Last year I had a talk with Natale Zaccaria about their arcades and he told me that a lot of document have been lost during these years and moving from location to location. Some weeks ago I had another talk with Federico Croci (www.tilt.it) and he saved tons of documents copying a lot of articles from newspapers provided by Marino Zaccaria some years ago.
Then in the italian arcade forums something is moving and after years of MAME cabs a new arcade consciousness is coming :) and zac cabs are becoming quite popular.
in the end of the day I decided to collect some infos from ZAC collectors in order to create a sort of catalog with cabinet classifications in terms of shape, side art, hardware type and so on (suggestions are welcome).
If you think this job can be useful and interesting please feel free to share with me your info :D
then I'd like to propose the result to the zac brothers to have their "blessing" :O
Am I wasting my time or not?

Am I wasting my time or not?
Great idea! Also, this would look great next to my book on italian pinballs, made by Federico a few years ago ;)
-
I am not exactly a fan of Zaccaria cabs (though I don't hate them anymore like I used to ;D) but one of my focuses in this hobby is archiving and preserving, all the "archeological" stuff, so I'm totally for it.
Unfortunately I don't think I could contribute anything. :(
-
I have the (I think) only known copy of the sea scare flyer.
Just an A4 sheet really ;)
I submitted it to arcade flyer but they don't seem to care. :-\
-
I am in, and i think paul swan and belike can also provide lots of info !
-
I have a Quasar flyer I'd be happy to scan in ultra super duper res. Let me know by PM or Email if you want it over.
-
This kind of info should be collected. So much is lost. when I find something I scan it.
-
Thank you guys.
i agree, bela and paul are two milestons ;D
-
That's quite a task to compile all that information. There are probably three main sources of information:
1) The flyer archive.
2) The cabinets that have surfaced over the years.
3) Any documentation or information from the Zaccaria family & original workforce.
There are an awful lot of historical questions that remain unanswered and some day I hope the Zaccaria family or workers can answer them to complete their legacy before the information is lost.
If the Tilt dude has paperwork he should scan it and let us see it :)
Paul.
-
Hi Paul,
thank you for your reply...
I'm collecting pics and docs from everywhere :D and your website is fantastic
I'm working with Federico Croci (Tilt) in this direction and I hope to have the opportunity to scan all docs related to videogames. Actually he is a pinball collector and hasn't so much about video games...
DOCUMENTS:
I could find only the following documents:
Cat'n mouse - TECHNICAL MANUAL (I have the original)
Space Pirate - COCKTAIL TECHNICAL MANUAL
Quasar - US BILLIARD TECHNICAL MANUAL
I just found the QUASAR TECHNICAL MANUAL & SCHEMATICS for the italian market with very detailed elements about the cabinet. I'm scanning it.
Are there some other documents available?
-
SHAPES
I started trying to identify all cabinet shapes produced with a schematics about which game has been produced in what shape.
UR1 Up right type 1, the upright with "rounded" marquee
UR2 Up right with an unique panel with a single coin door
UR3 Up right similar to UR2 but the sides are rounded on the top-back
UR4 Up right similar to UR3 but with a double coin door: one to insert coins, one to collect them
UR5 Up right similar to UR4 but the second coin door takes all the bottom part or the cabinet
UR6 Up right with rectangular marquee
CP1 Cockpit (found some generic cockpits)
CA1 Cabaret
WC1 Wall cabinets. As described in some flyers but I couldn't find any picture
CT1 Cocktail tables
TP1 Late Tecnoplay generic cabinet
BI1 US Billiards up right
BI2 US Billiards cabaret
UN1 to UN6 unique dedicated cabs
I attached a PDF with all pictures I found used to identify these cab types.
Please tell me your opinion and if you know a cabinet version not included in that document please post a picture in order to update the doc.
-
Not sure if Crazy kong ever came in a cocktail, i think its converted.
look at the art of the CP, it looks like scramble or super cobra.
-
Ok
-
an update about documents and one request
DOCUMENTS:
I could find only the following documents:
Cat'n mouse - TECHNICAL MANUAL (I have the original)
Space Pirate - COCKTAIL TECHNICAL MANUAL
Quasar - US BILLIARD TECHNICAL MANUAL
on Etienne server:
Astro Wars - TECHNICAL MANUAL and SCHEMATICS
Money Money - TECHNICAL MANUAL
Tron - TECHNICAL MANUAL
en Speleo web site:
Zaccaria Universal Cab (economy) - TECHNICAL MANUAL
On my scanner:
Quasar - TECHNICAL MANUAL
Zaccaria Universal Cab (normal and economy)
REQUEST
Obviously I'm looking for all documents not included in the previous list.
I'd like to find one manual about a cabinet as I call: UR type 6 (type without rounded marquees)
Here a picture of UR6 cabs I found and a picture from an UR5 manual. I'd like to find the same picture of a UR6 cab
Thank you
PS please let me know if you use another terminology.
-
The Pac & Paint with Commidar marquee and control panel was my cabinet. I restored it back to a complete Pac & Paint, here's a better picture for you.
-
great! thank you.
I'll bore you with my requests when I'll start to work on arts :)
-
Crazy kong technical manual has that cabinet in it, unfortunately its faded, and could use some serious cleanup...
is also on my nas..
-
ops... I didn't find it
now I have it, thank you :D
-
there might be more on my laptop that is not on the nas, i lack the time to go through all my folders and organise everything in one place, but its on my to do list.. :D
-
There are quite a lot of manuals available in either paper or scanned, and also quite a lot of flyers. These are the manuals I have...
http://www.paulswan.me/arcade/manualsUS.htm (http://www.paulswan.me/arcade/manualsUS.htm)
...that's slightly out of date.
In your classification, the UR3 series were the MTC-900 ones and the UR2 series the KT-3's, I think. You'll probably want to call out the B&W vectors as a separate class of cabinet.
There two flavors of UR1 - the colour ones (Astro Wars/Galaxia) and the B&W ones (Dodgem, The Invaders). Further, there's The Invaders (dedicated) and then there are some one off B&W's (Circus, Off Limits) before that, even.
Best bet is to put what you have on a web page and we'll all chime on what should be where :)
Great effort!
Paul.
-
You should write a book about Zaccaria Marco ! You have contacts with the Zaccaria's and.......they are still alive now to tell all the stories :)
-
@Etienne
I've to ask you a big favor...
could you scan again the manual or at least that page modifying the color regulation?
probably you can improve the image quality. here an example.
than you !!!
-
@paul
DOCUMENTS
wow you have a very huge amount of interesting manuals!!
I write here what I miss. If you haven't time to scan them you can send me the paper and I can do it for you, at my expense of course...
Crazy Kong Technical Manual (Zaccaria) - COULD BE IN BETTER CONDITION THAN ETIENNE's
Quasar Technical Manual (Zaccaria) ONLY IF IT IS IN ENGLISH, I'M SCANNING A VERY COMPLETE ITALIAN VERSION
Jackrabbit Modification Kit for Money Money (Zaccaria)
The Invaders Instruction Manual (Model Racing/Zaccaria)
Technical Manual for Galaxia (Zaccaria)
Scramble Technical Manual (Zaccaria)
Instruction Manual for Astro Wars (Zaccaria) IS THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL DIFFERENT FROM THE TECHNICAL MANUAL WE HAVE?
Super Cobra Technical Manual (Zaccaria)
Frogger Technical Manual (Zaccaria)
Technical Manual for Laser Battle (Zaccaria)
CLASSIFICATION
in this first classification I'm trying to identify the external "shapes" only; that's the reason I'm looking for the original cabinets b/w draws (I think it's nice to use original document parts). Once we can assign a cab classification to each product, next step is on the control panel formats (Etienne already made a great job on that). After that: side arts and graphic sets and then we can "open" the cabinets.
WEB
yes it's a good idea to put everything on the web. Once I have enough stuff I'll open a dedicated page where you can add comments and open discussions...
thank you
-

