 2 sync wires, but only one is connected the other is cut in the harness which looks factory
So i have Ground, R, G, B and Sync connected in the jamma connector the right way.
That should work out of the box i believe as i have seen more 60in 1's on a MTC900
As Andre mentioned, we will trouble shoot it, and i will connect it to one of the known working Crazy kong boards that i have here to verify
I know that one of the monitors has a missing color, so i think thats a transistor issue of one of the output transistors
Will check it by swapping the chassis after we have one working to see if its the tube or the chassis, but i believe its the chassis
Also i have obtained another temp solution, A CRT VGA screen which is at least better than a TFT ;-)

It is indeed! ;D

Made a start with some parts..
Took the coindoor apart and cleaned all metal parts.
Coindoor itself looks decent, minor scratches, but no dents as far as i can see.
The plastic coin insert part also looks great from this coindoor.
Partially assembled, and cleaned the front.
I see that the lightbulbs are missing.. in fact the lampholders are also not there ???
Time to dig in my shed, as i remember i still have another coindoor..
Found it, but is not in good state..
Well, at least i can steal some missing parts from this one, and yes, the original coindoor sticker also 8)
I may need some other things from this, but for now i only need the lights.
Its a bit rusty, but it cleaned up pretty well.
At least good enough to apply some silver paint on the rusted spots.
Cleaned also 2 original buttons while i was at it, so they are now ready too and waiting for the control panel.
-
That's just too new & shiny :)
-
Looks awesome!
-
Beautiful! :spaceace:
-
nice work.
That coindoor reminds me to --> https://thumbs.gfycat.com/BabyishEuphoricChimneyswift-max-1mb.gif
;D
-
Nice and shining, alway a very rewarding job.
-
Digimon send me a PSU and some other stuff, Thank you very much !!! that is so cool :spaceace: :spaceace:
Anyway, was looking through all my stuff that i have around here and miss one connector...
The harness i have but that 8 pin connector was cut off :-\
I saw that it only uses 6 pins, so i could desolder the 8 pin connector off the board and solder a 6 pin in place (which i do have) but i preffer to use the original connector.
Technically it will not matter, but with the correct connector it prevents wrong connections.
Does anybody have a connector for the 8 pin variant for me to buy or a source where to buy ?
-
Hi,
I was shocked to find that these old AMP Italy connectors are actually still in stock:
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/280593/1130917
Paul.
-
I think, I have some of those, let me check. ;)

Thats very cool, i see also that other sizes are still available.
Next question, i searched for AMP Pin or AMP Connector on the same site, but i cant find the pins that are needed for these, also i never have ordered pins, and know there is a lot of differences.
Do you know which one's go in these ? (preferably a link from that site as they also have a dutch site and ordering will not be a problem i guess)
@ Bela, If you have one, thats also cool ofcourse :-)
-
The series is called "AMPMODU Mod I" and they have a variety of contacts for the series. This list link *may* work:
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/filter/rectangular-connectors-contacts/331?s=N4IgjCBcoLQCxVAYygMwIYBsDOBTANCAPZQDaIAzABwBMADCALqEAOALlCCAL69A (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/filter/rectangular-connectors-contacts/331?s=N4IgjCBcoLQCxVAYygMwIYBsDOBTANCAPZQDaIAzABwBMADCALqEAOALlCCAL69A)
It appears I've been using 280702-1 "tin contacts" (that I got from Mouser):

...but there are gold ones as well if you like flash ;)

I have 3 pieces of 8 pin connectors, one cut off with very small wires and 2, as a part of a loom.
Also has some crimps. ;)

