Hello, my name is Patrick and ever since I bought a MK2 cab earlier this year and moved into a new home with more space, I've got the arcade fever. I am fooling around with MAME for some time, but the real thing is much more fun.
I recently joined the Jamma+ forum and they told me about this one, because it has a lot of Dutch members.
As a newbie, I 've got some goals and some dreams for this hobby, the 1st thing are:
- get a Jamma cab
- get myselfs a collection of PCBs to play in this cab
- learn how to solder things like fingerboards so I can play non Jamma boards in it
I dream about having my very own Donkey Kong cab one day and about repairing boards myself. I dream about a lot of stuff, and that's a good thing.... I like to dream
Unfortunately, I don't have unlimted cash for my hobby..... but I really look forward to get involved in the Arcade scene and this community.
Greetings from Holland :)
Patrick

Hi Patrick, welcome here. I once also had a dream about owning a Donkey Kong cab, fortunately that is no dream anymore.
By the way, where are you located in The Netherlands? It is always great to welcome another Dutchie and I am always hoping that he or she doesn´t live in the western part of the country (sorry guys) but a bit more to the German border. But until know I am very often out of luck. ;D
We do love pictures here, so don´t hesitate to post some of your MK2 cab. ;)
You say that you are looking for a jamma cab, do you then mean an ugly generic woody cab, or something much more stilish like a Japanese Candy cab? If the latter is the case, and also when you are interested in Oriental gaming, and then specifically Japanese, then you should vist the Dutch Nozomi forum, which is, just like DLF, a great forum with a great community.
So you have a MK2? Then I guess that you are mainly into Beat ´m ups? Or do you also fancy other categories, like SHMUP´s, puzzle games, driving games, or ....?
How about your gaming past? Mainly consoles?

Hoi Patrick,
Welkom inderdaad aardig Nederlanders hier. But also great guys from all over Europ and the rest of the world.
@ckong, where are you located?
-
Thanks for the welkom
I'm sorry, I live in the Rotterdam area ;D not in the eastern part of our country.
About the Jamma cab: a simple wooden would be fine for now, as long as is has a vertical screen in it to play some of my favourit classics.
You like pictures, here is one my cab (needs some new T molding) and the artwork in my game room.

I joined the Nozomi forum also and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna join their club

To answer you other questions:
I like a lot of different games, I used to play Killer Instinct, MK2 and UMK3 in the arcades in my teenage years. On the console I have a soft spot for FF7, but I also like platform games like the Mario and Sonic games (and Alex Kidd in Miracle World!!)
As a kid I played all kind off arcade games, my father had a MSX and Philips Videopac so I played on it a lot. The systems I had/ have myself are: Sega Master system, SNES, N64 , PS1, 2 and 3. My friends had C64, Atari (?), NES, Amiga, Megadrive, etc
I played on most of the systems around, but allmost never on XBOX.
I don't like shooters like CoD and MW and flight sims, but I have fun with most other games

well, I just saw the Eurocade event pictures, that's the one they told me about on J+
this is in one word AMAZING
I would really join this next time, but my MK2 cab is trapped upstairs so in order to bring it, I (again) need to take it apart.
I need a smaller cab before next time, so I can bring it and enjoy this