actually we are not so friend, I met them only during some meetings and exhibitions. usually Natale is quite happy to talk about their history but often he says :"yes one day, now I'm very busy..."
I'll try the best...

I dont have the Original, i just downloaded this PDF after Laschek pointed me to it.
If i had the Original, and scanned it myself, it would have been alot higher quality as i do have some practice with that on sidearts and stuff ;)
However, i can try to manual trace it in illustrator and "restore" that document..
time time time is what i need ;D
-
we can look at the paul's one so you can save your time :)

I'll make a note to pull out all the manuals I have and update my page with what I have. These are the ones I have scanned so far:

I am in the search for a part of the serial code for a alusticker that i am making for some guy,
I have looked back in my previous runs and came up with this data:
116.xxx Phoenix (flying soucer artwork cabinet)
125.xxx Phoenix (Spacestation artwork cabinet)
127.xxx Vanguard
142.xxx Starsplash cabinet
133.xxx Comidar
132.xxx Crazy Kong
Now, i dont know if the first 3 digits are the gamecode, but i think it is.
Does anybody have more numbers ? (especially a scramble)
Thanks !
-
We should open a thread "Post your ZAC label here" with the game and cabinet related. Is there a better way to have a first census?
-
Good idea !
-
I fund THE INVADERS original schematics. Are there already available on the web?
-
oh, I forgot to post a new gadget here ;)
-
Those keys are cool !
I have one in my CK, althouh it has a different shape ???
Anyway, you should use some brass polish, look what it does to it ;D

Cool!!

I'm starting now compiling the production and I have some questions for the experts
1. Have you ever seen FIREBIRD? Is it a port of something else??
2. Any information about EGGOR? I found it on KLOV
3. same question for SEA BATTLE, do you think it is a port?
PS @Paul, you can update your website: ZACCARIA CIRCUS exists. There are at least 2. One is in a friend of mine collection, I had the other one but I trade it. The buyer is one of the worker that in those years made this cab; he is collecting all cabs he produced :D so it is in good hands...
Looking at you web page I can see sometimes you say "port of..." and some other times "licensed". is there a difference? Do you mean ported games are not licensed but bootlegs?
-
I notice this:
or:
in UR2 you extract "Laser Battle" and put int in UR3
or (IMO preferit shape division)
you Identify UR2 to UR5 by the shape...and not the marquee.
I'm wrong (and probably you are bored to listen to me) but the usual shape for that Zaccaaria UR are only 2 type:
1. QUASAR-SPACE PIRATE-SCRAMBLE (I think oldest one side art....coin box are inside the the coin door)
2. VANGUARD (I supposed newes shape)
2a. STARS SPLASH color BROWN (DARKNEST ONE...the coin box open like "garage door")
2b. STARS SPLASH color BRIGHT (azure and dark blue....the coin box open like a door...it have the black frame around)
VANGAUAR and STARS SPLASH have the same shape: curved rear top, all the rest straight rear top.
Identify the game by Marquee or control panel or bezel or a mix of this part it's very hard.
There are many unknown games, identify by Marquee only (Fantasy, Tactician, Locomotive ecc..)...ad also Mr. Do! I belive
There are same games with a FULL THEMA cab: Vangauard: The side art, the marqee, the CP, the bezel.
There are a lot of games identify by component: marqee, CP, bezel (Eyes).
...I repeat It's only my opinion..for a simple systematic way