-
Thanks Paul !
@Bela, Cool, i got a crimper for those pins, so if you can miss one of the connectors and 8 pins (make that 10 if i screw up), i am very interested to buy from you.
-
Those crimp pins in Bela's photo are not the right pins for the AMP Modu I connector housing, see the DigiKey photo.
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/280702-1/1150100 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/280702-1/1150100)
-
Yeah, Paul is right, I tried to install one, but it does not fit to the connector.
The connector with those small wires has all the crimps at each hole factory installed, if you can remove the remaining plastic isolation and solder some cables, it might be ok.
-
i have the AmpModu crimp pins.
But I am out of 8pin plugs
-
you can always get spares in italy:
https://errebishop.com/de/raster-signalsteckverbinder/4329-modu-i-steckverbinder-weiblich-8-wege.html
-
Thanks everyone, ill try option from bela first, i think i can solder them on.

Conrad also has these connectors,

-
Loooooong time has passed....
I took a break :)
Anyway, a little update for you guys;
Took for the test an old cut-up control panel and installed some switches:
Changed the monitor from a temp LCD to a VGA CRT, at least its a working CRT, The MTC900 is still not fixed unfortunatly
60 in 1 up and running, found a suitable connector in a pile of stuff and the harness is complete now.
First game to test is ofcourse one of my favorites, Donkey Kong! :spaceace: :spaceace:
And ofcourse "Part II" Junior!
Time to do something about that test situation, Received a long time ago some piece of plexi that should fit, I believe it was Bencao, but please correct me if i am wrong, than i can credit the right person, Anyway Thanks !
Also Thanks to Andre, long time ago he gave me this Suzo inductive stick.
As the provided connector only takes very thin wires, i soldered them on.
Some heatshrink and good to go!
Made to my measurements, and an exact fit!, great, i only need to drill a few extra holes.
As you can see i need a bigger hole for the joystick in the plexi.
and modify the already butchered wooden control panel.
Dont worry, i have the original here untouched ;-)
after some modifications it fits flat with the wood, will fixate it later and will post that once its done.
Kept the plastic front of the monitor, cut it up so that fits nice over the tube.
Later i will spray it black and make the cardboard inner bezel fit.
Thats it for now, oh i almost forgot, i transparent sprayed the glass bezel to prevent more chipping.
Its nice to be out there in the shed again and tinker with this stuff ;D
-
great that you are back on track.
what is the problem with the Hantarex? Do you need some help?
-
Thanks man,
Don't know whats up, I have 2 chassis and 2 tubes, but only one i get some image. (see earlier posts)
Have to check both tubes and both chassis i guess, perhaps i can make one working from the 2, but i lack the time to dive into it.
oh well, maybe one day in the future, they are on the attic so not in the way.
-
Another little update;
I printed the picture that i had of the "small" Vanguard CPO and placed that temporary under the plexi;
I know it needs a complete vector and print by Barry, and that will happen, but for now its better than the bare wood
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/update2/cabinet.jpeg)
Opened up Photoshop to "steal" some art that i can use in my vector file;
and made a start in vectors of the directions part of the cpo.
not finished yet, the inner black line is too thin.
The text part will be cut out anyway, so i dont worry about the text not beeing exact ;D
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/Pics/Zacchome/update2/control.png)
All i need now is some time and some more time to vector all parts needed to recreate the cpo and the marquee.
-
Looking great so far....keep going, Etienne! :spaceace:
-
Zaccaria Spacestation cpo vector. Will update the snapshot on this post regularily for my current progress. Hoping to be done by Christmas... new year at the latest.
-
wow, thats very cool !
Thanks a million, i just dont have the time to do it, so i am very thankfull ! :spaceace:
-

Thanks a million, i just dont have the time to do it, so i am very thankfull ! :spaceace:
My pleasure. It's nice to be able to give something back for all the generosity you throw our way. It will need some color correction and arrangement obviously but that shouldn't be too time consuming and then you'll have a custom cpo that matches all that other original cab artwork.
-
Finally done! Not it's up to you to turn this vector into a cpo and marquee for that beautiful cab.
-
That is so Awesome !!!
Thanks alot !! :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Very nice!
