« on: September 26, 2011, 01:09:10 AM »
Hi All,
I'm sorry I didn't post for a long time but I had some troules wth my (ex) girlfriends and I had to move my staff... Don't worry my collection is safe :D with the exception of the Asteroids cocktail JUST COMPLETELY RESTORED (do you remember it SPeleo???) she wanted for her house.

Anyway now I'm beginning a Baby Pacman Restoration, here first pictures just for you hehe

Game is quite complete. general conditions are:
- MPU and VIDIOT with acid damage
- Ball is lissing
- Rubbers missing or worn away
- control panel rusted
- pinball target pictures in bad conditions
- scratches on side arts
- Coin door rusted
...

I'll keep you update :)

Hey great, another baby pac resto at the same time! You got yours in very similar condition to mine (technically and esthetically), so this is interesting!
Good luck.

hehe great!
but I don't restore my cabinets trying to transform them "like new", where possible I respect signs of time...

zapposh, this is a good site where to find infos about MPU. Baby Pacman manual is not so clear about some arguments...

Well in that case your restoration is almost finished. ;-)

Thanks for the link. I have another interesting one too I'll send you over when I find it.
My MPU has such bad acid damage that I believe it is beyond repairing, even with a kit. The damage is much worse than what you usually see on the pics of eaten up Bally MPU boards. So to be honest until I manage to find a genuine replacement that is undamaged and fit an external battery kit, I think I will go for the Alltek Ultimatte MPU, which will hold in the same connections and has 100 yrs memory high-score saving without any battery power.
I know the hard core restorators hate such cards, but on short term it's the only way for me to get the machine going again without too much hassle. Once it works, I'll look into the genuine cards again.

thank you.
I have 2 questions for you:
In my Baby  Pacman the pinball glass is missing. could you take dimensions of that please?
I have 2 flippers that don't match. could you take a picture of your flippers please?

anyway:
In a couple of days I could repair both MPU and VIDIOT. today I just changed some 2n5060 on controller board, some cleaning and a new battery; monitor works too, so the game is completely playable.

Now I'm waiting for this: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230646734586&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

and this http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230657230707&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

this has just arrived: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330594857547&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

My glass is missing too. I'm having a tempered glass cut at the moment with the following dimensions:
536mm wide, 412mm high, and a standard thickness, between 4 and 6mm. I'll tell you if it fits when I get it. But those were the dimensions I found.

You can get all the decals you ordered in Germany, for cheaper, as well as screensprinted dropdowntargets from www.bestofpinball.de  (you can see the replacement of those in my restoration posts).

Great news for your boards that they will be working again soon.

Here are the photos:

And if you follow this link you will see all my reference pictures that might help you (it is updated almost daily):

Great! Thank you.
I decided to preserve the original playfield, so it is not so brillant like yours :)
I can see bestofpinball.de sells target replacements, replacements are better than decals :D

You are right to keep the original playfield. The blue color on it is much nicer. I could not as the playfield literally cracked/burst open in several places as it must have been subject to rain or other humidity.  >:(

Question to you:
On your third jpeg I have problem telling something:
At the bottom of the playfield, there where the ball lands when you loose between the flippers, the metal "L" is covered by a piece of transparent plastic. One can see a little of it on your picture, and the rest is hidden by the control panel.
On your baby, is the plastic under the left and right black pac-man & ms pac-man plastics, or above?
On mine it was above, but it looks and feels strange to me, and most babies I found for documentation don't even have this plastic at all!
I would love to see close-ups when you get the time of how your left & right black plastics have been fitted, as I somehow have the feeling it was done wrong on mine after someone played around with it.