Frame I already told you I don't want any contact with you. The world is very big, very big. please post your comments somewhere else
-
Frame I already told you I don't want any contact with you. The world is very big, very big. please post your comments somewhere else
It's only a advice about the cab.
Feel free to consider it....or not.
-
I'll start scanning in the remaining manuals that I have, but here's another that might not be in any better shape than the previous scans of this manual:
http:\\www.zzzaccaria.com\manuals\CrazyKongTechnicalManual.zip (http://http:\\www.zzzaccaria.com\manuals\CrazyKongTechnicalManual.zip)
Firebird there is a curved marque but I suspect that it's a distributor or third party bootleg Phoenix conversion kit.
Sea Battle exists as a flyer and I've not seen a reference to it being derived from something else. Folks have said it was produced and claim to have seen the cab originally. There is a possibility it may be of the same lineage as Scorpion.
Eggor I've never seen Zaccaria board or any Zaccaria parts for it. So far it appears to be unconfirmed.
Did you notice that a Zaccaria Kangaroo surfaced on Ebay over the last few days? Dedicated CP and marque.
In my list, "Licensed" means that the exact game was used. "Ported" means that the same game was reprogrammed onto different hardware (like Galaxia is from Galaxians and Astro Wars is from Astro Fighter).
It's great to here that a Zaccaria Circus has survived :)
In terms of known serial numbers, I've recorded the ones from the cabs I've restored so far:
Game Zaxxon
Manufacturer Zaccaria/NSM-Lowen

Heh, thanks. More serial numbers:
Money Money - V144246
A couple of original US export Quasar serial numbers (from Jeff Rothe).
117.518
117.603
Paul.
-
I think could be interesting to associate the cabinet type to the serial number. I don't know if serials depend on the game only or on the cabinet type too.
Here my conventions
-
Laser Battle manual...
http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/LaserBattleTechnicalManual.zip (http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/LaserBattleTechnicalManual.zip)
...likely more to follow next week.

More serial numbers, assume cabs are curvy marque style unless stated otherwise), in brackets after what was labelled:
AVG Pac'n'Paint converted to Jungle King (flat marque): V129763 (cab, monitor), V133494 (game PCB & mounting plate)
Quasar (Dambusters converted): V111214 (PSU, monitor)
Frogger (flat marque, dedicated): V126596 (cab, brick & PSU)
Pac'n'Paint: V128628 (brick, monitor)
Scramble (KT-3 style): V124637 (cab, unopened)
Eyes (flat marque): V137836 (cab, unopened)
Universal Star Track'n'Field (flat marque): V134362 (cab)
Quasar: V111580 (cab)
Laser Battle: V126788 (cab, brick & PSU, though PSU is labelled "Super Cobra")
Frogger: (curvy marque in Cobra style cab): V128812 (cab, unopened)
Vanguard (Scramble MTC-900 style): V125098 (everything)
Super Cobra (curvy cobra style): V125984 (cab) <- I should have said above that the 1st Cobra I listed is that oddball atypical conversion style one).
Puckman (dedicated): V112846 (monitor), V122898 (brick, PSU labelled "Puckman").
Phoenix: V116803 (cab)
I'm not sure the serial numbers say much, but they might if we get enough of them?
Paul.

wow, that's great!
these are my labels
V/115.120 QUasar cabinet UR2
V/138.116 Eyes cabinet UR5
V/128.787 Vanguard cabinet UR2
-
The distance in numbers suggests they turned out a lot of Quasar cabs but the really interesting one is that your Vanguard and my "Cobra" style Frogger rolled off the production line only 25 cabs apart :o Likely they were neighbors at the factory :)
More manuals - Sea Scare:

NSM Lowen Zaxxon (converted Tactician) manual:
http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/ZaxxonTacticianTechnicalManual.zip (http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/ZaxxonTacticianTechnicalManual.zip)
Paul.
Hi Paul,
did you put Tactician and Zaxxon in the same file for any reason? is tactician a converison kit for zaxxon or something?
-
The cab was originally a Tactician that it looks like NSM converted to Zaxxon (there are NSM flyers for both games). NSM removed the title cover from the original manual and added a sheet for additional Zaxxon information (the Konami adaptor wiring chart & DIP switches). Since the manual appears to be a Zaccaria manual for Tactician, mentioning the marque & control panel overlay parts for it, it would seem that Tactician is original Zac. So far, no evidence has been found to indicate if Zaxxon was ever native out of the Zaccaria factory versus NSM conversions of a batch of Tacticians. I'm not aware of a complete Tactician cab still existing.

