looking for woodgrain
« on: October 24, 2013, 05:21:20 PM »
Hi,

I'm going to do a restore of my German Hyper Olympic cabinet (tx again King of Kong Bela). I consider to put new woodgrain on the cab, but I have no clue where to get this.

Can you guys help me out? Maybe the Dutch guys know an address in Holland or the name in Dutch (I guess it's just "fineer"?)

Cheers

Hey Anunaki,

I can't help you with that but you could consider wrapping the parts with woodgrain carwrapping. Not sure how that will look but it might but an "ok" back-up plan.

I don't have the answer to your question but apparently it's always a PITA to find a perfect matching woodgrain.
So a workaround would be to scan your actual woodgrain and have it printed on sheets of stickers.

Kudos to you for restoring woodgrain vinyl by the way, usually people hate it (I don't, 'cause it's original AND it's soooo 80's).  ;)

the thing is that some of it on the side is damaged and some of it is painted black

I like the idea of scanning it very much btw for the black parts and that is in fact the biggest thing to me

Simple, go to Gamma or Praxis, and look for a product that is called DC-FIX

They have all sorts of woodgrain and its easy stuff to work with

I used it on my pong mini build and i believe Scr33n used it on his track n field coctail after he asked me where i got the stuff from

minipong: https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3613.0 (page 10)

Scr33n's Track n field cocktail: https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3916.0 (page 3)

or just the site of the manufacturer: http://www.d-c-fix.com/tur/deko-folien.html#page=1&top=373&

i believe i have used a oak flavour

EDIT:
to be precise, this post says it all  ;)

By the way, John from Johns Arcade has ordered cheap vinyl from Hongkong.

He did specified the type in his Pac restore video :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-OZYpEdGe8&feature=player_detailpage#t=175

the search on Google "MW7552 vinyl" leads you to this ebay add:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wood-Grain-adhesives-Vinyl-Walnut-Wood-MW7552-Choose-Your-Size-/261285384043

its from this ebay user, so perhaps contact him for samples

i just went to the local DIY store because they carry the DC-fix stuff which is perfect IMHO

great info :spaceace:

I see on all pics of the TV Ideal cabs on the net that the inside is painted black, so I'll keep it like that.

I will put new woodgrain on the outside, to cover the holes

looking forward to this restauration already...... but first I need to finish my black, red and white generic (aka Crazy Kong boot) cab
