Title: Anyone interested in "making up" some art for a Sea Scare marque?
Post by: PaulSwan on February 05, 2013, 08:40:51 PM
Hi,
I'm pursuing getting a blank curve marque made but I don't yet have anything to put behind the new blank. I've never seen the marque art and a flyer has not been found for this game so it's looking like a "creative interpretation" might be needed based on the existing art. At the moment it has a Firebird marque in it from it's Phoenix conversion...

I have full res scans of the monitor bezel and control panel overlay to use and I'm guessing the font for "Sea Scare" might have matched the manual:

The flat size of the backing plexi-roll would be 14.1/8" high, 23.7/16" wide. Willing to work out a trade or payment for someone to create something :)

Thanks,

Paul.

A beautiful cab and a great challenge for our vector masters. ;)

I am always for helping out somebody if i can.
i can trace and copy very well if i may say so, but creating art is a different dance.

Sorry to say, but i dont dance at all  8)

If someone makes a raster version which need to be vectorised, then i can help you out.

i am a good "cloner" but not creative at all...  sorry

Heh, me neither. Doesn't have to be a spectacular work of art as I hope eventually one will turn up. I was thinking just the waves from the CP at the bottom, the "Sea Scare" name and the invaders from the CP in the top right & left corners against a black background.

Anyone know anything about this place?

https://perswww.kuleuven.be/~u0008708/museum.htm (https://perswww.kuleuven.be/~u0008708/museum.htm)

The history of videogames is presented at the Toy Museum (Speelgoedmuseum), Nekkerspoel 21, B-2800 MECHELEN, BELGIUM (telephone: 32 (0)15 557075) as 'Arcade & Co. History and prehistory of videogames' from July 1999. This is the collection.

In the flyer list for Zaccaria, Sea Scare is listed. Anyone fancy popping over and taking a picture or scan of it.  ;D

Paul.

Ha, that collection has long been sold to two parties, one wa Marco in Holland, the other I believe the former World of Arcade. I saw most of the machines at Marco's place a long time ago and he sold on a good number of them. Didn't see that cab though.....

It's not the cab, I think it's the flyer that's listed.

I actually managed to make a repro curved plexi  ;D

The flash has made the texturing look worse than it actually is in practice, but I think I know how to fix that 3rd time around :)

Paul.

I'm taking the job!
...and I already worked on some design, let me know what you think...honestly!
(I took some liberty with the writing to make the name look a bit cooler).

It is cool isn't it :).
Chris, are you going to share the flyer you found and do one to match the flyer?  ;D

Paul.

Chris you tease ;). Are you going to show them the Sea Scare flyer  ;D

Allright, allright  ;)

The true story is that I tried to guess what the art on the marquee would be and I asked Paul what he thought of my mockup.
We then agreed on several modifications... then during a light barn raid that I did with my friend KID, the seller, a retired operator offered us to enter his old office...
He opened his folders with all kind of invoices and found back tons of pinball and arcade flyer.

We were really excited (and we bought them all of course)... then I noticed a stack of Zacc flyers and went through it...
...you already guessed that amongts these flyers was the Sea-Scare flyer!
(we now know for sure that there is a "-" between "sea" and "scare").

What were the odds that I would be the one in the world finding it while I was trying to re-create it?!
Incredible day, during which the Arcade Gods were definitely smiling on us!

...and now without further cruel teasing:

Here's a link (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/SeaScare/seascare_flyer_highres.pdf.zip) to the high res PDF for those interested.
I also sent it to Greg from ArcadeFlyers.com of course.

The side art rocks! So simple, so vintage, so old school! So 80's! Missa like it!  :-*

Thank you chrischris for posting the flyer :). It's just a recreation and the colours need to be corrected for sure, but it's a beginning  ;D

The artwork will soon be on vectorlib (my favourite).
I also asked flyers.arcade-museum.com to upload the flyer a loooong time ago, they responded but it never appeared despite my reminders.

Such a great cab with beautiful artwork...congrats, Paul!!  :spaceace:

afaik Laschek and Muerto only have influence on text and not on graphics. It would be great if this would change  :)

Oh, sorry!

I searched the Internet but I didn't find it, so I decided to do it taking the flyer you posted as a guide. As I'm vectorizing the control panel, I thought that doing the marquee would be interesting too  :-[

Hi aioros,
Good work but I already did the marquee for Paul in October.
No need to do the job twice  ;)

I only found this picture (http://www.google.es/imgres?client=opera&hs=68G&sa=X&channel=suggest&biw=1366&bih=620&tbm=isch&tbnid=S0C3cnlknPsYrM%3A&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fzonaarcade.forumcommunity.net%2F%3Ft%3D55636402&docid=_I_ZNa-CqSAiGM&imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fimg46.imageshack.us%2Fimg46%2F1482%2Fu9hp.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=6WPeUqa3DaOk0QX96YHQCQ&zoom=1&ved=0CMMBEIQcMCE&iact=rc&dur=831&page=2&start=16&ndsp=24), so I can guess who printed the marquee. He wrote in his own forum that he had restored it himself (http://zonaarcade.forumcommunity.net/?t=55636402), as usual ;)

...and here is ChrisChris's artwork installed after printing :)

Yeah, your link points this guy "mikonos".
No comment, but just see this totally derailing thread for a good summary:

Everybody can pick up the vector file here (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/SeaScare_marquee_15X24_byChrisChris.zip)
Amend it, improve it, scratch it, zip it, whatever, it's yours :)

Ofcourse this was restored by mikonos, how can you doubt about that ?
It says it right here on the webpage that he did that "Restoration my Mikonos" , so then it must be true right..

You don't even have illustrator installed on your machine.