Does anyone have the engineering blueprints for these Zaccaria cabinets?
I would like to build a Star Splash UR2 from scratch - Is that possible to do?
Do these cabinets ever come up for sale? I have never seen one which is why I want to build my own
Any info would be great, this is definately the place to ask.
-
In italy you can find zaccaria's cabs of course. I think abroad is more difficult but actually best zaccaria collectors are abroad :D
-
ah, I can say no one I know made any measurements; I think this is a job someone has to do one day...
-
@Paul, do you like this manual? I could find all parts.
http://www.vernimark.com/arcade/archive/monitor/mon_rc_kt3_serviceinformation.pdf
-
Looks good. You can drop the schematic for the remote control boards ;)
Paul.
-
hehe that's true
-
was going through my files for the new zaccaria forum, and found a picture of a full size frogger (UR3 formfactor) and the serial says "V/127.783"

There's also the deluxe cabaret version.

If it was of interest to someone, I would sell it on to you guys... only problem is that I'm in Scotland... good road trip?
-
very nice!
-
James from retrogamesparty has a Zacc Tron, the serial is V139.211
-
I have some questions for the zac experts.
Is it correct to say that ONLY these cabs had a dedicated cabinet (in term of shape of course)
• UN1: TV Jocker
• UN2: Off Limits
• UN3: Clowns
• UN4: The Invaders
• UN5: Sea Battle
• UN6: Tron
• UN7: Shooting Gallery
Is it true that there are the following relationships?
• UN1: TV Jocker -> original Hockey Ramtek
• UN2: Off Limits -> original ?
• UN3: Clowns -> original Circus Exidy
• UN4: The Invaders -> original Space Invaders Midway
• UN5: Sea Battle -> original ?
• UN6: Tron -> original Tron Midway
• UN7: Shooting Gallery -> original Shooting Gallery Seatongrove Ltd. (Vice Versa???)
-
Sea Battle I've only ever seen as a cockpit on the flyer. Is it different from the usual cockpit in terms of shape?
Off Limits -> Breakout variation (something similar to Pro Breakout).
Sea Battle -> Original AFAIK, possibly IGR.
Shooting Gallery -> I don't know of any none-Zac versions of this. P-Man thought this was done by Seaton for Zac exclusively.
The Invaders -> Original Space Invaders Taito :)
Paul.
-
Astro Wars-> Astro Fighter (Sega-Gremlin)?
-
And another queston...
which zac cabinet is identical to the original? Tron and the invadrrs ?
-
None are "identical" per se, but are equivalently styled is a better description.
Off Limits does like it might be equivalently styled to Breakout, also.
Paul.
-
Invaders is a lot smaller than a Taito SI.
-
Ok, I'm here now to ask you some pictures in decent resolution of any zac cab in good condition (aesthetically complete) taken with an angle of more or less 45 deg.
something line the attached picture (this is compressed in order to post it here, I prefer a gif or PNG or what you want).
If resolution is good I'd like to use them in the page dedicated to each title, if the resolution is not enough I need in any case some small pictures to identify the game/shape and put them in a list
thank you
-
I should take some pics, this is the only one i can find now
(http://www.opdenkelder.com/pics/crazykong/fase2/newcp/11.jpg)
-
45 degrees in order to see both the front and the side art and that's perfect :)
:spaceace:
ah, and the entire cab, possibly :O
-
I have to roll a lot of cabs, but I will give it a try on easter;)
Do you like them fired up?
-
Here's one. I should have some suitable Astro Wars pictures as well.
-
thank you. everything is well accepted.
for hi res pics you can send to vernimark at vernimark dot com
-
Now I'm trying to complete the UR1 games list.
I could find (most on paul web site) some pics but most urgent are:
Firebird
Super Galaxian
less urgent Galaxia (I found a very low resolution photo)
my purpose is to use them in my document so if I want a decent print at 300dpi I have to work on big file
-
What beauties :-*
I'm afraid I can't contribute much here. We have a Scramble, Crazy Kong....let me know if you need pictures of those :)
-
I need pictures of all cabinets... I think I've to organize a trip to Bela and dedicate one day to make good pics
-
Oh, you are helping me to do that:
www.vernimark.com/temp/TAIZC_draft_chapter2.pdf
this is a draft but just to have an idea about what I'm working on
I'm sorry for the mistakes and I think you will find funny translations for parts and components but sometimes I dunno how translate some words. I'll make a review with some english guys once the 1st complete draft is done.
-
Holy shit...this is amazing work, my friend!! :o :spaceace:
91 pages....what else is hidden inside this document?
-
do you want another example???
-
www.vernimark.com/temp/TAIZC_draft_chapter8.pdf
Finally I'll have more or less 150 pages, but I really need your help
-
if you want to upload some photos, this link should work
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7cwW1Pvd8oLNndhTUF0SXJBNVU&usp=sharing
-
Oh wow, I just looked at the examples, great work!
-
Vernimark this is great stuff - are you going to print with this? I hope so. If you do a kickstarter I'll back it.
I have to ask, will there be an English translation? :spaceace:
-
It's already in Italian + English
-
yep I decided to write it in 2 languages because, after all, Zaccaria is Italian :)
I'll print it for sure, few copies for me and for forum people want it. :D
-
Great work! Don't forget Sea Scare in the UR1 list. Other games have been seen in this cab style but it's unknown if they are distributor conversions or factory. IIRC I've seen Phoenix that looks like it had a real Zac marque and a real Zac control panel in the UR1 style (art same as Astro Wars otherwise IIRC).
Paul.

- signed by the author
- handed to me by the author
- with a kiss from the author's GF ;);););););););)

Great work Marco !
I love it !

yes I foegot sea scare!
Tendentially I would like to consider phoenix a conversion kit...
thank you but don t think to save yourself with this fast info, i ll bore you several times haha

The last one or you have any other preference?
Anyway i dunno how many time i need so it s on your risk
-
LOL !!! Marco, you rock ! :spaceace:
I think any GF you have is good enough for a kiss for me ;););););););)
But I have a feeling you have hit the jackpot (to keep to your work's theme) this time my good friend !!!
-
...and I included Space Invaders into UR1 list because it has a dedicated side art. I thnk if we include all conversion kit probably we have to cover all 1980 to 1983 productions :)

Hello Marco!!!
I see you're in a good place, beautiful work!!!
In this period are taken with modeling character for some video games, I hope to finish the panel to Astrowars
-
Hehe, yes, there are a bunch of conversions out there making it a bit hard to determine which may have been factory and which were third party. The Firebird marque is 3rd party I think as it's cut & print is not consistent with the Zaccaria factory marques.
Phoenix is an odd one - there is this cab with a Zaccaria art marque:
...but the real piece of interest is this control panel that turned up with a Leisure Games moniker:
(http://www.zzzaccaria.com/photos_www/2013/AW_ZacCPsAndInsideTheInvaders/PV/2013-04-16 11.50.59.jpg)
http://www.zzzaccaria.com/photos_www/2013/AW_ZacCPsAndInsideTheInvaders/2013-04-16 11.50.59.jpg (http://www.zzzaccaria.com/photos_www/2013/AW_ZacCPsAndInsideTheInvaders/2013-04-16 11.50.59.jpg)
The Invaders was likely a factory conversion kit - all of the artwork is applique over the Dodgem artwork - yes, the side art is one huge sticker I'm told. I've seen at least two of them that are consistent.
Paul.

PLIZ make that panel ASAP :P :P Do you need other pics?
-
Vernimark this is great stuff - are you going to print with this? I hope so. If you do a kickstarter I'll back it.
I second that!
A printed version would be the ideal addition to my copy of Federico Croci's "Tilt" book on italian pinballs! :spaceace:
-
Federico is preparing something similar about italian games using his huge flyers collection
-
Looking through the Web I couldn't find any SUPER COBRA photo with dedicated graphics. Is it a scramble conversion with dedicated marquee only?
-
New question:
On your opinion, is Firebird a conversion kit from Sea Scare?
-
Not a kit, just likely a bootleg board & marque for this series of Zac. cabs.
Paul.
-
so do you mean it is not a zac production??
-
Great stuff, must have been a lot of work. :spaceace:
I have a very nice Super Galaxian in my anteroom separately, try to find some time in the weekend to take some pics from most of my cabs also. ;)
-
Just finished the restoration of the Super Galaxian, spent a whole day to remove the joystick from the hacked cpo. :D
If you still need pics, I can send it to you tomorrow. ;)

Great!
... a few years ago, in south of Italy (probably Calabria), a Scorpion was found...but after this discoverage no news about..
-
Is there someone can send me some SCORPION good pictures?
Who owns this game?
Will be there soon. ;)
-
@Bela, I'm really thinking to come there and stay one day to take pics of your treasures :D
-
here again to make questions
I'm writing the list of the UR6 cabinets
Cat ‘n Mouse
Comidar
Crazy Kong
Eyes
Fitter
Frogger
Hustler
Pac and Paint
Zaxxon
I know some of them are kits.
Etienne already made some pics but his CK has a different side art respect the purposes I have now, so if you have pics of your UR6 cabs please send me (always at 45°, front and one side)
thank you!!!
-
@Bela, I'm really thinking to come there and stay one day to take pics of your treasures :D
You are welcome anytime, anyway I will take a pic from all next week I promise, I had to take care of my brother's kids in the past few days, didn't have too much time for myself and the "hobby". ;)
-
I know luigi has the original cabinet for crazy kong, my scans i used to recreate the sidearts where taken from his cabinet ;)
-
take you time I don't want to bore you I just post questions... ;D
-
I will be happy to provide at least some pics of my Crazy Kong!! :)
Unfortunateley the t-molding has been painted black  and didn't have the time to remove the paint yet.
Does this matter for your purpose?
-
Yes of course.
thank you
-
hm...I'm not sure wether my english is so bad or if you misunderstood what I wanted to say ;)
Is it a problem that the t-molding is still painted black?
-
Cat ‘n Mouse
Comidar
Crazy Kong
Eyes
Fitter
Frogger
Hustler
Pac and Paint
Zaxxon
I know some of them are kits.
don't forget Kangaroo;-)
-
yep but I'm not so confident to find a complete kangaroo cabinet...
-
hm...I'm not sure wether my english is so bad or if you misunderstood what I wanted to say ;)
Is it a problem that the t-molding is still painted black?
Just photoshop it a bit ;)
-
hm...I'm not sure wether my english is so bad or if you misunderstood what I wanted to say ;)
Is it a problem that the t-molding is still painted black?
yes I understood, sorry for the short answer. Actually I was thinking the same as Etienne, in this case PS can help :)
-
OK, I'll try to take some useful photos then you guys can decide to modify or not :)
-
yep but I'm not so confident to find a complete kangaroo cabinet...
Its only the marquee and the CP, no dedicated bezel.
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=6005.0 (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=6005.0)
-
When i find time (not so easy this year), mz zaxxon will be ready.
Just need to restore the CP with the plexi provided by Anunaki.
-
Hi Digimon, I didn't remember you had it.
so if you have time please take a picture of the entire cabinet at 45 degrees without reflexes (possibly). Something like this
thank you thank you thank you :P
-
Are you planning on making it in real bookform ? i would buy a copy ! 8)
-
Of course.
not a so big format because of the printing costs
-
To my mind you can add an extra chapter for the CPs.
P.e. Hyper Olympics is just a CP swap, no dedicatedt marquee or bezel.
-
Thanks to Bela now I have new fantastic Scorpion pictures :)
If you all have Zaccaria's CPO, please SCAN them; in fact some of them are unusual and I'd like to have a sort of repository of known graphics
-
Are you planning on making it in real bookform ? i would buy a copy ! 8)
me too! ...blood signed by the author
BS

How I'm wasting my time in this project.

Did you notice that the yoke handle grips on yours are different to the ones on mine? Mine has what looks like twin "Tron" style grips:
Paul.
-
Yrs, intetesting. I was wondering if it was zaccaria or come from another game
-
On the yoke I pulled from the graveyard in Worms there is ZACCARIA imprinted
Maybe there's such on those handles, too.
-
Interesting...
-
So luigi you have the parts of my br..
i still have to understand what happened
-
ok, let's go ahead.
I attached a picture from Paul's web site.
I'm wondering if it is an official conversion or not. What do you think?
Is there someone has this cab? Is it possible to have more (and better) pics?
-
another question...
has this cabaret been produced in Italy? Europe? US?
-
I owned that cabinet, I took lots of pictures which I finally found! It's made in Italy.

-
Wow guys, thank you thank you thank you.
I love that cabaret!
Is there any possibility to scan the phoenix cpo?
-
That cabinet belonged to someone else I was just able to get a decent photo before they sold it, so I can't scan the cpo sorry :(
-
ok, thank you anyway for the pic.
if you have any hi res pic please upload here
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7cwW1Pvd8oLNndhTUF0SXJBNVU
muddymusic including yours please, if you can if you want
;D ;D thank you
-
I've found all my Zaccaria pictures so I'll upload them all soon.
I have high res pics of the Cabaret, Moon Crest and Pac & Paint to add.
-
:spaceace:
-
Uploaded all pics now in folders Moon Crest, Zac Mini/Cabaret, Pac and Paint.
-
thank you my friend :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
is there something else to say about cockpits?
-
AFAIK there was the Buck Rogers semi-dedicated and then the Universal version only. Everything else in the cab that's not Buck Rogers is an op application of the Universal or BR conversion. Are there pictures that support Outrun as being a semi-dedicated or factory application and not a Universal?
I suspect the Universal came after BR since the cab has woodwork changes to fit more inline with the other Universal cabinets. Maybe BR was 1982 and Universal 1983?
Don't forget Sea Battle - it's on the flyer as a cockpit, dedicated. Some claim to have seen it back in the day so it's believed to have been made but parts have never been found :(
Paul.
-
Hi Paul,
I could see a couple of cockpits with outrun inside but actually nothing dedicated. So I suppose your suspects are true.
Sea Battle is in another section because of its dedicated shape.
-
COCKTAIL TABLE.
- I have a space pirate
- There is the space fortress manual on the web
- any other title produced for cocktail tables? any picture?
-
I have seen pics of coctail CPO art in style of Scramble / Supercobra, i just cannot find it now, but that indicates that that was available in cocktail format to me.
-

Yeah, they made Scramble cocktail versions, some pop up time to time on ebay.
-
There are also some Quasar dedicated cocktails:
A friend of mine has a Phoenix cocktail also, but I'm not sure if it is not a conversion.
-
This quasar has the same cp of my space pirate. Probably the same cab with different instruction flyer
-
looking at the web I can see Space Fortress has a manual for the upright version only. So I assume released cocktail tables are:
- Astro Wars
- Quasar
- Scramble
- Space Pirate
- Supercobra? Exists?
I dunno the fifth pic what is
anyone can confirm?
-
the last one does not look like a zacc.
look at the feet, that lookst like some generic cocktail to me
-
yes that's true. I didn't pay so attention to the legs.
-
PIC1 SCORPION as you can see it on the flyer
PIC2 SCORPION by Bela
PIC3 SCORPION sold in Italy last week
other pics on Paul's web site
PIC1 is a UR3, PIC2 and PIC3 are UR5
I'm wondering if SCORPION can be found in UR5 cabs only and the flyer is no correct.
About arts, seems that can be found both with "stars" and "alien city"
-
My Scorpion was a Super Cobra earlier, you can see the story here:
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3966.0
And the marquee, cp was imported from this cab:
Looks like the one in Italy.
-
Zaccaria/SeeVend Hustler, same sort of cab as NSM/Lowen Zaxxon but with the side-art matching "Vanguard" glass (yes, that artwork makes no sense for a pool game). Dedicated marque & control panel overlay (artwork scans in the pipeline). None-Zaccaria coin door. The internals of the cab were made for this game - the Zaccaria power brick and fuse label say "HUSTLER" and the control panel wiring is only pinned for left/right/shoot.
http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/HustlerTechnicalManual.zip (http://www.zzzaccaria.com/manuals/HustlerTechnicalManual.zip)
Paul.
-
This is the best I could do with OFF LIMITS schematics
www.vernimark.com/temp/offlimits.zip
can someone creates a PDF or something smaller??
thanks
-
ZELCO games VS ZAELCO games
as you know some Zac boards have been made by ZELCO GAMES (early production) and others by ZAELCO GAMES.
I had the opportunity to ask the reason to Natale Zaccaria during the ICE exhibition in london last week.
"Oh I remember very well the reason! We didn't know a company named ZELCO already existed in Milano concerning electronic production, so they asked us to chenge our name company..."
-
Cool, I love these kind of small details. :D
Thanks for sharing. :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Nice snippet of background :)
-
I've got UR6 Scorpion stuff yersterday:
and NOS UR6 Pac&Paint
(http://www.proe-wildfire.de/Zac/zaccs/small/WP_20160212_006.jpg)
and nice Comidar Marquee
(http://www.proe-wildfire.de/Zac/zaccs/small/WP_20160212_004.jpg)
If someone is in the need I can get some more of Comidar and Pac&Paint, and Crazy Kong cpo & marquee
-
Actually i dunno what has been scanned yet. Could you make a 300 dpi scan of your stuff please?
-
Actually i dunno what has been scanned yet. Could you make a 300 dpi scan of your stuff please?
I will Scan it when my daylight scanner is back!
-
Nice catch, poor Scorpion marquee saw better days. :o
-
Yeah, I rarely see severe flaking on Zaccaria artwork :(
Paul.
-
That Scorpion control panel looks like it came from the Universal design studios, pretty cool artwork! :)
-
I'm sorry to bore you all but your opinions are very important for me.
I'm not convinced about the PHOENIX version UR1.
I could find these versions, both are in Paul's archive but I dunno if the marquees are both made by Zaccaria or not. Is there someone has these cabs? Any indication of originality?
Seems to be clear that a dedicated UR1 doesn't exist but the Astro Wars conversion seems to be well done.
-
I have the control panel for the one on the right. It has a Leisure Games round label the same as Astro Wars so it was either a conversion kit or a factory run using Astro Wars cabs (or both).

Paul.
-
ok, great!
what about the marquee on the left? It looks like the UR2 Phoenix marquee; it is a good candidate to be part of a kit too, or not?
-
I don't know about the one on the left, I don't have one myself to inspect if it's factory or bootleg.
-
Is there anyone has this complete PHOENIX version?
Could be the case to build a ZAC OWNERS DATABASE?
-
Have someone the game titled Hustler? Is it possible to have a picture of the game and possibly of the pcb?
-
Sure...
http://www.zzzaccaria.com/HustlerRestoration.htm (http://www.zzzaccaria.com/HustlerRestoration.htm)
-
thank you :)
I asked because I found this hustler PCB and I'm wondering if it is the same board used in the zac cab but it seems not to be so.
-
Heh, no different game from a different era :)
-
:P
-
Ok guys, do you have a good picture of FITTER and COMIDAR?
I need something like the attached pic;
don't worry if there is something in the background
more or less I could find all pics I needed, probably another problem will be to understand how many products have been made in cocktail version...
-
AND a good picture of EYES in UR6 cabinet too :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
pliz pliz pliz
-
an add to page 12 related to the cocktails:
I could find a phoenix too, so the list seems to be:
Astro Wars
Phoenix
Quasar
Scramble
Space Pirate

Another zac question.
Do you have cat'n mouse pcb schematics or board layout?
Thank you
-
I only have this documentation:

in addition to that here some more info:

Thank you, but I would like to find something at least with chip location. If I had time I should draw it on my own...
-
I have a sound pcb only :-\

Actually I have a complete boardset. I was asking for unknown documents to include into my doc.
Thanks anyway :-)
-
Ah, ok, silly me  ;D
-
Here I want to list the games WITHOUT a known (by me) Manual.
If you have one or more manuals of the list please contact me or just upload it.
I'd like to have a good scan, in case you are bored I can buy the original or pay your time for scanning it. In any case all documents will be part of the community :)
Any kind of document is appreciated: flyer, instruction manual, SCHEMATICS(!!), user manual, part of a manual with missing pages...
and pictures, pictures, pictures    I'm available to make a trip come to you with my camera and all tools needed for printable pics, just let me know if your are available to help me.
Games without a known document:
TV JOKER, CIRCUS, DODGEM, VANGUARD, EYES, MR. DO!, SEA BATTLE, SCORPION, SHOOTING GALLERY, FIREBIRD, PUCK MAN, BUCK ROGERS, PAC AND PAINT, FITTER, COMIDAR, JACK RABBIT
I found last month the manual of ASTRO FANTASIA, a CASSETTE game distributed by ZACCARIA. SCAN is available if you want it
This is an open link to upload whatever you want (zac related) and where tou can find the astro fantasia pdf.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7cwW1Pvd8oLNndhTUF0SXJBNVU
just for you in that folder you can find a draft of chapter 2 (not completed yet)
Any kind of suggestion or correction is appreciated. As you can see most o the text is still in italian only and a lot of pics are missing or, in most cases, have not a so good quality. I hope the meaning of I want to do is clear. watermark just to remind it is not a final version :D
thank you
PS: this job is impossible without your help.
if I knew i needed years to do this job..... :pac:
-
Just scaned through the chapter 2. Most impressive
-
maybe the worng thread but it seems like a Zaccaria both at some convention back in the days... on the cover of a Play Meter magazine

This seems to be a good place to post this...
Howdy guys, an Undumped wiki editor from Emulab.it (and MAMEdev) poking my head in here.
As usual, I'm trying to ensure that the software for these PCBs match MAME's archives. (Yes, we care about preserving bootleg / licensed ROMs with copyright changes, etc. these days! Yes, we know that's a bit of a change from the old days!)
Zaccaria's a real mess given the number of third parties making conversion kits for their cabinets, Zaccaria making cabinets for other distributors, the number of licenses (and possible bootlegs) they were making, and so on.
Here's where we stand thus far (mostly thanks to Deb of Tilt.it's help on this):
Undumped (?): https://mamedev.emulab.it/undumped/index.php?title=Category:Zaccaria
Dumped: http://www.progettoemma.net/indice.php?fast=&ricerca=&textype=any&romset=&manufacturer=Zaccaria&year=
I'd like to verify that the software for these PCBs on the wiki (when it exists) already matches a set documented in MAME by another publisher, to ensure that it's been preserved.
If they don't (even due to a subtle copyright screen change to insert the "Copyright Zaccaria" text, but mostly ignoring different ROM size "splits"), then you should probably get in touch.
I'm currently trying to avoid getting into the "Other Zaccaria Products" list Deb has made, until I have a clearer picture on who was making them and who was distributing them, what counts as Zaccaria products and what doesn't: http://www.tilt.it/deb/zaccaria-en.html#altro
Appreciate everything you guys have been doing collecting information, and I look forward to getting a copy of vernimark's book :)
Greetz to (at least) Paul and Vernimark. :)

Nice to hear, that you want to save all Zaccaria related datas. :spaceace:
I have some of your undumped pcbs, my programmer can't read the 2706 eproms though, I will check if I can help.
At the moment, I have 3 Zaccaria Dribbling pcbs, a pcb that looks like a Zaccaria made Vanguard, a Space Pirate, a Phoenix with the original Zaccaria bootleg pcb and a Pacman/Puckman/Hangly Man, that also made by Zaccaria.

Hi Bela,
I made an adapter for DRIBBLING using +5, -5, +12 only without making any modification to the board. THis evening I'll post the pinout.
I repaired most of my boards (3 model racing and 1 olympia) and all boards worked properly. Be sure the ZAC pinout is the same of MR/OLYMPIA version
-
Sounds great, thank you. :spaceace:
-
Sorry i couldn t trace down the adapter pinout i ll do that on monday
Anyway just for general info one gui in south italy is selling this converted zac dribbling
-
Wow, never seen like this before :o
That pcb is from a gambling machine, looks like it was converted to one of those.
-
Another pic
-
Really interesting, the Model Racing type has a very different controll.
The pinout of the MR one is here:
http://klov.net/manuals-videogames/D/Dribbling.pdf
-
These three cocktails have been comverted into jamma cab. The last one is a model racing. All of them have a new control panel
Unfortunately original comtrols have been removed
-
Andreas has a Dribbling and afair it has handles that can be twisted. Cool game :)
-
Another pic
Do you have more info about these?
Location, price, etc..
Thanks. ;)
-
Hi Bela,
I needed a bit of time to collect some infos.
location: south Italy, very south.
price: 150 euros as is (converted, not working, without the original controls)
I'm trying to have more pics, in the meantime think what I can do to have one of your zac dribbling boards ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks Marco! ;)
The pcbs are not mine, but the owner wont keep all 3, he will sell at least 2.
I would like to test them first with a jamma adapter, but still dont know, what should I hook up to "-ponte" and "+ponte".
Do you have any idea?
Manual here:

sorry I had to tell you how to connect them....
now I'm not having access too to the place wher I plugged the board. I promise you to do it asap :pac:

I know, I've never seen that topper in the wild but I bet it's cool :)
Paul.
-
Marco should ask the Zaccaria guys, I'm really curious. :D
-
ahahah, I'll do
-
Hi guys,
maybe it‘s time for a little update here?
I think we should/could add a lot of infos/scans/art…
what do you think?
Cu all
-
During pandemic I had time to write some more parts.
Chapter dedicated to cabinet shapes is changed, new cabinets and pics found, and types (ur1, ur2. ...) have been sorted by date.
Probably the work will be split into 2 parts because 500 pages are too much 😂
I will post soon my repository with all pdf manuals. I found a lot of new docs.

Here's a picture of the sideart of a bit dirty and dingy Zaccaria Comidar cabinet found in Hungary by my pal Zsolt (a fellow collector).
Correction:
Paul Swan has just said it's a converted Fitter.
And observing the theme of the games it's obvious he's right.
It must have (also) been an Amidar sometime for sure. No specific Zacc sideart exists for Comidar, I guess.
-
It looks like the creator of this sideart is the same like on the crazy kong.
-
yes, he could be Rimondini

Comidar uses Spacetation art, mine is a comidar ;-)
